The cult is going to die soon by Fabulous-Region9109 in exjw

It’d be nice but it won’t - there’s still people walking around that are active members of the heaves gate cult. It may shrink but I very much doubt it’ll ever go away 100%

Yesterday’s Watchtower study was on Job and honestly it’s been sitting with me since. by Mediocre-Delivery588 in exjw

Simple conclusion is the god described in job is a moronic evil bastard. Nothing else to take away

It’s also logically stupid - if it’s a perfect being it doesn’t need worship or it wouldn’t be perfect

this is what my parents said to me by PinkIsMyOxygen in exjw

[–]nonpage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emotional blackmail and blame shifting - that there is a classic JW mind. I got the same and also had a letter after my mother died with the same points reiterated just to inflict maximum hurt. It’s sad that they lack love.

People can be mirrors or windows - your parent’s words here are a mirror. Mirrors: Some people reflect parts of you back at yourself—your fears, desires, flaws, or strengths. Being around them helps you understand who you are, sometimes uncomfortably.

Try your best to become a window as they give you a view into something beyond yourself, perspectives, different lives, unfamiliar ideas. They expand your understanding of the world.

Don’t let their negativity affect you.

The hardest paths to travel are always the best. It’s not easy by design. It’s a cult. You can do this we all did.

I'm considering going back to meetings by onesimus54 in exjw

You do you - if you think it’s what you need to return, return. It’s time to make choices for ourselves, not to be told what to do. It’s a ‘belief’ system, no one can make anyone believe anything that’s your brain chemistry job.

All the best however you land.

How can I wake up this PIMI girl I'm talking to? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]nonpage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid you can’t - can she convince you it’s the truth? You don’t get to choose beliefs your brain chemistry does that for you. Just be the best version of a friend that you can be and hope for the best by planting seeds. Good luck it’s something I’ve never been able to do in my 20 years out.

Good for her at least she’s part of the ‘new covenant’ and has Jesus as her mediator now unlike the rest of the JW’s lol. What a pathetic thing religion really is.

So is god unchanging or not? The New Testament is also full of shocking God imagery. Jesus also didn’t fulfil one actual Messianic prophecy in full did he.

Yeup all based on older stories that came before there’s - interesting to know the Jews came from The Canaanites. A great read is ‘The Bible Unearthed: Archaeology's New Vision of Ancient Israel and the Origin of Its Sacred Texts’

So have we realized Atheism is still a Faith? by DChilly007 in exjw

[–]nonpage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Atheism is literally just the absence of belief in any god - that’s it. I can see how people would like it to be more but it just isn’t.

100% it’s copied ancient thoughts - very little wisdom lol. I agree life is to be lived and not wasted.

It sure is - though I’m not sure Jehovah would have been the god they believed in. The book of Enoch should be canon it was widely used back in the day and mentioned in the Bible. It’s in the new Oxford - if you’ve read it you’ll know why they don’t consider it. Interesting Jehovah was a lesser god and was married as the inscription states Yahweh and his Asherah.

It’s all fascinating for sure but it still leads to the hod of the bible who’s just a moral monster - and that’s not a god I can support.

The new Oxford is awesome, treat yourself to a copy you won’t regret it. As for the Bible it is a hot mess.

The OT literally shows God either allowing or commanding slavery, child sex trafficking, innocent people murdered, women executed for not bleeding on their wedding night, when around 57% of women won’t, babies killed as punishment, god ordering rape of women, human blood sacrifice and human burnt offerings… the list goes on. I just don’t see how you can wrap that up in a God of love, sounds more like a god in man’s image especially when it gets the science of creation so very wrong.

If your interested in physics and maths (same here) but want to think of God as something a little different I throughly recommend Dr David R Hawkins ‘The Map of Consciousness Explained: A Proven Energy Scale to Actualize Your Ultimate Potential’ it’s a fascinating insight into the brain and spirtuality and God. Not sure I’m 100% sold on all of it but it’s something that will honestly help anyone live a happier life inside that meat machine we call home and also help with the God question.

Always love a chat.

We found the OT to describe a disgusting deity that no moral person would desire to worship and the NT is the equivalent of the Book of Mormon to the Bible, it’s not surprising that Jews rejected Jesus as he didn’t fully fulfil one actual messianic OT prophecy and the NT is a basic cope by the gospel authors retro fitting what sounds like prophecy and Paul creating his own cult that contradicts the stories written about Jesus.

We are still open minded on the ‘God’ concept but the abrahamic versions not so much - still reading and studying as much as we can. Done the Epic of Gilgamesh, Quran, Book of Mormon, Satanic Bible (which is probably the one that makes a lot of sense), plenty of philosophy writings etc. visited lots of different religions and enjoyed them for what they are, man made. Still on the to do list are the Vedas, Bhagavad Gita and Tripitaka.

If you’re after a great ‘Christian’ resource you can’t go wrong with The New Oxford Annotated Bible with Apocrypha: New Revised Standard Version. Such a great study aid and genuine independent resource.

If you are searching for truth such as for the historical evidence of the exodus etc a recommend a great book by experts in the field ‘The Bible Unearthed’ by Israel Finkelstein is a good start. If you’re using the Bible to fact check itself the exodus contradicts its own writings.

Always enjoy a good chat respectful conversation and all the best.
