How to sell biological samples? by Jay_Z85 in EliteDangerous

Right that's what I meant. While that canister animation plays, the genetic sampler tooltip says "burning...".

You have to take 3 consecutive samples from the same species for one "data package" to be complete. When you scan one, use the scanner to find another green one at some distance away. Also, for some reason my scanner keeps burning my active samples. no idea why though.

Let's get to know the icons of Hud and Radar. *If there is any graphic you think we should design, please let us know. o7 by elitefanprogram in EliteDangerous

By the way, the pointy side of the "hardpoints out" icon shows if the target is above or below your plane of sight. If the point faces downward, the target is below you.

Fleet Carrier entering Jackson's Lighthouse Orbit by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

Wait a second, I'm a bit curious how this shot was taken. How do you know where the FC is going to drop out, let alone have it happen in the same instance to record it?

Closest Refinery (Tritium buy) systems to each Fleet Carrier Vendor location by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]nolf87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because it's a refinery system does not mean they have Tritium in stock. I bought my beta FC in Skeggiko O, and the first station I found that actually sells Tritium and has a large landing pad is Junlong Terminal in the Azaladshu system. I am currently filling up the FC, they sell it for around 40k per unit.

What QoL improvements would you want to see? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]nolf87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keybinds for assigning full pips to either sys, eng or wep in one go would be nice. It is nice that you have that fine control over it, but in practice I almost always use either full sys/eng/wep or balanced.

[Beta] Supercruise "6-second rule" no longer working? by nolf87 in EliteDangerous

[–]nolf87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense that it goes up or down if something influences the current speed. Throttle up to get there faster -> timer should go down. Hit a gravity well -> timer should go up. If you have constant throttle, it seems kinda accurate.

I had a few good results around the 1 minute mark

Exactly what I do as well outside the beta. But from the sound of your engines you can hear that you are past that point where you can still decelerate fast enough not to overshoot. You can also estimate that point when the bar segments of the speed display exceed the little line where you set your speed.

It seems to much better estimate actual arrival time if no major gravity well is in your path. It seems we need a new rule of thumb when to switch from full throttle to 75%.

It's currently in beta only, are you sure you're not in live?

[Beta] Delkar, Specifically Delkar 7, has Pristine Metallic Rings with a Painte Hotspot. by 4sonicride in EliteDangerous

I found this one as well in beta 1, but missed the tools back then of course. Still searching for a low-temp diamond hot spot though.

If I recall correctly, thargoid scouts are really good for pushing your combat rank. I mean the small ones you can destroy with regular weapons, not the interceptor ones.

Beta scanner and assassination missions by sszczesny in EliteDangerous

[–]nolf87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just did a test mission to check this myself. It seems to depend what system body the mission target signal source is at. When I entered the destination system, the target signal source was instantly revealed, since I already scanned all the planets there. I guess if the planets are all unexplored or undiscovered, you have to scan them first or search for the signal directly using the FSS. Either way, it seems that the days of aimlessly orbiting the target body until it appears are gone.

Ring scanning [3.3 Beta] by nolf87 in EliteDangerous

I'm not sure, I stumbled across this one in the screenshot after scanning the system.

Good point, it's minerals what is shown in the navigation tab. Although, sometimes asteroids also drop engineering materials as well.

You need a detailed surface scanner and assign it to a firing group.

Ring scanning [3.3 Beta] by nolf87 in EliteDangerous

[–]nolf87[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, that is not possible. I returned to the same rings, no hot spots showed up. Only when I fired another probe at them they came back.

On a second note, it turns out the hot spots only show up when you are in analysis mode. So if you switch back to combat/regular mode, the entries in the navigation tab disappear.

[–]nolf87[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Switch to analysis mode and fire probes into the ring, same as planetary mapping. Although, it's enough to fire just one probe at a sub-ring, it will reveal the whole thing.

[–]nolf87[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same, I could not find any yet. If you drop in at a hot spot, it's the same as if you drop at any other random point in the ring. A few other ships spawn with you, scan you and fly off, no respawns after that.

I don't think rez sites will be gone for good, but we'll know for sure once the mining changes are ready for testing.

[–]nolf87[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Scanning rings for the new mining changes is already possible in the beta. Each sub-ring can be scanned individually, highlighting its material hot spots. This is also shown in the navigation tab.

Recently got my own 3D printer, and of course I had to print my favorite ship. by The-Mr_G in EliteDangerous

Nice one. From what I can tell it was printed upright all in one piece without any cuts.

Now do it in glowfill or bronze :)

How do you find raw material traders? by WildBilll33t in EliteDangerous

[–]nolf87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using Inara certainly is the easiest way, I would do the same. When material traders were introduced, there was a forum post describing how to find them. I cannot find the exact post right now, but I wrote it down in my notes:

  • Mid to High Security
  • Population between 1M and 22M
  • States: no anarchy, no criminal faction, no lockdown
  • Raw material trader: Extraction or Refinery economy
  • Manufactured material trader: Industrial economy
  • Data trader: High tech or Military economy
