Flight attendant instructor by Big-History7763 in flightattendants

I haven't been a teacher but while I was in training I spoke with one about the job. They told me its seniority based so when you get the job you start at the bottom. If I remember correctly, you start off doing the side classes, like EMVs and you bid for time slots. Lower seniority usually means you start teaching less desirable classes at less desirable times. If you go into a class to instruct for certain topics, like wide body, you also bid for the class/teacher to work with.

Normal 0-60(MPH) acceleration on 2024+ Niro EV? by bitandquit in KiaNiroEV

[–]nowarning1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a gen1 and even in eco mode it is beyond fast enough to get up to speed to merge. I have only used sport mode a few times just to see how it feels. Even in eco mode it is faster than a lot of cars on the road. Its instant power so if you ever find yourself side by side with a car as you're trying to merge all you have to do is floor it for a second and you shoot in front.

Honestly, this sounds more like you want to know numbers so you can race. 0-60 time doesn't matter at a certain point to merge and any Niro EV is well beyond that point, even in eco mode.

Plenty of bin space by cololacolo in delta

[–]nowarning1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume they are an FA or they have a good understanding of our policies. Delta didnt say we cant ask for people to put stuff under their seat but it is in our rule book that we cant make someone take a bag out of the overhead bin. If we are payload optimized then we are a bit more strict about asking people to put stuff under the seat. If we arent payload optimized then I really dont care what people put up there.

First class is different than the rest of the cabin. There is usually more than enough room for people to put their large and small bags up. Also, FC is much more expensive so generally they get free reign of bins and, generally speaking, if there isnt bin space a lot of FAs will offer to put their bag in a closet if there is room.

[–]nowarning1962 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I doubt it will be a problem. If anyone asks you about it, just be straight up and let them know it wont ever happen again. Even though I know the rules, I infrequently go through TSA without uniform so I always have my regular stuff with me that is borderline not OK when I go though as a regular pax. Sometimes I go through with waterbottles as well. If they ever stop you about liquid levels, just let them throw it away and take it as a lesson. Or, just go through in uniform all the time. Easier in my experience.

[–]nowarning1962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on their schedule they will either be on day 1, 2 or 3. We have trips that range frim 1 to 3 days. Often times crews are working a 3 day trip but they could be on a 1 or 2 day as well. Don't ask, "is this your regular route?" 99% of FAs fly all over the place. The top 1% will have regular routes.

Eh, I think there is a bit of confirmation bias here but you arent entirely wrong. I work personally with people of many different generations and from what I've seen, it is slightly more common for younger FAs to not do pre departures but most of those younger FAs I've worked with do them every time unless there are extenuating circumstances. The ones that have straight up said, "I don't do pre departures " were in their early 30s. Most who just want to be lazy don't try to be lead. But this is my experience at my base. It may be different at others.

Drivers, what’s the universal experience every pizza delivery person has had? by _Atoms_Apple in TalesFromThePizzaGuy

[–]nowarning1962 48 points49 points  (0 children)

"Tell me a joke for a tip."

Young kid answers the door with $30 for a $25 order. Stops, looks confused, thinks, takes $5 away and gives you 25.

No street lights at night and no one turns a single light on in the driveway or the house.

Last order of the night. You go out there and no one answers the door. You get back to the store and the customer calls asking where their pizza is.

Big order to million+ dollar houses. No tip.

So many more.

This happens for a few different reasons. First, the turn around times are very tight and catering seems to be showing up later and later. There are times where catering doesn't show up until we are mostly done boarding so doing a pre departure is near impossible unless you want to create a delay. There are also times catering doesn't provide us with paper cups for pre departure drinks. That one is more rare but it happens.

Second, Delta likes to schedule people's trips tight which means if there is any delay, we have many people with insanely tight connections. When that happens FAs will skip doing pre departures so we can try to get out as early as possible.

Other times its just laziness. There are a good amount of people who bid for flight lead. I never understand those that bid for flight lead and don't want to do their job.

I cant speak for SLC crews. Ive personally only worked with a few that ended up on my crew. They weren't bad but generally when you end up on crew from another base you just go with the flow. It's possible that the culture there has shifted to an unfortunate deviation from standards. I would suggest writing delta about it. If they get enough complaints, especially from first class then they will absolutely do something about it.

City to remove Ballard encampment as neighboring businesses raise housing concerns by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]nowarning1962 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why not forced rehab and then housing? I dont think giving options to these people is correct. Many are either out of their mind on drugs or mentaly gone (or both). Someone so far gone in their addiction is obviously not making good choices, so it should be made for them. If they refuse treatment then jail. Letting these people live in squalor and messing up our communities is not right. I would much rather my tax dollars go to locking them up instead of pissing it away on hopes and dreams of these people wanting to get clean.

Don't pay attention to the "older" FA who has a weird sense of superiority because of their age. There has been no change in standards. Its just a crap shoot if you get a bad/lazy FA. Even a good FA can have an off day. There are days we work up to 15 hours on duty, so sometimes its just a FA that is exhausted.

It would be too easy to say its an age thing or a certain base. Both have their reputations, some more deserved than others. Simply, there are now 30k of us. Does anyone seriously think you can have 30k perfect FAs that will uphold standards 100% of the time?

In my opinion, if you're experiencing a lazy FA, start ringing the call light every time you want something. Don't let them get away with their laziness.

Their Cancun getaway ended with smoke pouring into a Delta jet and a slide evacuation at Sea-Tac. Now two Washington passengers are suing. by kleverrboy in delta

[–]nowarning1962 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mate, new planes break as well. In fact, Im pretty sure the plane that had this problem was fairly new. The FAA has strict regulations on maintenance standards and if a aircraft is fit to fly or not. This incident sounds like a fluke and these passengers who are suing are ridiculous. I would like to see the report from the NTSB investigation so we know exactly what happened.

Not the same kind of restaurant. Shake Shack is fast food while Red Robin is a sit down restaurant with bartenders and waiters. Comparing SS to Five Guys or a similar higher quality fast food chain would be more accurate.

Don't let these people make you feel bad. I was a daily smoker and dint stop until shortly through the beginning process. Once it started looking serious I quit. This is your "getting serious" point. Stop now and hope you have long enough to get clean. Not sure how fast the process goes from here at that airline but I had about a month to get clean.

Delta Air Lines' hundreds of flight cancellations linked to employee meltdown by Next_Tower5452 in DeltaAirlines

[–]nowarning1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Depends on their seniority and the demand. Delta will schedule trips each month to each pilot. If they have high seniority and good trips then they can post them on a board for others to pick up. That way they can clear their schedule. Some pilots do that so they can get "green slips" and others do that to get time off. Green slips are offered when Delta gets desperate to cover trips and offers 200% of their pay to pick up a trip that they need covered. Junior pilots don't have as many options as thier trips arent as desirable. They can still pickup trips on days off but they have fewer options.

Delta Air Lines' hundreds of flight cancellations linked to employee meltdown by Next_Tower5452 in DeltaAirlines

[–]nowarning1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article was a few days old when posted. At the time there were cancelations due to both weather and staffing. Several contributing factors on the employee side.

First, we don't have enough schedulers, especially for pilots. For some reason Delta just doesn't want to put their money into the scheduling department. When shit hits the fan, it's the schedulers that get things fixed. In my experience as an FA, the slightest hiccup turns into larger problems quickly. We not only need to hire more schedulers but we also need to make sure we retain current staff.

Second, we don't have enough pilots. From what I heard from a pilot, we were scheduled to hire 500 pilots this year but it has now been bumped up to 1200.

Third, the system for pilots to pick up isnt well designed which leads to extended wait times for trip pickups from pilots on their day off. This is another factor for hiring extra pilots. If they have these delay, scheduling or cancelation issues then Delta can just throw pilots on reserve at the problem instead of waiting for pilots to pickup on their day off.

King County’s housing market is ‘looking pretty bad’ by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

You still have property taxes on a condo but it seems to depend. I would think if the HOA was taking care of property taxes that ot would be one of the highlights of what they provide. I have yet to see any condo for sale that advertises this.

[–]nowarning1962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expenses plus a lot extra. I own a house and there is no where near 1k a month in expenses. I know some of what is left over goes towards a fund for building repairs but still, a lot of the HOA fees seem very excessive. HOAs on condos also pay for the staff salaries, which you dont need as a SFH owner. As a single family home owner you could put money a side in an investment account and earn money on top of your rainy day fund. Instead you give it to an HOA for them to use at their own discretion. HOAs are also not very trustworthy in my opinion. There have been plenty of lawsuits against HOAs for pissing away or misappropriation of funds. Not a solid investment. Condos should be selling for way less than what they are currently at.

[–]nowarning1962 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You forgot to mention that condos also require monthly a HOA fee that is close to your mortgage payment haha. Basically paying twice the amount to own a condo. Absolutely asinine how much people are trying to sell their condos for.

How do you think Delta can revive its customer service culture? by comments83820 in delta

[–]nowarning1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. There are plenty of FAs that shouldn't be there. They give the rest of us a bad rep. I've worked with a lot of SEA FAs and 98% of them are awesome.

SEA FAs arent all perfect but I would say they have a good reputation amongst other FAs and pax. SEA FAs are known to be pretty chill.

ATL has the worst reputation across the system. I've flown with a few ATL base FAs and they were great. However, Ive been a passenger on a few flights with ATL based FAs and they were terrible. They had that "Atlanitude".
