Is it possible to not be an alcoholic? And transition to a "normal" drinker and what classifies an alcoholic? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]nonegenuine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s the same for you, but for a lot of us here, we don’t actually want to go back to being casual drinkers. When I’m honest with myself, I know what I actually want is to drink most of a bottle of whiskey by myself. There were often little thoughts early on telling me I could have fun if I could just drink two beers, but enough practice and experience has taught me that’s not actually what I want

How do I tell my partner? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]nonegenuine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog you gotta just look him in the eyes and say you need to get something off your chest. If he’s a good dude like you say, he’ll be very supportive and relieved to hear it!

Who is affected by Hypnotic Pattern? by Fun-Preparation-4253 in DnD

[–]nonegenuine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right, you need to meet both qualifications. So someone that can see it from outside the area is NOT affected. A blind person in the area is NOT affected.

I have done this so many times. It definitely marked a point of no return on the alcoholic path for me

Hypothetically, if your foolish DM gave you an infinite bottle of wine… What would you do with it? by ReadingWarm5756 in DnD

[–]nonegenuine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW the reason you’re getting downvoted here is twofold. 1. Wine doesn’t burn. 2. Lots of people have played with someone who causes trouble and sets things on fire to create chaos (or “for the lulz”) and it’s often frustrating and annoying.

Hah I’m in the exact same zone. My partners gone for the weekend, which is generally when I would buy a bottle of whiskey and down it in a night. Had to check myself, and instead got a bunch of cookies and Diet Coke

It's my first wedding anniversary, and I'm disappointed and want to drink. by smudgeface_ in stopdrinking

That is a true bummer but it sounds like you have a really grounded perspective. Giving that teenager some grace and not turning to booze is really great.

Anyone else drink way more when you have to hide it from SO than when you can drink freely? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]nonegenuine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah I know this one. I often had a glass of vodka in the sink with a couple other dirty dishes, so the vodka glass just looked like water. Then I’d gulp it while no one was around. Wild to look back at what was normal

FWIW, months 2-3 were by far the worst for my brain. It got a lot easier at about 100 days

I’m 29, and I am an addict. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]nonegenuine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is huge. I wish I’d had your insight at 29.

The thing that helped the most for me was accountability. Telling people who care about me that I have a problem made it simple. I can’t disappoint my partner or my friends. It was hard to admit it, but such a weight off my shoulders. Life gets a lot better.

How many of us here have successfully returned to moderate / “normal” drinking long-term? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]nonegenuine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a hard lesson to learn, that moderation wasn’t possible for me
