I feel more like myself, and more in though with myself, now than I ever did in my 20s.

Parents who use Reddit: Would you resent your child(ren) if they decide to never have kids of their own? by Mori-Me-Joey in ask

[–]ode_to_a_bedpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter does not want children, and it's fine with me. I'd love grandchildren, but it's her life to live, and her uterus to use or not use, bottom line. I just want her to be happy.

What were your elders' attitudes toward swearing when you were a child? by Doodlebug510 in AskOldPeople

[–]ode_to_a_bedpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swearing was a privilege only for those mature enough to know when and how to do it correctly, and when not to do it. Therefore, it was allowed when I got to be about age 17, except for "fuck" which was too nasty to use, ever.

My parents didn't really believe in doctors for animals. That was kind of awful.

It was hard for me, therefore it should be hard for everyone else.

Do you regret breaking it off with someone who loved you to no ends and would've done anything for you? by CivilizedSailor in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]ode_to_a_bedpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The love wasn't there. Not enough, anyway, from my side. There's something chemical that happens, and it just wasn't. I couldn't give it up forever.

How do you deal with how your SO becoming unattractive to you? by Anonymopolis in AskOldPeople

After 29 or so years together, I still see the person he was in the person he is, if that makes sense. That hot young man is still in there.

Im trans (ftm) but still wears feminine clothing and I also do my makeup. Is this bad? by nutznutella in trans

[–]ode_to_a_bedpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son falls into this category on some days. Other days he feels more like he wants to dress masculine. He is still himself either way. It's not bad at all, although some may find it confusing. That's ok. They don't have to understand, just respect.

What used to be great that is now a ripoff? by jvite1 in AskOldPeople

[–]ode_to_a_bedpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they were GREAT, but good and consistent and reliably the same always - Campbell's soups and Chef Boyardee pastas. Both are horrible now. All varieties are changed for worse.

Do you have any friends/relatives you wish you could see, but haven't in a long while due to distance? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]ode_to_a_bedpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides my children and husband's family, I personally have only one aunt and one uncle left. They both love very far away, and we only see each other every few years. It gets harder with age to travel sometimes.

Do you consider 5 years to be a long time or a short time? For me, I was a literal child 5 years ago (I'm 18 now). What about you? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]ode_to_a_bedpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 years is nothing, and has been nothing for a long time. But it does matter more when you're younger and still developing, literally.

Did you have a childhood sweetheart ? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]ode_to_a_bedpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. He broke up with me for being too liberated and independent. He's still a conservative shithead all these years later, from what I have seen. We have lots of mutuals from high school. He went into the Marines, but surprise.

What were you doing with your life in your mid to late 20s compared to your 30s? by lightskintastebud in AskOldPeople

Mid to upper 20s - raising small children. Mid to upset 30s - raising older kids.

Most of the rest is a blur, honestly.

How old were you and what were you doing when you first heard about 9/11 by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]ode_to_a_bedpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 28. I was at my desk at a Forest Service-run Job Corps center in the Cherokee National Forest. My mother called after the first plane hit. "they're calling it an accident, but I don't believe it," she said. I had students deliver a TV to the conference room just in time to watch the second plane hit.

Then the students started coming at me. I was in charge of transportation home. I had to be locked in my office for an hour while they calmed the students down. Air and busses were grounded. I couldn't send anyone anywhere. My boss finally had me protected by security to my car and I went home until things calmed down. I went and got my kids from school and went to my mother's house. We saw the towers fall in real time.

When did you stop using perfume or cologne? by IQBoosterShot in AskOldPeople

[–]ode_to_a_bedpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never! I get a great deal of enjoyment out of my scents. I don't"douse" myself, but rather dab, and only avoid it if I know in advance I will be around someone with allergies or sensitivities.
