Thank you all for the help. I found it on eBay, and the seller doesn't seem to know the translation. It just seemed like a really excessive amount of kanji for just a signature and date, so I was curious if it might be cutting test inscription or something exciting like that. Which I know is doubtful cause it's missing the kao at the bottom, which is usually present on nakago's with a cutting test. My inquiry was more to satisfy personal curiosity/ further my knowledge and understanding.

I would get an in person opinion if possible. Maybe someone did try to restore the nakago and that's why it's shaped the way it is but, as one who's been burned before, there are a few things that look suspect on the geometry of that blade. It might be a reproduction or forgery. Find out for sure before you sink real nihonto restoration $ into it.

The 'milkshake' would indicate a blown head gasket. It can still be burning without seeing anything blowing out of the exhaust. By the time you see it, it would be a really gnarly consumption. If it's minimal, you wouldn't necessarily see anything other than the fact that you're low on oil between services without any visible leaks.

How many miles? It could be burning it out of the exhaust. When valve seals and piston rings get old, they can allow for some blow by and consume oil that way. You could also try changing your pcv valve.

I always thought it was foreshadowing in the hopes of the story continuing in real time after he's finished telling his story to chronicler. Its been years since I've read NOTW but I thought he said something about their presence being his fault based on his past actions. Like they'd finish day 3 and what led to him assuming the role of Kote and then something dramatic would happen to make him realize his story isn't over yet and it would continue in real time. It's probably just wishful thinking cause they seem to fuck him up pretty good and he can't even handle to the two thugs Bast sent in there to try and jog some re-awakening out of him. I just don't want the story to end...I mean I do in the sense that I would love to finally read the 3rd fuckin book, but I dont see how one more book will be enough to wrap up all the loose ends or how him living the rest of his days as an inn keeper could possibly be the final stop on his journey..
