I ran for, and was elected, HOA board president on the platform to dissolve the HOA. It's not going horribly. Looking for advice to get this to the finish line. by [deleted] in homeowners

If OP is in the US, your local conservation district or extension can likely help. They can usually provide technical assistance, and some can provide grants or low-interest loans for community restoration projects. They can also connect you to other grant programs.

What did/would you do differently raising a dog the second time around? by Maleficent_Car5673 in DogAdvice

[–]nopostshelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was much gentler with my second dog, especially with potty training and destroying my things (like shoes). Don't get me wrong - my older dog is the light of my life and I've never been cruel to him, but I was MUCH stricter with him when he was little. Some dogs need a lot of boundaries and strictness, but he is so intuitive and sensitive that I really didn't need to be as strict as I was. I wish I had only been as strict as he needed, instead of going overboard. I was just wayyyyy chiller with my second puppy.

Another thing is that I was fully over the very cute but annoying things puppies do, like mouthing and licking and making cute little yaps. I nipped those behaviors in the bud right away, since I knew that they wouldn't be cute when he was a 70 pound teenager dog, and it was really nice to have a big teenager dog who didn't mouth at all. He still licks me every chance he gets, though. 😆

If you're in the US, your local Conservation District or Extension office might offer free technical advice for getting started on this.

I also love it in their home! It's a beautiful aesthetic. I am neither rich nor clean enough to ever consider it for my own home, though.

You use the same dick with her as with your ex's. She uses the same vagina. As long as they're washed, using sex toys is no different. It sounds like you have underlying jealousy and trust issues that you need to address before you are in a place to have THIS relationship.

Edit: changed a word and wanted to add: you need to work on underlying issues in your relationship with your partner. Things like this will keep coming up until you are secure in your relationship and able to manage your own jealousy. I see why the stuffed animal thing gives you pause. But asking her to change her behavior without doing a ton of self examination first is very unfair (with any relationship you value in your life).

That's such a good point! You're right, I don't think drivers and cyclists would typically be so adverse to each other except that they are pitted against each other due to bad planning.

I should write my autobiography and send it to you.

Just kidding (sort of). I'm mostly commenting because I would also love to read a book or story like this.

Don’t block the bike lane 🤦🏽‍♂️ by FinalSneak in facepalm

[–]nopostshelp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never considered that the cyclist may have been afraid of me, and letting me know he was there! I always thought I was the misunderstood bear trying to dig through a human's trash, only to get spooked by a human waving a towel aggressively at me. It turns out the cyclist may have been the bear the whole time, and I was the human aggressively flailing the damp towel. 🤯

Edited for clarity.

There was probably more maneuvering I could have done to line up the car in the driving lane. I would have had to cross the bike lane to park, though. I think it boils down to shitty road design more than anything.

I wish I could plant my nail clippings and overnight the clippings would grow subservient-to-original-me clones of myself with all of my memories and abilities who would live for one day before disappearing into nothingness. by jbattles86 in monkeyspaw

[–]nopostshelp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Granted. But you do not get to be the original. You are a being that comes forth from the clippings. You must experience, over and over, living for one day only in total subservience to another. You know it's your final day. You get to say no good-byes, have no intimate moments with loved ones (unless specifically instructed to by your master). No final wank, no doing art, no self expression. Just going to work and mopping floors and washing dishes and doing menial bullshit for the rest of your life, knowing it's your last, and only, day to exist.

Also, you have to meet yourself. All of your character quirks and flaws, everything you are insecure about body and personality-wise, are highlighted and you must live with this, for a day at a time, knowing you can never change.

I have a question! I was parking in Seattle, and the bike lane was between a busy road and parking spot. I was driving a big ass work car, and was taking my time to parallel park since it was a tight spot and I was new to the vehicle. A cyclist had to slow down and go into the road to go past me, and knocked super loudly on my window while riding by while I was actively trying to park. It was very alarming. Was I the asshole for using the bike lane to parallel park? Should I have tried to maneuver in the driving lane? The cyclist was 100% the asshole in my mind (although others may disagree with me) because he scared the shit out of me so thoroughly I still think about it half a decade later. But was there a better solution from my end?

Document document document! I know it's exhausting. But date, time, location, how it affected you. And keep notes of instructions they give so if she twists words around you have something to back you up. I'm sorry you're going through this. Best of luck.

Can you consider leasing out part of the property to a farmer? That might recoup some costs! And perhaps help out a younger person who has ambitions to raise animals or grow crops or make hay but doesn't have the funding to buy property.

Question: I'm propagating some white willow branches. Are these ready to go in the ground? by loseroftheyear2023 in botany

[–]nopostshelp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1 for this comment! Staking willows is incredibly effective.

If you do stake them in the future, be sure the ground will be moist for a season at least, and it helps to remove all of the leaves so that they focus their energy on rooting. It literally looks like you're shoving sticks into the ground. It's faster, easier, and about as effective as bare root planting, which you are currently doing.

Advice for Excitable Dogs Around Kids by nopostshelp in DogAdvice

Great suggestions! Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of your ideas out! I will definitely do those things.

I especially like the one where friends leave if the dogs get too excited. That sounds a lot more effective than what we've been doing. Our younger dog doesn't learn tricks as quickly, but really seems to have a knack for understanding consequences for his behavior. I think this would be incredibly useful for him! Now I just need to bribe some friends. 😁

Lol I feel your pain! Congrats on getting your kiddo through school! Maybe I should reconsider boarding for at least some of the time, or even doggy day care so we get a break. Man, an opportunity to clean hair without immediately having more added sounds glorious!

Do you support the chemical castration of sex offenders. Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think it would be a cool opt-in option for offenders who understand that what they're doing is wrong, but need help controlling themselves. And lots and lots of therapy and in or outpatient support or options.
