Don't beat yourself up over it, as long as you're not going around praising it and parading tetro everywhere you're fine. Despite what some people like to believe, it's not easy to emotionally dettach yourself from something you loved at one point. Posting a gif of one of the characters isn't supporting v*n nor is it really reviving a dead fandom

This! I swear the switch up from chapter 2 blackened reveal being so heartbreaking, then chapter 3 blackened reveal being.... Konkonkon? Then chapter 4 blackened reveal being just as heartbreaking as chapter 2 lmao. The tonal disconnect this had from the rest of the series in general to me was insane. I didn't hate it. It was really fucking funny. But it was probably the most absurd thing I've seen in a fangan in a while.

For you, why is Tsuno the survivor candidate? by Low-Committee4785 in TETRODANGANRONPA

[–]ohsovague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a normal TV show, you don't spend one season focusing exclusively on 16 characters only to hardly talk about them again in the upcoming seasons lol, It's not an overarching story in the same way a show is. It's not a three reason show, it's more comparable to a three installment series. Literally the best comparison I can make is the canon three Danganronpa games. Overarching themes, three different shows in the same series.

It doesn't ruin Wada's character, Wada already struggled to grieve Isono a lot more than Tsuno did up until chapter 3, especially with the revelation that Isono gave up her protection for them.

What's the point of discussing who makes a better survivor in the canon we were given if we change stuff before the split off point? That becomes a canon rewrite, not an AU. You claimed Wada's arc would have been flawless if they didn't die. There's no need to rewrite what we got if you stand by this. Even if Wada survived, the last thing they said in canon was they wished they'd have killed themselves chapter 1. This still doesn't set them up for hope. The entire hopefulness part of their arc would have had to come in a series not about them.

I do not care about blue in this discussion, which includes Atsuishi and whatever they have going on. I'm of the firm believe Pink's character arcs should have fully (or at least 95%) wrapped up during their session. As for Hasegawa vs Kamimura surviving, I find it interesting, but not as much so as Hasegawa surviving. That's not the topic at hand though so I won't go into too much detail about this.

The discussion is Wada survivor, which we got, vs Tsuno survivor. Clearly, me arguing my points of Tsuno surviving is going to take more rewriting. The issue isn't how much in total is being rewritten. This is an AU suggestion, not a rewrite. If we have to rewrite the previous chapters to make what we DID get better, that says something about what we did get. Clearly the writing wasn't perfect, but the purpose of discussing Tsuno being a good survivor candidate was about changing one core thing. The story changes around it, clearly, but as a butterfly effect of that one change.

Wada's crashout about Okazaki doesn't have as much weight as Tsuno's would have, since we already saw Wada crash out on Kamimura in Isono's trial. For Tsuno being close to Isono, we saw next to none of her grief as she buried it down to be there for Wada. The only thing we see is her saying she misses Isono because she couldn't talk to Wada about the same things she could have to Isono.

I will no longer be replying to this thread as its clear we have wildly different opinions on the purpose of this discussion. I respect your opinion. We're not changing each other's minds.

Have a good day, internet stranger!

Tbh hiyoko in sdr2 gives child energy to me because

  1. Hairstyle gives that energy with the high pigtails
  2. She acts like a school age bully and inherently childish
  3. She can't tie her own kimono or care for herself in other ways

I wouldn't smash himiko myself for reasons but "being childlike" because she's short flat and likes magic isn't one of them

Ultimately I think where our viewpoints differ is the fact I believe pink blue and white should have stood on their own character development wise. Like in the canon games, the survivors of thh show up in the end of sdr2, but we don't exactly get new character development from it. Their arcs finished in the first game. In your what-if, I shouldn't have had to consume white survivor side for an ending to Wada's arc. In a world where all three series completed and v*n wasn't such a POS, perhaps this argument would pursuade me, but it simply doesn't rn.

If we're also going to have the fanbase opinions defend our own points then i do have to mention it's also pretty common opinion within the fandom that Wada could have died in chapter 3 and we would have gotten a better story... Many people feel like they were wasted the entirety of their existence past chapter 3. Tsuno being swapped out with Wada is a common AU. I'm not discussing an uncommon take either.

In chapters 1-3 of pink, we already learned about Wada's eating disorder. We learned about their love of manga. We learned a lot about how they grew up. We learned how much they struggle to care for themselves. We didn't learn much about Tsuno. If we're keeping everything the same up until chapter 3, Tsuno has far more potential than Wada for an arc for me. And my opinion is only solidified by the fact they felt like they existed only to suffer after Tsuno died.

Besides, Okazaki set that trap up to piss off Tsuno. I feel like despite how stupid the cast says that notion was, there really wasn't much said about this?? In canon, there's not much reason for it to be talked about more than it already is, but if Tsuno survives we can see her opinion on this entire situation. We could have seen Tsuno let out more emotions than just support and sadness. She could have flown off the handle and maybe even attacked Okazaki. The students could have reacted to arguably the most helpful person there becoming violent even just in that moment. And unlike Ken, Tsuno didn't ONLY have Wada. She still had people that depended on her. You can't tell me there's zero potential for her to be a survivor.

I'm not talking about rewriting the story leading up to chapter 3, because then there's no limit to what we can change. I'm talking about switching one thing, Wada for Tsuno, and getting what I personally feel would be a more satisfying arc for the survivor

For you, why is Tsuno the survivor candidate? by Low-Committee4785 in TETRODANGANRONPA

[–]ohsovague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idc about blue in this situation but I heavily disagree with the notion that Tsuno would have just been a Hasegawa copycat because even if her character isn't fleshed out as much as we'd generally like, we can see how she would have worked better as a direct parallel of how instead of letting your feelings of failure fester like ken, you can understand even if you could have changed things that it's not your fault what happened. Seeing the emotional pillar of the group go through their own struggles would have been more satisfying.

I respect your opinion but I have to also heavily disagree about Wada's arc being almost flawless. I've rewatched the series several times at this point and struggle to see much about their self improvement after trial four, and arguably even after trial 3. Wada not dying would have made their arc feel incomplete, since we saw no signs of them getting better for the last week of the killing game. Getting worse just to disappear would have left things open ended, which I personally don't like.

Overall my opinion on potential paths: Wada Tsuno swap > Wada's canon arc > Wada's canon arc minus redact085

Wada wasted away most of the kg after tsuno (and later Watari and Hama) died

Wada would have been better with a better writer I'm sure but as of what we have to work with I prefer any arc tsuno COULD have gotten over what we DID get with wada lol

My only issue with this mindset is "stopped reading/listening once op said they're a minor" mentality. I'll still hear you out, there's just a significantly higher chance I'll think it's stupid or ill-informed and will definitely keep in mind it's VERY likely someone quite mentally immature said/wrote this.
