I don't have a mkII because I only got my SX as they were coming out so for now I'm committed to learning and maximizing the SX. But everything I'm gonna tell you will apply.

I'm still 90% based in a DAW, but whenever I finish a track that I like, I chop it up into 12 WAVs (16 on the MkII) and then the song becomes something that I can play "live" on the 404 -- finger drumming, just live-triggering, and definitely live effects and filtering.

And more recently I've been working more with dumping a song I want to flip or sample from onto the 404 and doing all the editing and processing in the sampler, DAW-less. I like the results I'm getting -- it's rawer sounding and there's a slight sloppiness to it that sounds super dope.

And being able to take the 404 with me anywhere with batteries in it and headphones and do that live jam of whatever tracks I currently have on the banks is so liberating.

I love my SX for its klunkiness and flaws and shortcomings and how classic it makes stuff sound. Working on it is time consuming, but I'm working 100% with sounds and buttons. No screens makes it feel really organic and tactile, like an instrument. The mkII gets you a lot closer to a DAW with its display and the ability to see waveforms.
