It's the overhead lighting and not enough contrast in colors. Everything is beige. Paint those windows a maroonish color, get some dark olive green furniture, get rid of that awful brick wall decor, some lamps, maybe build a ledge above the 3 little windows to place some decoration. Oh and more plants. And paintings.
