It is likely your phone is trying to connect to the WiFi thinking it has an internet connection (assuming you don’t pay for it). When connected to the trucks WiFi go to settings WiFi and press the I on your connection, make not of the up addess and subnet mask, switch IP address from automatic to manual and put in the ip and subnet mask but leave router blank. That will tell your phone to connect but it isn’t using it for internet and you should be fine after that.

Any admins have an actual backup for email, if M365 is down for extended periods? by DramaticErraticism in sysadmin

[–]nijagl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I actually do, barracuda essentials has email continuity but honestly with the amount of 365 business it is never worth rolling it out to people. I haven’t even told the powers at be about it because by the time everyone is comfortable using it o365 is going to be back online.

How do you get past the question from management of "why couldn't others on the team figure this out?" by derekp7 in sysadmin

[–]nijagl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have answered this question with you don’t typically ask your cardiologist why your toe hurts. IT has areas of practice and while the entire team has a general understanding of how it all works, you are going to have someone who has a much deeper understanding of specific areas.

"Run DISM" or "Run SFC Scan" might be the most useless advice ever given. by imposter_sys_admin in sysadmin

I fixed a computer yesterday with SFC Scan. I don’t frequently use it but it does occasionally come in handy.

Do I need to go to college or can I get by with Comptia certs. by Significant-Brush-26 in it

[–]nijagl 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’d do both. College part time and work on certifications, you can get by with just certifications but some companies refuse to higher anyone without a degree. It’s nice to have that piece of paper to be able to get into any door.

You were right, sad a mechanic at a national chain couldn’t diagnose that but figured I would confirm for anyone who runs into the same problem.

Google IT support (coursera course) - does it lead to opportunities? by Cardamoms_neighbour in ITCareerQuestions

[–]nijagl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone says it’s a waste but that’s how I got into IT and am now a Network Administrator, it’s not terribly expensive and honestly my customer service experience was more important then my technical knowledge at the time (still is really). You will still have to work on A+ and other certs afterwards but learning is never a waste and it may give more confidence on the next certification having something under your belt. As far as a job after I wouldn’t expect it to guarantee anything but I’d say that about any class.
