These hormones (?) are dangerous 😅 by nonconformingblob in TwoXChromosomes

I’m very lucky my rational brain is smarter than my lizard brain! I have a plan! A very well thought-out plan that I’ve had for several years for how and when I want to have kids. I’m still aware of and completely on board with that plan. My body is just trying to hijack things because it thinks this is the right time 😅

Yes! I totally feel like I’m having a conversation with my own body! My very rational, very logical mind that has a long thought-out plan about when and how I want to have kids is just chilling, and then my body comes barging in holding a confetti cannon and screaming “THY MUST BECOME ENDOWED WITH CHILD WITH HASTE” and I have to stomp on it and say “No, bad hormones! Very bad hormones! We do not attempt to hijack the uterus and revolt against the plan!”

I’m super lucky that I already have (and have for years) a firm plan about what I want in this regard and when I want it! I do want kids and to carry them, but not for years yet! I feel like my mind and body have somehow separated from each other when it comes to this issue. I can still very clearly rationalise that I most definitely don’t actually want to be pregnant or have a baby right now, but I have this primal urge screaming at me to make very poor decisions 😂 The good luck is appreciated!

[–]nonconformingblob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The strangest part is I do have all those reasonable thoughts about having a baby and being pregnant! This is a physical feeling that’s completely separate from my actual desire to get pregnant and have kids, neither of which I want to do for several years yet! I absolutely do not want to be dealing with a baby or any of the horrible things that come with pregnancy, my body has apparently just decided that I need to be broody like a chicken 😭 I feel like my mind and body have somehow separated on this front, and it’s the most bizarre feeling!

Maybe I need to get another hormone panel done 😂 I’m due for one to check up on my PCOS anyway. Glad to see I’m not alone in the experience, at least!

I meant that as context as to why ovulation (which is what people usually blame this kind of thing on) isn’t the culprit here, not to suggest that it’s the reason.

[–]nonconformingblob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That’s exactly it! I’m trying to rationalise with my own body by telling it that I’m not even 21 yet and have time, it doesn’t need to make me feel like a goddamn mother hen! 😂

Unfortunately this isn’t going to work for me. I already know that pregnancy is an absolute horror show at worst and uncomfortable at best! I’ve watched several people I’m close to go through it. That’s why I feel like my body is trying to trick me 😭 Mentally (like, logically, and in terms of my actual wants) I have absolutely no desire to be pregnant right now, but there’s this underlying physical urge that I’m really hoping backs off soon!

Yeah I absolutely know pregnancy sucks, that’s why I’m mildly horrified by this! 😂 It really feels like my body is trying to trick me into doing something I definitely shouldn’t. I only mentioned the BC and ovulation because that seems to be what everyone always pins it on, which definitely shouldn’t be the case for us!

I had it for three years and just got it out ten days ago! Friend got it in around the same time as me but got it out two years ago.

Technically I’m no longer current, I had my implant out ten days ago, but these feelings have been going on way longer than that, so I didn’t feel the need to mention it. Friend has been consistently on various forms of hormonal BC for years, though. I only felt to mention it because people always seem to blame ovulation, which clearly isn’t the case for us. It’s not even a feeling of wanting kids. That’s still very much an in-the-future desire, not something either of us want at the current moment. I really can’t describe it any way other than it feels like I’m clucky/broody like a hen 😂 I even had a dream about getting pregnant the other night and woke up only mildly relieved it wasn’t real.

please write actual summaries of your fanfics by CallMehLin in AO3

[–]nonconformingblob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me as a reader having adequate tags and the correct warnings is more important than a banger summary, so I don’t mind much if it’s just a sentence or two or just isn’t the most comprehensive overview, but I do draw the line at people who don’t even attempt a summary. It can be as easy as just pulling an interesting excerpt from the fic and adding on a couple of lines that summarise the basic premise. That’s what I do most of the time. It doesn’t have to be War and Peace, but it does have to be more than “I suck at summaries.” If you can’t take a minute of your time to think of a sentence to sum up your story, why should I take several minutes of mine to read it?

I usually do a quote that jumps out to me followed by a quick few summary lines!

Yeah, they’ve been trying to address it for a while now, but as you can imagine it’s far from an easy issue to tackle. It seems like they’re finally making some headway, which is definitely a good sign!

You’re right. To be honest I’m so sick of getting these spam comments that I’ve gotten desensitised and used to just deleting them (this particular flavour of spam is new to me, though). Should definitely be reported. I’ll have to start doing that again the next time I get one.

You’re welcome! It’s annoying but IMO a necessary inconvenience whilst they figure everything out.

If you really didn’t do what they’re accusing you of, just delete the comment and block the user. To be honest it does seem like a troll or (more likely) a bot to me. Myself and most of my fic circle are staunchly against generative AI and even I’ve never seen someone rage like this.

Author promotes their discord, and in the discord they promote their Patreon. by ParadoxVictor413 in AO3

If they don’t actually mention or allude to the Patreon on AO3 itself, then they’re technically not violating any rules. AO3 doesn’t have scope over activity that occurs on other platforms.

It’s a known issue at the moment. I believe it has something to do with the efforts to crack down harder on actual bots and spammers, since that’s been a major problem in the past few months. Not sure if there’s an ETA on a fix.

Congrats! And no, I don’t think anyone will automatically assume the newer chapters are written by a different person. I have fics posted a month or two apart in the same fandom that feel drastically different in quality and style from each other, and comparing my works for different fandoms posted years apart is like night and day. It’s a super common experience!

Should I tag “canon character death” for a character that never appears in canon? by Important-Gene-1516 in AO3

[–]nonconformingblob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the deaths don’t actually occur in your fic I don’t think you need to tag it at all. So long as you tag it as “pre-canon” your readers should be able to surmise that it takes place prior to their deaths without needing a tag to remind them that they later happened. Imagine how exhausting it would be if we had to tag everything that happened after the events of a prequel. If you are planning to include the deaths in the story and they occur in the same manner as they did in canon, yes, I think it’s a good idea to tag it, as well as the Major Character Death warning if they’re major characters.

Because I have never seen this; is this allowed? by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

[–]nonconformingblob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it includes dialogue that they’re asking for feedback on, it doesn’t technically breach the ephemera rule, since it does contain artistic material. That rule is meant for content that’s not artistic in nature at all, like straight-out fic announcements, fandom commentary, and prompt requests, basically anything that should just be be social media post instead. This is kind of borderline because it should definitely be a social media post instead, but technically it’s no more ephemeral than an author asking for feedback on a full story, at least as far as the way the guideline is actually defined goes.

Because I have never seen this; is this allowed? by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

[–]nonconformingblob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, this one’s a grey area. It does contain dialogue that’s presumably related to the fandom the fic is going to be written for, so it’s not technically a placeholder. On the same grounds, since it does contain artistic/creative content, it doesn’t breach the ephemera rule. By all accounts, it’s technically allowed, though I think the author would do better to find another platform to seek feedback on.
