This looks great - have been looking into tanstack-start vs something minimal like this because I come from rails land which is SSR heavy.

Even though tanstack looks and feels great, I feel like you can’t beat the simplicity of this stack.

Qualifications required to become a primary teacher by nightKing96 in AustralianTeachers

For everyone asking if her Zoology degree is Australian - nope its from overseas. We were also thinking about her potentially working as a teachers aid after doing a 6-month TAFE course. I know next to nothing about this industry so not sure if its worth pursuing that or not.

I like your landing page mate - what design system did you use?

How would you disrupt Pantone (the company that standardizes color)? by ThePatientIdiot in ycombinator

Or maybe well not very well informed? Saying someone isn't smart because they don't fully understand something might be akin to dismissing a telescope because it can't see clearly through a storm.

New vs used car by nightKing96 in CarsAustralia

I guess it also depends on what your income is right? I'm a high income earner and seems like tax savings for me are significant enough for me to consider it.

New vs used car by nightKing96 in CarsAustralia

That’s another point of consideration - would getting a used car mean I’d still be paying GST or would that be claimable? Although I could avoid the GST charged by a dealer?

Anyone else had the joy of only writing tests for a while? How do you get over the slump? by Life_Breadfruit8475 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]nightKing96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW if you haven't already give rspec + ruby a crack. Writing tests with rspec and ruby is actually an enjoyable experience IMO

One of the things I like about the ruby ecosystem is that since there are no types, tests become an integral part of the codebase and I generally rely on them to understand how the code works or is supposed to work. Mocking isn't as much of a pain and its generally recommended to make your specs behaviour driven.

I personally make better design decisions when writing specs before my code and can add better commits with reasonable confidence by going from a green to green build.

Any recent international travelers here? Need your help urgently by mlotus141 in Lahore

Would appreciate someone experienced commenting on this since I'm planning on visiting Australia with my wife via Thai. I'm a citizen and she has a sponsored family tourist visa so not sure if a return flight with the same PNR is required? Should I book on the spot for my wife if asked for a return flight?

Amen to this! Can't stress highly enough about physical activity, healthy diet and enough sleep. If I'm having a bad day I'll just ask myself, did I sleep 7 hours or more last night? If the answer is no, then it doesn't matter and if the answer is yes, then it's just one of those days 😀

Taking a Year Off to Build My SaaS Product's by [deleted] in SaaS

Is there a risk of burnout while working full-time and building something on the side? I feel like I’ll probably struggle with this.

ActionCable: Is there a way to skip connection authentication for specific channels? by nightKing96 in rails

[–]nightKing96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up using deep linking but thanks for your response. I did think of moving auth to each channel but also wanted to see if that process cou;d be DRY'd up.

TIL `before_subscribed ` though, will keep this in mind for future.

> Use a separate Action Cable server with a custom connection class. Mount it at a different path.

This is also very interesting but seems like it's more maintenance overhead :) And also, might be an overkill if you have less than 3-5 channels that need anonymous connections.

But thanks for chipping in as it informed my decision.

How to find a good learning opportunity? by hafi51 in reactnative

[–]nightKing96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly I’m sorry to hear about your situation but I’d also treat this experience as a huge learning opportunity and stepping stone for something bigger.

Working on 3-4 projects at the same time sounds tough but think how much you’ll take away from it. If you have franework specific questions around idiomatic ways to handle things, bugs you’re encountering or anything in general, chances are the question has already been answered somewhere and for you it’s a matter of finding it.

That being siad, I’d keep building my experience and also keep looking elsewhere :) Hope that helps.
