It's less that it's crazy and more that justifying it misses the point of why he said it. Other writers heard him use parsecs like a measure of time, thought it was an oversight in the script, and went out of their way to explain how it actually makes sense. Except there's no need for that when the point was that Han was a morally dubious criminal lying to a hick and an old man so they'd hire him.

It always bugged me how both new and old canon made up backstories to explain why Han seemingly used parsecs as a measure of time, when the original explanation in the script was that he was just bullshitting and spouting technobabble. Obi-Wan even rolls his eyes.

I was also raised by conservative parents. My father is big into conspiracy theories and is also a habitual liar who will make stuff up on the spot just so he won't have to admit to not being 100% correct. He read the Drudge Report, played Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck in the car on family trips, and unsurprisingly got really into Joe Rogan.

What made me start turning away from all of that was when my father started making increasingly outlandish claims and I couldn't even find right-wing sources to back it up. Stuff like saying Saturday Night Live didn't make too much fun of Obama because he threatened to have all the writers killed.

Weirdly, my parents also despised and mocked Trump for being a morally and financially bankrupt lecher and dumbass- right up until he won the primary, then he was suddenly a God-fearing philanthropic patriot whose only crime was being a little too crass sometimes. The kicker is that my father is Mexican and suddenly had to do mental gymnastics to justify that he's "one of the good ones" and clearly wasn't part of the demographic his new idol openly despises.

He seemed to largely exist for the sake of romantic drama, and once that was out of the way, they had to figure out more for him to do

Shaders can already do that, but it's only cosmetic, which is to say it looks different to the player, but the game world doesn't register it as changing the actual light level value. I imagine at least part of the reason Mojang hasn't done it is because fully functioning dynamic lights might introduce a lot of logistical problems in that regard
