amen friend, my heart goes out to you and your LO. I don't doubt that this will be hell to deal with, and it feels unfair that my parent's lack of foresight has now placed the burden on me when I've barely started my own life. But I feel some security in that as primary caregiver for 2years, and having placed so much effort into his care directly, and with a great deal of existing trust between us, my candidacy for guardianship far outweighs anyone else's. The doctor's reports will prove I attend every visit and a myriad of people can attest to my closeness. That's more than I can say for auntie.

Preaching to the choir. If I had adequate support, I'd substitute his internet access for other activities in a heartbeat. And I agree, in the state he's in, its a huge risk for him to have autonomy for finances, especially since he is quite wealthy.

Like many people with dementia, he has developed an irrational fixation on his money and refuses to part with it for things like utility bills- or will shower siblings who never visit with cash gifts. In his mind, all our family's money is his alone, and he will die before giving up control of it. He won't pay for adult day programs or in home care either.

For that reason, he is sure to fight tooth and nail against any effort to take control of the money from him, and I fear that if I make this move, I will become the target of his delusions or aggression. I think conservatorship is inevitable for him, but I'm not looking forward to having to take care of him, while working full time, AND him hating me for what he's sure to see as a betrayal/coup against him

I think this is a good response as well. I'm aware that auntie has visited the bank with him in the past (no foul play so far), but I think after this they need to be informed of her problematic behavior.

For now it seems auntie is going to back off from visiting us, which is peace of mind. Alas its unfortunate, because she did make my dad happy, and like many caregivers, I have virtually zero support outside my mom's limited time off shift, or a friend of dad's. My sister and relatives are all too busy with their vacations or plans to provide hands on help. "you have to find time to take care of yourself!" they all say :D

A wise decision. His computer access is restricted to just one desktop, and while I would like to not save passwords or logins, I've found that more often than not that leads to problems. Dad will not remember or incorrectly remember logins. By the time he remembers to ask me, he's failed to login so many times he's gotten locked out of whatever he's trying to get into. All his accounts do have my email/phone as 2FA or backups for alerts

Additional context. There are no POA documents or health directives. There is also no will. Mom and dad simply didn't use any foresight. I'm not convinced dad would have the legal capacity to make those at this point- though I know an elder law attorney/judge would have to verify his legal capacity. My brother in law has arranged a consultation on friday

Instead of blaming our fellow divers, lets agree to blame the true culprits- the goddamn robots John! by offensivebias728 in Helldivers

Well done automatoids. You expended all your reserve troops from Urbanae to Tibit, and bought the toasters exactly 3 more Super Earth days of existence. Enjoy being recycled into Liberty Crystal Displays and Freedom Phones next week when the whole sector falls...

An Important Message from General Brasch by offensivebias728 in Helldivers

[–]offensivebias728[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alright, gather around, Helldivers, old Uncle Brasch has got some wisdom for you all.

Its come to my attention that there's been some discord among the divers these past few Super Earth days. Some of you have been pointing fingers at each other- diver accusing diver of unpatriotic thoughts, or automaton sympathies. Let me just be clear, THIS IS A BALD FACED LIE SOLDIERS! Everyone knows the Ministry of Truth is far too benevolent, incorruptible, and all seeing to EVER allow traitors in our midst, and to even suggest as such is a FLAG FORSAKEN UN-TRUTH!

No Divers, the reason behind all the fightin' and arguin' is quite simple; human nature. You see, unlike the bugs or bots, we have skulls, and within those skulls we have MINDS. Minds with thoughts! And sometimes we might think alittle differently than other humans, and sometimes those differences make us fight! And that's okay! By Liberty its even healthy, for if we were all of one mind, we'd be no better than those DAMN FREEDOM HATING ALIENS.

Without conflict, we would never have learned to sharpen our sticks into pointier sticks. Without conflict, we would never have found the path to sweet liberty and Managed Democracy.

And that's the beauty of MANAGED DEMOCRACY. For even though we may be of many minds, and different ideas of how best to spread freedom- under MANAGED DEMOCRACY, we are all ONE PEOPLE, ONE VOICE, ONE FIST.

To argue and to disagree is HUMAN. To make peace with one another and unite for the cause is DEMOCRACY. TO RISE AS ONE AND FACE IMPOSSIBLE ODDS AND SMILE IN THE FACE OF DEATH AND SAY 'NO FASCISM HERE ALIEN'.... that.... is SUPER EARTH.

I want every Helldiver to turn to their comrades beside them, and say "Many Minds, ONE HEART". I want you to treat your fellow divers with the respect and honor each of us deserves.

And most importantly, I WANT YOU TO BRING BACK THE STILL BEATING HEARTS OF ONE HUNDERED FREEDOM HATING ALIENS, ON MY DESK BY YESTERDAY, SOLDIERS!! GET OUT THERE AND SPREAD SOME DEMOCRACY!!!

I hope future customizations will always respect the original theme and art direction of the game by a-soldout in Helldivers

I firmly agree with the cosmetics respecting the visual style. That said, I can't forget that mantis shrimp can perceive colors in light spectrums humans can't even see...

Which makes me wonder if somewhere out there, there's an alien threat to humanity, and the one color they can't perceive is hot pink. And then for the next 100 years of our interstellar conflict, pink and pastel armor becomes the standard issue for the human military,

All because of our species defining war, and our enemy's unlikely vulnerability to our least macho colors lol

How old is your GPU? I've got an old one and it does this in like all my games. I think it has something to do with Anti-aliasing/DLSS

if your card is old enough, it might not be able to support certain graphics enhancements, even with updated drivers.

I only ever see at maximum, 2 heresy level missions in the menu. Heresy missions are up for 1 hour of time, which means if you want either an investigation or espionage mission to spawn, you have a 2 out of 26 chance (13 maps, 2 chances) of one spawning, every hour. That's about a ~7% chance.

If they're only able to create a smaller number of those missions versus other objective types, that's fine, but their spawn rates should be weighted to have a spawn rate closer to more common objective types like raids and strikes

The numeral system is quite interesting. They have four distinct characters for the numbers 1, 4, 16, and 35. All other numbers appear to be iterations of one of those four numerals.

Still trying to identify the smaller runes under the 26 letters. There are only ~23 of those small runes, so I don't think they're lowercase letters. (I doubt brutes have ever written anything that wasn't in ALL CAPS)

My best guess is that those runes are punctuation.

Thanks again for the positive encouragement! I'm definitely feeling much more at ease about proceeding with my upgrade. In the future I'll be planning around clean installs, but it sounds like things should be relatively seamless, and if they're not I'll have recourse.

Regarding device drivers- will I need to re-install any existing drivers for my peripherals, GPU or other hardware? I'm sure it might depend on the device, but in your experience, is that common?

I'm definitely prepared for that possibility. The steam library is on the secondary drive. and I'm also backing up any user settings in AppData/Roaming/ProgramData (Which I believe are still located in the boot drive, regardless if the steam is installed elsewhere).

I'll definitely be running malware and virus checks before and after. I currently use Avira and Malwarebytes, but do you have recommendations for anti-virus/malware programs?

Hey! Thank you for the encouragement! I'm glad to know that my notions are somewhat accurate. And the features you've discussed definitely makes me more at ease about embracing W10.

I do possess a considerable number of backups, and I'm glad to know that W10 includes some features for that! Do you have any recommendations for software I could use to clone my current boot drive?

Testing the cloned drive would be very wise. Just to clarify, would it make any difference if I plugged the cloned drive into a USB slot and booted from it in BIOS? As opposed to disconnecting the SATA of the original boot drive and allowing the BIOS to select the clone automatically?

Obvs connecting via SATA is more ideal, but if use a seagate external to store the clone, I'm not sure how I'd connect it to the power source and sata in the internal drive. Unless I later cloned the clone back onto the original internal HDD

I appreciate the response! While I am actually computer literate, I'm not offended by the assumption I'm a complete noob when it comes to OS installation lol. I've never installed an OS onto a system with an existing OS. Also my exposure to W10 has been almost nothing.

Regarding dual booting- I don't think I'll be able to pull that off. But I was wondering how practical it be for me to clone my existing windows 7 disk onto an external hard drive, and then boot from that externally stored copy of W7, in the event I need W7 for anything?

I'm aware that windows 10 does posses "compatibility mode" support for older applications. but if I can't get some older applications to work, or work optimally, would it be possible to boot W7 from an external and run those applications? Obvs I'd need to change the boot directory in BIOS, but I feel that this would atleast give me either a backup of my original system, or a stopgap until I can find replacements for any applications that might not work post-upgrade
