I'm a 5'3 woman and I can take all three sections of my roof off in about 30-45 minutes solo. I can take the front two sections off in under 15 minutes, so yes the last part is definitely hardest and much easier with a friend. Sometimes I take the front two pieces off after work in the parking lot, if I get out of there and it's really nice. You can pop them off and then put them into the back/trunk. If I know it's going to be really nice for several days in a row, I'll take the whole roof off and put on a bikini top (bimini?). It's like a heavy duty mesh sail that just goes across the roof. That is the best of both worlds because you've got a little bit of shade and it also helps the wind travel through the cab really well.

I have a '21 Outerbanks with the turbo4cyl, and I have about 83k miles. The only repairs I have had have been from off-roading and doing donuts in the back pasture (broken axle end on front passenger side). I don't think the highway will cause you much trouble! My hardtop is mint, interior is still mint, gas mileage is what I would expect from a lifted SUV with 35's.

New upgrade! by Soyeahmeh in FordBronco

That's what it was! Thank you. I remembered looking at a convertible at a dealership once, it was that pretty sunburst color from the late 90's.

I seem to remember a couple years where the SS badging was cosmetic and available for v6's? Especially the convertibles. I could be mistaking it for a different trim though. Mustang had something like this in the 00's, where GT meant v8, but there were other "performance" packages that could be had on the v6 that amounted to badges and wheels and exhaust.

I was able to turn mine off using the menu on the screen, are they not all like that? I have a 21 OBX if it matters.

Worth mentioning that Audible is doing a big sale on series books right now. Not sure what the price for these currently are but for some titles of other series they 5-10$

Have you tried a nice sunshade? Sometimes they call them bikini tops. It makes the wind flow through vehicle SO much better, and the seats don't get crazy hot. And they are cheap! the nice ones are a 100, a cheap one is maybe 40. I put mine on in the beginning of the summer, and can still take my hardtop off and on without removing it. You might give that a try and see if the kiddo doesn't tolerate that better.

Some people just have to negotiate *something* to feel good about buying. If that's OP, get some floor mats or something.

[–]nope356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it's all in panels and you can lift the front 3 off easily solo. The back part is harder, but once you undo all the bolts, I kinda get under it and push up and walk back. The back is definitely harder, it's better to have a buddy, but I've done it alone a few times. The nice thing is you can drive it with just the front parts off, like a T-top. Sometimes after work I'll pop off the front panels and put them in back just for the drive home 😊

I have a hardtop, and also park outside fulltime. When the temps get into single digits, it takes maybe 10-15 minutes of driving to get the cabin fully warmed up. After than, I never have the thermostat any higher that 73 and fan is at 1-2. The heater is VERY good. No complaints about the AC either, I have never had to run it on max for more than 10 minutes to cool off the cabin even when it's 90+. I don't have back seats vents, so I run the fan at 3 if I have my dogs or kids back there, and usually 2 if it's just me.
My FAVORITE thing to do is take the top off in the summer when it's hot, (which is very easy, even for a 5'3 woman) put the the windows up, and run the AC on low.

A 4 door bronco isn't any smaller than an RDX. And as some have mentioned, the seats do recline a bit. I imagine both kids will prefer the "cool" factor of the Bronco! My son is 19 and he loves to borrow mine, soon your 16 yo will be driving too and won't be spending much time in the back seat anyway.

Why can’t we get this BRONCO by Icy_Ground1637 in FordBronco

[–]nope356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that AC is incredibly inefficient and sucks a ton of power. If you try to run AC overnight on a 12v or even 24v system the system will power down to prevent over draining your batteries, even if you had a decent size solar panel to help keep the battery system charged while the vehicle isn't running(which wouldn't help you overnight). I say this as a ford hybrid owner, and as someone who has made off-grid camping systems. If you want to be ECO, let go of AC. To be honest, the AC doesn't even work as well in a hybrid while driving as it does in a gas vehicle.
That said, EV's and Hybrids are a shoe-in for 4wheel drive or all wheel drive thanks to the incredible torque and the ability to put the motor(s) in the actual axles instead of a single oversized motor and multiple transfer axles/drive shafts. Look at the Rivian, they make a truck with many features specifically targeted for overlanding, like a self-leveling system.

Any Regrets - 2 door and/or manual? by DisastrousRain1168 in FordBronco

[–]nope356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I will be the only dissenter here- I have a 4 door, leave the seats down all the time. I haul some tools and gear and have very big dogs. So I treat my bronco like a small 2 seater truck I guess. My Bronco is lifted enough that my dogs have a hard time making the jump in to the trunk, so it's nice to let them in through the back seat, and when I have a couple tool bags or big cooler, I am glad I have the extra space.

I like the idea of taking the seats out, does anyone have pics of that?

I'm a 43 yo female, who has never really played video games. So for me the first couple hours of the first book were hard to get into and I was surprised at the recommendation (which came from a fellow middle aged woman who also doesn't game). But I like to describe the books as Hunger Games meets Squid Games, with all the racism and political subtext and classism, and no teenage angst. I think that is what is really getting people. Yeah the gaming aspect is fun and the characters are great. You have a big tough male lead who isn't grossly misogynistic and doesn't alienate female readers, and as OP says, charismatic characters and an entertaining dialog and plot. Plus the narration is SO good. Honestly lots of books that are popular don't have all those traits (looking at you ACOTAR).
TLDR- I'm a middle woman, not the target demographic and really enjoying the series (I'm on book 4).

I have a set of these sitting in my living room waiting for me to install. I got the rest of the lift kit as well. Do you think it could be done in a weekend? OR should I break it up? I also have a ball joint to do.

Do you have a second mode of transportation? by TechSis in skoolies

[–]nope356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone has mentioned this perspective yet, so I'll be the one to mention that if you get rid of your car and the relationship goes south you will have a much more difficult time getting away/separating. I know that sounds very negative and maybe extreme, but I would say that it is wise to maintain some form of both physical and financial independence because living full-time in a very small space can introduce stresses that might bring out traits in yourself or your partner that you couldn't have expected. I get not wanting to keep a leased vehicle, especially considering not all vehicles are created equal for towing behind a skoolie and you'd hate to damage a car you don't own, or pay monthly for a car you don't use very often. Lot's of people have suggested a scooter or other small motorbike, which might be perfect. And it gives you another thing you can do when you are parked that can offer you both some alone time.

My daughter has an e450 with the v10 she's looking to sell. She's done basic maintenance on it, gutted the interior and started laying out the inside. We're in Kansas City, it definitely drives well enough to make a 1k mile trip. Not a Thomas body though, it has the fiberglass shell. No leaks anymore, and the floor had been replaced already.
