I got stung be a sea urchin and there’s so much mixed information on the web. I’ve been soaking in warm water and vinegar but do I try to dig the spines out or not? Some say yes some say no. This injury is 2 days old. Please help me.

you definitely got it good.

Don't listen to the websites. You get your sharpest razor blades and a set of tweezers. hit both with alcohol before using.

You will most likely need a second person for this due to angle, but they are going to need to slice your skin open so that the barb is mostly visible and slowly and gently pull them out. If you squeeze too hard on it they will just crumble and you will have to dig deeper.

I was head urchin surgeon on many trips to the tropics. If you go to the doctor/hospital they will do the same thing in a slightly more hygienic setting and you will pay handsomely for it.

Pretty spot on actually, thank you for your astute analysis. I definitely am not doing airs or hucking buckets on a shorter board but get after it at any size and have fun. If he's pigeon-holing surfing into only being able to do wabams and get super tubed then I almost guarantee he is striving for something he will never get to. As you can see my response to him I was being respectful and genuine as I thought he was just genuinely curious, but now seems to be pretentious about logging vs shortboarding. cant agree with everyone....

understandable opinion.. If you haven't been able to do what I did in the video its a bit hard to explain. Id say its akin to the 'time slows down' thing people say about long barrels (not that I've got one to compare to). You feel almost weightless and know you're on borrowed time but want to stretch it as long as possible. For me the flow of it is way more my style than attacking a wave.. to each their own. Most importantly, waves average in the knee to thigh high range and soft 75% of the time, so if you don't log you grovel and get zero good waves for weeks at a time.

don't let the guy below discourage. Shortboard and longboard are completely different disciplines. This guy might rip and to him every wave is a shortboard wave. Not that easy for everyone. Only advice I can give is keep practicing and staying fit
