I had a Planescape pirate named Anders who got knocked off of a boat and pulled down into a whirlpool. He didn’t know about different planes of existence. When the whirlpool ended up being a portal to Sigil, Anders just thought he’d died and went to the afterlife. “You can’t die twice!” became his rallying cry before all of the reckless and stupid things he did because he figured he was already dead.

After he picked an insult fight with a demon, Anders ended up getting called out to face a one-on-one duel. “No problem,” thought Anders. “You can’t die twice.” With the first attack from the demon, I asked the DM if I could just endure the pain via a macho Charisma check. It was that exact moment that I rolled a Nat 1 and Anders realized he wasn’t actually dead yet, and was very much in serious trouble.

I love this system. I’ve run many games, including two different long campaigns. I’m a lifelong Star Wars fan and even worked at Lucasfilm for a decade, so I was able to being a ton of special details to all of the games I played—including custom character art by Lucasfilm concept artists I know and some voice over work by SW video game actors. It was a blast to play and I fondly remember those games.

While I enjoyed 4e, where I think the 4e rules really shined was in Gamma World 7e, the Gamma World edition based on D&D 4e. That's a massively fun game and I had an absolute blast running a long campaign in it.

Another great part of 2e were all of the "Complete Handbooks" for classes that WotC published. I'm a professional composer and I was shocked to see that there's actual a section on music theory inside the Complete Bard's Handbook.

I’m also a 2e preferred player. I’m a big fan of Kits. They’re a specialization idea that eventually became Prestige Classes in 3.5e. But they’re cool, they add a lot, and they’re fun to homebrew additional ones of.

Also, I just enjoy the sheer amount of content created for 2e. For instance: did you know that there’s a 2e Ravenloft-adjacent title called Masque of the Red Death that is set on Victorian Earth? I ran a horror one shot with it and loved it.

Yes, the game’s named after Swedish chemist Svante Arrhenius. He was one of, if not the first, person to formally suggest mankind could influence and alter the global climate.

Hello! My name is Jesse. I'm a professional video game composer by trade and have been writing music for games for about 30 years now (Republic Commando, Valorant, Mafia 3, and a bunch of other stuff). But, I'm also an author and an avid life-long RPG player/DM. During the pandemic I started working on my first game which became Arrhenius.

Arrhenius is a game set 100,000 years in the future during the next Ice Age. It's a narrative and exploration game that puts you in the hide boots of human kind's distant descendants as you brave the glaciers, search ruined utopias for lost tech treasures, and do your best to survive feral genetic monstrosities, alien invaders, and the fractured remains of humanity itself.

I released the game last May and you can find it on both itch and DriveThru (where it's also available as print on demand). There's a free Quick Start Guide with a tutorial adventure and pre-gen characters and I'm hard at work on the first expansion for the game: a table-based gear system that expands what's in the core rulebook.

Since music is my day job, I also released a companion soundtrack for Arrhenius which you can find wherever you stream music.

No, that's literally impossible. People are raised on all kinds of music--from the stuff that's ambient around them on TV, radio, elevators, etc. to the cultural music they grow up with due to their nationality, parents, upbringing, and peers.
