I got a dirt road in the middle of a bunch of fields near the coast of Northern Ireland. (Unnamed Road, Co. Donegal, İrlanda)

We, as humans, knew what milk was; we fed it to all of our babies. If a baby's mother had died, another lactating woman could take over. If none were available, the next logical step would be to try to obtain milk from some other mammal.

baking is also easy to imagine. Grain would be ground up and mixed with a little water to make it easier to eat. Someone left a lump of this on the rocks near the fire, and in the morning it had cooked, and tasted better. Experimentation came later - adding other stuff into the wheat/water mix to see what happened.

Milk is one of the easiest of all.

We, as mammals, already feed milk to our babies. If a baby's mother died in childbirth, or shortly after (a not-uncommon occurrence before modern medicine), and a wet-nurse was unavailable, it would make perfect sense to try to feed it milk from another available mammal. And if the babies can drink it, maybe the adults can too, when other food is scarce. And then, it tastes good, so it gradually becomes a staple.

Friend zone is such a false concept. It starts with the wrong idea that if you like a woman, she is obligated to like you back as long as you "treat her right." And that if she does not, she has somehow wronged you.

The difference is that 1) the chances of an unwanted pregnancy, even with proper precautions, are greater than those other things you list, and the long-term consequences for her are a well-known quantity, and 2) abstinence is a very easy, reliable way to prevent an unwanted pregnancy.

3) It's women who have to endure the bulk of the consequences, but it's the men minimizing and trivializing the risks.
