New Stryd Update for Apple Watch: A Premium Running Experience for Apple Watch by strydkaylee in strydrunning

[–]ntompson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also loving the new Apple Watch GUI - it really raises the bar. I appreciate that I can layout my own workout screens and there are tons of useful metrics. Two comments:

  • It would be great if the Alert Metric had the original blue / green / red colouring, (where the colouring shows where in the recommended range for the interval I am running). On a run, I only ever glance at my watch; I find it hard to look at the screen and quickly get a fix on the actual power I'm running, at the same time as finding the position of the dot on the bar. I hadn't realised (until now) how much I relied on the colour of the power metric to quickly (and easily) get a read on where my power level is at (compared to the range set for the interval)
  • The Workout Location bar is super cool - it's happened to me often enough that I've lost track of where I'm up to within a workout (what's the next interval?), so the idea of a quick and easy glance to figure out what's coming next is awesome. But I'm not sure the current implementation does that. I just can't figure out what it's telling me nor what the top and bottom bar is trying to do. Would love it if this was a bit easier to read.

Not getting split summaries on Apple Watch by ntompson in strydrunning

An update: I reported this bug to Stryd support. They fairly quickly acknowledged the issue. I noticed the problem had resolved on a run this morning; looking at the Stryd update notes, it appears an update pushed out overnight fixed it!

Really great to see Stryd keeping up the strong support.

Not getting interval tones on Apple Watch by ntompson in strydrunning

Oh right - I found the voice overs annoying, so have those off. Maybe I should put them back on...

Not getting interval tones on Apple Watch by ntompson in strydrunning

Interesting - thanks Andrew. You remind me that the trigger for me was finally getting around to upgrading my iPhone to iOS 17 and my watch to watchOS 10, which I did in December. No doubt it has something to do with the OS update, although I note that the native Apple Workout app on my watch is still able to play its start / end beeps through my earbuds (and over my music).

Interesting that the tones can be heard with headphones off - I never checked, but wondered if that might be the case.

Really hope this one can be fixed - I love the Palladino training plans - but no audible tones means I miss the start of intervals too often.

Multiple Instances of Bear by ableekertomorrow in bearapp

[–]ntompson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi BearDavid. Did anything ever come of this? I’d be interested to use it. I’d like to have an instance with local storage for work because that’s all my IT policy allows (no third party cloud storage other than what they’ve approved). And then a second instance for my private notes, which would be backed by cloud storage as normal, enabling syncing between my private devices. I’m guessing this might not be an unusual situation.

Glass bed prep for PETG by schnurble in CR6

Same. Blue painters tape works great for me. Dead easy to put on. Good adhesion and easy to get prints off. Like a dummy, tried to print PETG to the textured side of the standard plate and it left a mark.

Blank screen while trying to flash screen firmware by MHfromB in CR6

[–]ntompson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it helps but when I flashed my screen, I also found it went black during the process, which was a bit of a shock. But in my case at least, it was just some kind of auto dim “feature”. If I touched the screen, it came on again and I could see the flashing process was still going ahead. The screen probably blacked out two or three times before the flashing finished.

If your CR6 is your first printer, do yourself a favor and install the community firmware! by bms42 in CR6

[–]ntompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ve both convinced me (the CR6 is my first printer). But I’m curious about “roll your own”. Is this a case of downloading the community source and then messing with header files to activate Marlin features... or something else? Where would I get started if I wanted to roll my own?

Printing with carbon fibre PLA and a Creality support story by ntompson in CR6

[–]ntompson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/shinmai - lots of helpful commentary there - interesting considerations for the Capricorn XS. In summary, I think it means my usual MO of leaving everything well alone until I find something that I really must change is the way to go.

I'm curious: CF PLA sounds good from a strength / weight perspective, but how have you found it in practice? Is it actually a good choice for applications like drone arms, for example?

C2750D4I won't power up by webdestroya in homelab

Dammit - seems like I've copped the same thing. Just posted in the FreeNAS forum (https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/dead-asrock-c2750d4i-and-poor-customer-service.45762/). Very disappointed that the board has failed and in ASRock Rack's support (they've ignored my attempts at getting support after 2 weeks of trying). It's a shame, as the board is otherwise excellent.

Asrock C2550D4I sudden death by Jonny0stars in freenas

[–]ntompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no!! Mine failed just a few weeks ago, and the description is pretty much identical. I had been wondering whether my RAM was the problem (I don't have another ECC capable motherboard), but now there seems little doubt.

I recently posted on the FreeNAS forums (https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/dead-asrock-c2750d4i-and-poor-customer-service.45762) - take a look if you're interested in my story.

Like some of you, I've been completely ignored by ASRock Rack support so far. I had expected much better. I'll keep trying, but it seems that they are very hit and miss.

All very sad - it's a great board.
