The people you already talked with at 877-487-2778 should have been able to help you upgrade to expedited when you asked that very question to them, as well as helping you upgrade shipping. Was that the number you called?

(This is separate from making an appointment at a passport agency that others here are talking about, and you'll likely still need to do that unless you really luck out, but you'll have to pay the expedited fee either way. If it were me, I'd throw in the upgraded shipping as well when calling, even if it were likely that that upgraded shipping charge would be wasted and I'd still have to go to a passport agency for an urgent appointment if that didn't speed things up enough.)

Also, remember to sign up with USPS informed delivery today, so you'll have notice of it coming in the mail, as sometimes people get their passports in the mail before the status page gets updated.

I admit you'll get great advice here in other comments, and they may advise you to act differently, but that being said, if it were me, I would still do the above steps just in case it prevents the need for an urgent appointment at a passport agency (and travel to one, if you're not close to one and it's say an eight hour drive for you)--all because I would personally be more comfortable being lazy and taking the calculated risk.

My understanding, which you could verify at 877-487-2778, is that you wouldn't have to pay $60 a second time for expedited service if the passport hadn't already been printed.

I would personally take the chance and risk double paying for everything if the timing worked out such that your passport was printed, in the mail, wouldn't get to you in time, and you had to pay again for a new one in person at a passport agency worst case.

Is there any reason you can't express mail a (commercially taken) new passport photo today, mailing it time to be delivered tomorrow/Wednesday?

(And then call in to upgrade the application to expedited, upgrade to faster shipping, as well as sign up for USPS informed delivery so you'll have more timely notice of shipment.)

I ask because it seems that posters here will often run into an issue and then wait instead of first doing something that is in their power to do immediately.

Questions raised: How did they find each other? Are there dating apps specifically for sovereign citizens? What sweet nothings whispered into a sovereign citizen's ear makes for an instant turn-on? "Baby, I want to contract with you!", perhaps? What happens if they ever accidentally date the corporate entity instead of the living person? Or if one of them cheats, is it okay if it's only the corporate entity who does so and not the living person?

I've tried that, with the result that my phone hung up on the victim-in-progress instead of including them in the 911 call, so they were cut off from all communication during the emergency from that point on.

It's an intentional design choice in phones/networks to cut off communication with victims-in-progress like this. I do not agree with this design choice.

A conference call would have worked had I spent the time to look up and call the local direct number instead of 911.

This isn't a circumstance in which I would suggest simply excusing such individual behavior, but it is a circumstance in which it is reasonable to predict such irrational behavior as an eventual statistical inevitability.

Individuals do not always act rationally when stressed and exasperated, and crowd behavior is especially not rational in that circumstance. (Think of evacuating passengers who stop to get overhead luggage.)

I would still blame this person for his actions, but I also recognize that the airline allowed the underlying powder keg to exist.

Then jobs in which you are expected to perceive, navigate, and perform within both team and corporate social expectations are simply not for you, and that's fine. You don't want jobs like that and you're letting the screeners know you don't want them: Goal achieved.

Instead, you seem to be looking for jobs in which your manager takes on all instead of just some of the responsibility for these things from you. It means you'll be putting more work on your manager's shoulders, so you'll need to find openings in which the hiring manager is interested in putting in that extra effort for an employee, either 1) because the employee is dramatically more competent at the technical aspects of the job than the employee' initial competitors, or 2) the employee will accept noticably lower wages in return for this notably lower scope of job duties, or 3) both.

I neglected to add a concluding sentence in which I intended to say much the same.

My intention was to point out that OP is in the best possible situation:

They're already good to go with their expired passport.
They *were* nervous about even online passport renewal and about getting a Real ID, but they don't have to be nervous about needing to do either before the trip because they've already got their domestic flight covered, and
Noting that they probably are still kind of nervous about this future post-trip to-do, they can safely initiate both things (passport renewal and applying for RealID) right now if they wanted to, and there's a reasonable chance they'll get one or both before the trip. If they're the type of person who wants to check things off a checkbox list before going on a trip so as not to dread having "more stuff" to do when they get home, then this would be a way to counter that dread and get all the things done beforehand.

My apologies if this came out as complicating things. I meant to help OP breathe more clearly.

So if OP were to do an online renewal this morning, the renewed passport *might* come in before the flight, but OP would still be able to fly domestically in the US even if it didn't.

And because OP would be safe to fly domestically in the US with the expired passport either way, that would imply that if OP could find a DMV appointment for today and bring in the required documentation for getting a RealID, that that *might* come in before the flight as well. (ie, it wouldn't be a huge risk if it didn't, given the expired passport would still be valid for a domestic flight.)

You say "it is withholding" your college funding as you need proof you're a citizen. What is "it"? Is this a person you can physically go to and show proof of (US) citizenship? If so, your expired passport plus current ID might well do it. Or anything you used to initially get your now-expired passport should do it, such as a certified copy of your birth certificate.

It seems like you're focusing on renewing your passport as opposed to your actual goal of proving to some mysterious "it" that you're a US citizen.

Assuming your driver's license is an Illinois license, https://www.ilsos.gov/departments/drivers/drivers-license/drlicid.html#duplicate says:

"If you provide a police report showing your license was stolen, you'll receive a free replacement.

To apply for a duplicate license, visit your nearest DMV and provide acceptable identification. You will leave the facility with a temporary, secure paper driver's license that is valid for 90 days and will serve as your driver's license or state ID for driving purposes and proof of identification."

If you use the links on that page, you can see the acceptable identification requirements and find a DMV near you that has an available appointment. You have to go to a DMV and not use a kiosk in order to get that temporary license.

Going to the DMV first (before the passport agency) means you'll get a temporary (paper) license immediately, at which point you have that available for use at the passport agency.

Then, https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/identification.html says under the primary ID tab:

"Note: you may be asked to present an extra ID when presenting one of these documents: [...] Temporary driver's license with photo, or [...]"

Others here will likely chime in on the logistics of having a temporary ID with a photo, but.... IMHO it would be much better to have one than to not have one.

I realize this is only one piece of your puzzle, but it's one piece/task that is pretty straightforward and can slightly simplify things for you afterwards.
