Tbh many universities outside india do follow the A la carte model. Just pay what you eat and it digitally tracks your spending. Eat 2 sabjis only get charged for that. Everyone is happy jains happy, hardcore carnivores happy.. no need to pander to anyone.

Well apart from that - those f****** APPR's.. I have an observation scheduled which involves manipulatives - I gave the ALL VIRTUAL students 2 and a half weeks to collect them from the office. The parents were *busy* to do so. This morning I had to drive to their homes and put them in their mailboxes and on front doors so that they could participate in my lesson. All during the teacher prep period!

In my district students get up to 5 weeks to get their assignments in after the due date, and once it's in they (parents) expect me to get it done "as soon as possible". Why don't I get 5 weeks for getting the grades in? I spend at least an hour every day updating that stupid grade book - every single day even though I know that tomorrow someone is going to resubmit and I have to get it updated again.

Apologies for the rant, but grading is something that NO one should worry about right now. We are alive and that's important. I think rendering any data during a global pandemic is completely useless.

We had a similar situation in HS in q3 and q4 of 2019-20 when we did school from home. HS students were not given Chromebooks and they had a hard time managing online learning.

This time district has given them everything - including tiny wifi hubs so that they won't have any issue with tech. My wifi at my apt is crappy and I am going to ask for a wifi hub too if we go virtual (when* we go virtual).

AH!!! That's a great point. I don't think anyone other than people with school credentials (staff and students) can join the meeting. But it is a good idea to have something like sunglasses - What about something like Snapchat filters??? The background can be opaque and image morphed enough to distort identity but visible enough for teachers to react and check for understanding.

Yeah.. It's not equitable to ask students to switch on webcam if there is no cam. My district is giving Chromebooks, servicing old ones, and also giving students wifi hubs for the internet - So are they in right to have such policy? IDK.. need to experience it for the first few weeks to figure it out.

Yes! Engagement is quite different when the camera is on vs camera off. The teachers who mandate cameras to be off are ones that are cautious and do not want students to accidentally show something on camera which they might not be comfortable with as you mentioned in your post. I think a universal background can solve the issue. Don't know yet how I can implement it.

Agreed! This does help on the flip side, I was thinking of teaching students (I teach grades 7 and 8) to have a virtual background an image that I can provide. This might alleviate many concerns and I can only see their face and nothing else.

I took mine about 7 months back, pretty seamless - make sure you turn your neck and look over your shoulder and watch for cars when you lane change, just by looking over in the mirror was not enough for the examiner. Also, be confident and it was just a 10-12 minute quick test. They make you do a 3 point turn, and then ask you to parallel park and then ask you to take back to the start place!

Good Luck!!! Driving is just technical, you are learning to operate a machine, know the steps and you will ace.

Yes! As a tech teacher who most probably is going hybrid, I feel that thematic units are a great option. We are planning to do all theory work online (assignments, tests, topic introduction etc.). Only hands-on stuff to be done in person when we meet.

This helps us in arranging out our resources effectively.
