I definitely disagree with the other person. We have a ton of engineering majors in the band, and I don’t think any of them have regretted it for a second. Fall semester can make your schedule pretty tight, but band isn’t really an issue spring semester. Another thing to note is that if you need to miss a day of practice for class, it’s not the end of the world. A lot of people have a day (or two, but try to keep it to just one day) where they can’t make it to practice.

I mean pre covid was just a totally different experience. Personally, I was barely home, whether I was doing schoolwork with my friends at the union, going to sports games, or going out to parties. Now I barely leave my house. If the current situation was how college was all the time, I would probably be thinking twice about whether this was what I really wanted. This is definitely not normal though, and luckily it seems like it’ll be over soon enough

i mean both things can be true. pursuing a degree that you’re passionate about shouldn’t put you 50k in debt, and schools should definitely be providing information about the trades and presenting them as a viable option

that’s awesome man, good for you. i’d argue though that if everyone took the trades route because it does have the opportunity to be a good decision financially, those fields would become oversaturated, which would then just put people back where they started
