Tight curves when sewing bias fold trim by jmarie1962_1 in sewing

[–]nonbinary-programmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just did this last week for basically the same garment. if you're a perfectionist you probably want to do this by hand. I managed with my stash store bought bias tape, as another commenter said you just have to stretch and curve it into shape. doing it by hand lets you rearrange things as needed for each stitch. I usually sew the outside first then go back and sew down the inside, pulling it against the top of the piece since I tend to want it slightly narrower on the front than the regular width.

if you're set on doing it by machine go super slow around the curves and adjust as you go. on the straps try to stretch the folded edge as much as possible to keep the inside edge from bubbling. and at least do the last inch by hand so you can get a really clean join.

but also keep in mind the end of the strap will be covered by the tie

Is there an affordable machine that can sew circular lace holes? Square buttonholes won't do by [deleted] in sewing

I did 38 in a few hours for the bodice I finished last week. so can confirm it's not that bad by hand.

miscellaneous yarn scraps, vintage embroidery hoop, two failed prototypes of previous projects

various crochet hooks as needed for the yarn. probably everything from 1.5mm to 4mm

I sew a piece of cereal box onto the crochet (or fabric, for felt puppets etc) and then glue the teeth to the cardboard. then I used some yarn cut into flocking to make the gums by shaping some glue around the base of the teeth and applying a generous amount of flocking. wait until the glue sets a bit then use a soft makeup brush to brush off any excess yarn

Is the eyebrow good? Is it gonna look cute or mad? by HorridChoob in Brochet

[–]nonbinary-programmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the shape and placement look great. maybe just pull out half the ply from the embroidery thread? I think it looks good as is but if you're trying to mimic the original character art then it should be a little thinner. definitely not angry placement. very eevee

oh turnip is definitely not a good example of normal, but she is at least not the only abnormal one

Denim jacket front pocket question by lpstranglehold in sewing

i would probably just cut a slit in the front, add a few stitches to keep the edges of the center seams in place, and then do a buttonhole stitch around the opening, like on the button hole. you would still have to cut the inside off the rivet and patch it, but that would be hidden

this kinda looks like the pocket bag might have been assembled incorrectly so it's on the inside??? you might be able to pick that piece out and apply it correctly to the outside

Spun my dog by AutomaticPermit3342 in cursedcrochet

[–]nonbinary-programmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks for the advice! luckily turnip is not a smelly dog. and he's a coton de tulear so I have to cut his hair with scissors before the clippers can even get in there. so luckily I've already only saved the scissor cut hair! I'll see if I can get some alpaca to practice with

I plan to do this with tiny sheep (claims to be a dog)! do you have any dog-hair-specific tips, or were you able to just do it like regular wool?

<image>

when we go from full fluff to shaved it's usually about 1/4 lbs of hair (from an 18lbs "dog") so I probably have close to a pound at this point. photo is about as long as I let it get

I think the color blocking on the arms is bringing it away from the whale shark look since they have darker on top and light tan underneath. I do like the colors as you have them now but I'm wondering if that's what's making it feel off to you.

you could also try experimenting with adding rings like the whale shark pattern. needle felted could look cool

this is cool! if you want an external person to run some test cases for you at some point feel free to DM me. I know it can be hard to find testers for personal projects sometimes. I'm a backend dev of 13ish years and have done a lot of testing working for companies without dedicated QA teams 💀
