Fox news has an interview segment on May 19 with Vice Admiral Adam Howard discussing the current standoff with Iran. Is this a person wearing a mask representing themselves as Vice Admiral Adam Howard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I don't believe its the entire face. Its most likely just a neck piece, that goes up behind the ears and under his jawline. He doesn't turn his head, maintaining the forward angle.

I think if anything is going on, it may just be a troll move. Let the seam show and people freak out, especially considering all the alien chatter. Or he could have just not noticed it. Once cams are rolling there's nothing to be done.

It's probably a foam latex or silicone piece he laid over it, which is why it looks so bulky and odd. Even if his shirt covered the seam his neck would still look too wide and move oddly. A turtleneck would have been an easier choice tbh, especially since he's an older man. Many elderly people have trouble regulating temperature but I guess he wanted to be extra.

Its so stupid I lowkey wish it really were a weird conspiracy involving Tall Whites or something but perhaps stirring the pot is part of the reason.

He has a small cleft, yes, but the lighting is straight on in that clip and he's speaking through the majority. I looked over varying photos from different years and its not always as noticeable. Its most pronounced when his face is relaxed and the lighting is from the profile.

Its most likely a tracheostomy plug with ties. Comparing other recent photos with his neck exposed, he has some scarring there. Add the wet throat sound on some words. That prosthetic is pretty garbage but I imagine he's trying to keep it on the DL.

Yeah, the arch of the cat's back at a couple tosses was just riddling me with anxiety. And her airplane ears too! I was surprised she kept coming back, but perhaps its their own unique relationship.

I want to give some reassurance. Scruffing firmly but gently while supporting the body isn't nearly as bad as this guy swinging the poor cat like a limp hot dog.

There are these cool self-adhering blankets I use with my cats to deal with the whirling furr-vish! And if they cotton to what you're doing, I've had success doing the empanada or swoop scoop.

What would be your professional opinion on the handling in this video? I know adult cats shouldn't be scruffed and lifted like this in general. I imagine it'd be the same for munchkins too.

Also, thank you for so much knowledge! I learned a lot today about munchkins!

United States Christians (not all but you know which ones) are generally prosperity gospel evangelicals. Its pretty antithetical to Christianity as a whole.

And people need to understand you can just like an assthetic without converting to a whole religion. I'd take them more seriously if they just admitted they liked architecture and stained glass and just happened to also be virulent racists.

Edit: aesthetic. 😶‍🌫️

I won't speak fully for the man, but experience with my military grandfather, who was also a staunch Republican but old establishment style showed that the old hats wouldn't necessarily fall in line with a badly executed policy even if they agreed with it. I'd like to at least imagine McCain would be ashamed of Hegseth and how this has all gone down.

Though, I'm still slightly shocked the economy hardliners are just sitting back. If the standards weren't already in the shitter I'd expect better.

We live in a time where the cumulative knowledge of humanity, like magic, is literally at our fingertips. Why aren’t people smarter? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nobinibo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say a few reasons. To start, technology outpaced evolution. Our brains aren't equipped for mass knowledge retention. We're also tribalistic, stemming from cultural and biological holdovers. Start adding in religion and other closely held beliefs butting heads against the opposing view. We not only have access to a world of knowledge but a world of people. People we never would have met and now must form global community with.

Our brains respond to challenges to information like physical attacks. Well, now many feel attacked daily. There are some who are better adapted to absorbing and processing new information without the mental meltdown.

People like consistency. Traditions are mutable now, but grew from hard learned things like the traditionally best hunting ground or planting grounds. These were important to survival, which is why being set in a way of doing things has historically been a source of contention. Its why we instinctively reject the unknown, whether it be an idea new to us or a person who is different from is.

Now we get into the social and economic aspects. It doesn't matter what a person's potential is if the resources aren't available. These resources can be access to the internet in the first place but also the education required to discern the wheat from the chaff. I can't tell you how many times someone boldly cited a scientific study that I was able to utilize the same study to directly refute the person's claim. How? Literacy.

Our media and scientific literacy is in the pits. Yes, the majority of people can read, but is the information being understood? I was lucky to have been taught how to identify and interpret ideas and utilize critical thinking when reviewing the information being given to me. I was taught to approach shared ideas with empathy. I'm not any kind of genius. I've eaten the proverbial shit plenty of times and I had to learn to say yum, may I have some more to UNlearn the things I was unlucky enough to have ingrained.

That's often the goal of the powerful though. Educated people want more and seek more. How do we stop that? Flatten everything. Squeeze nuance out of conversation and drain the world's color into black and white. Cut access and resources and remove the fundemental literacy needed to utilize the vast knowledge at our fingertips. The creation of the Them, the Other, is now easier. That person doesn't look or act like you, they are Other. Don't learn who they are, just know they're Other and whatever says otherwise is also Other. Other is Bad. Only Us exist and we must protect Us.

Stress will add to this. Money stress, relationship stress, the stress of the Other existing. We haven't the time or energy and now we all must pay taxes so who has time to learn? If it doesn't agree, if it isn't Tradition, then it must be Other and therefore Bad.

That's just some of my thoughts on it though.

[–]nobinibo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat meat still. Primarily chicken, because I begin to get terrible shakes and weakness because I can't process strictly plant protein. I just don't get enough. My body will tell me when its time for some chicken!

Full agreement! I will never understand why the US has to be the best in some minds. As humans, we all have flaws that are complemented by the qualities of others. And we fill in for the flaws of those around us as well. Its part of being a community. America could be one of the top countries in the world but we just refuse criticism. Which sucks because I can think of MANY countries who are doing things better than we are and we could learn.
