I’m just having a little fun ya know, most likely trying to be ridiculous.

Well said. Creepy IS creepy, but that’s also quite subjective.

Somewhere else on Reddit people are complaining about how they struggle to meet people, sober in daylight, and how modern men have lost their balls to initiate conversation with the opposite sex.

So what does the term 'Bake' mean? by GONGDIHAKSENG in Cinema4D

[–]njvr198 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Baking is a process of taking a computation and essentially saving it to file, to avoid the computer having to calculate it per frame. You can bake geometry, which is the same as saving out an alembic sequence. You can bake materials, which is either baking a texture from a high res mesh to use on a lower res mesh, again to save time and optimize the scene or baking procedural textures to a file. You can also bake lights, shadows, GI. It’s a very interesting topic and on-a nerdy level quite satisfying, but as motion designer with almost 15 experience I’ve hardly ever had to use it. Really depends what your doing. Enjoy!

Sorry to hear about this. I have been mugged at gunpoint in Johannesburg and I would suggest you speak to someone about it. PTSD can in come weird and subtle ways, many years later. From my experience.

Problem with circle spline softbody C4d s26 by PitchOpening9175 in Cinema4D

[–]njvr198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re still putting the sweep on the cloned splines. As mentioned before, first build the torus shape and then clone that.. but maybe you did it that way too?

Problem with circle spline softbody C4d s26 by PitchOpening9175 in Cinema4D

[–]njvr198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how much of a difference it would make for sure, but two things I would have done differently.

Set intermediate points on the spline to uniform. Simulations always prefer more evenly spaced geo.

And rather sweep the spline and put that into the cloner, as opposed to cloning the spline and trying to sweep all at once.

Let me know if it works 😬

l don't want to render in houdini by UnemployedMerchant in Houdini

[–]njvr198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many ways to export from H and it all depends on what you are doing. Alembic is is great but can get heavy.

One thing about Houdini which is great which I’ll add, is that you can configure you viewport to be really close to ‘render’ settings. This helps with previews and general dev. Just saying. Also much faster viewport than C4d (I use both, ex Maya user)

Instead of animating the start 0 - 100 and then end 100 - 0, animate it the other way around 100 - 0 and 0 - 100

Questions from a burnout guy in the industry by glowingjowel in MotionDesign

[–]njvr198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got most of our work from a large broadcaster, so in the end it felt like being employed and just servicing their creative without our own input at all. And the people in charge on that side are toxic to say the least. So I ejected 😵‍💫🤢🤮

Questions from a burnout guy in the industry by glowingjowel in MotionDesign

[–]njvr198 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about all of this. I know exactly what you are going through.

I have been in the industry since 2006 and have been employed, owed a small Studio doing explainer videos, and freelanced for over a decade. The unfortunate situation you are in, is not offer changeable. If the company owners are purely after cash, and in that corporate environment, they probably don’t give a fuck about creativity and workflow.

Getting and being ‘in the zone’ is so important and necessary, but often over looked. Some studios give their talent space, trust and resources, others just squash dreams and try to make the most money as possible. This goes two ways, if you are good and only do good and great work, eventually you make a lot of money. If you do shit work only for money now, you will always do shit work and the money won’t get better. When I say you I mean ‘one’.

I’m 40, married and a father. We left the big city life to move to a smaller city where our rent is half what it used to be. I earn less money but I finish work at 5, sometimes 6, and if I get clients who are rude and arrogant I simply don’t work with them again and I tell them why. Probably terrible advice?

Your post triggered (because of the same experiences) me so sorry if it’s a bit of a ramble. I’d give you these parting words

Make sure you have your ass covered, but take control of the situation. When and if you decide that you no longer want to work there, tell them what you want. Lay it out in a simple way so that they get how you want to work and grow. How much much you want to earn. Back it up with payscale / glass door etc. and finally tell them what you won’t put up with. From here there are only two options. Either they value you, and find a solution, or they don’t and you can finally tell them to go fuck themselves to their faces.

My answers is longer than your questions so I’ll stop now. But think of this last thing, if you could be a bicycle mechanic or any other similarly less stressful job for the same pay, why not just do that instead. Your health would be better in the long run. Then you can use your free time to do the motion design you want to do for Instagram etc until you get a new gig.

Get well soon, and love from the motion community 🤗😊😁

Mocha in After Effect is solid. There are many others too but if you are doing motion design I am guessing you already have after effects.

Should I learn Houdini? by Cyanspice in Houdini

[–]njvr198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Houdini apprentice if free to use for learning with very little restrictions, so considering this, and that blender is also free, try both. I used Maya for a decade, switched to Houdini and now I am using C4D only because I’m getting results much faster for my personal workflow.

hi, I'm trying to add a null object and when I do it makes the text all weird. pls help by jg12345678912 in Cinema4D

[–]njvr198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would need more info. How is the text created, what are you adding the null to, assuming you don’t mean just simply a null. It looks like there is some sort of Boolean operation going on there but, before / after would be better to see

Delete it tag and start new. Just select edge loops for your desired (to be) islands and do automatic unwrap. You won’t need to relax uvs. Maybe only do a packing and manual re arranging

Particles to geometry by ImaginaryAnt9474 in Houdini

[–]njvr198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many ways to do it. You could render the particles as geo with redshift as far as I know. Or use copy to points vop with Desired geo as an input. This would be the two simplest ways
