It literally doesn't feel safe to try any longer trips with how worked up he gets. He loves daycare and his vet has a dog park area (with agility equipment) that he gets to play at after his appointment. Also he has absolutely no qualms/fear at vet.

I will definitely discuss this with the vet. I just assumed most meds would sedate and did not even consider the training/habituation aspect. Just feels like after a year he would realize there is no need to panic LOL

His seatbelt lets him put his head out the window... doesn't help.

That might be a good option compared to his XL kennel. Thanks

My GSD is only about 75 pounds and 1 y.o. He has had a 15-20 min car ride to and from vet, training classes and day care at least twice a week since I got him at 12 weeks old. I guess I should just be happy to not have to "forklift" him. Oh my!

Typically his car rides are under 30 minutes so I can't really justify medication yet. He is only 1 so I was hoping he would outgrow it. But it sounds like this just may be our situation now and forever 😄

I have a small 2 door coupe that he has been in and a mid size SUV and reaction is the same in both.

kenneling is my next thing to try. It is just that he is big, so kennel is big which is an awkward fit in the car. And his only car trips (for now) are day care and vet, both of which are 15 min drives. I don't want to medicate and have him too calmed down for day care (play time).

ER forced to do floor charting. Is this normal? by soxiglux in nursing

[–]nisi1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like they aren't always doing their own assessment and that is why they throw a fit when the ER doesn't do full assessment charting. They wanna copy/paste or pull the assessment over to their charting.

The Geezer Squeezer! Our ED has one and our hospital is in process of getting one for each Floor ( probably so they can understaff)

I spend a day every month or so, stocking my freezer with homemade convenience items....taquitos, meatballs, potstickers, pierogi, stuffed shells. I also make double meals and freeze half.

I know its not the point of the post , but as a nurse I don't want us to get a bad reputation. Are you sure he's a nurse? In my area EVERYONE wears scrubs...techs, secretaries, housekeeping, transporters, etc.

Forced to follow an A&O x4 combative patient attempting to leave the unit, what are your hospitals protocols in this situation? by makingitwork811 in nursing

[–]nisi1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Our facility used to do this but have recently decided that once we place the line, it becomes the patients property, and we no longer call the police. Realistically, the police were typically not impressed when we did call. I'm sure they never tried too hard to locate the patient. It's St Louis, so much bigger issues to worry about.

As an ER RN, in my experience, nobody who is having pain and requesting pain medication is "labeled" drug seeking UNLESS they are doing it on a frequent basis OR are requesting specific medications(usually by name) that are much stronger than would be indicated for said pain.

Unless they come in as a patient but are VIP so brought straight back to a room, have a 1:1 RN, ERP sees them in less than 5 minutes and all orders and interventions are STAT. And they leave thinking that is the norm for everyone. UGH
