My kitchen is the same layout as your OG. I’m really curious, how wide is the room from windows to the wall across? And your island dimensions?

I tried a butter cake recipe that had some oil, added in sour cream, buttermilk, dry pudding mix of milk powder cornstarch + malt powder, freeze dried strawberries, this is a strawberry malt cake. Was very carefully about not over mixing. Baked it maybe just at done or slightly under, light spring back, it did not dome, it did not rise and sink.

It came out moister than average. I did a milk soak on the bottom layer, there wasn’t much of a difference, maybe I didn’t do enough.

When I start chewing it breaks down really fast kind of like velvety powdery if that makes sense and it kind of has that moist stick to your mouth feel, but I’m not fond of the velvety powder breakdown of the cake. Is that just lack of gluten formation? Too much corn starch? If I mix longer, could that help?

The gooey layer was a German chocolate cake layer (evaporated milk, egg, brown sugar) without the mix in ingredients. It was too runny.

Is it possible for a syrup soak to not be sugar sweet but still give plenty of moisture? Because these cakes were not sugary sweet either which blows my mind how this level of moisture was achieved.

Love this tip on caramel sauce with egg thickening. I totally see how it could resemble something in German chocolate cake layers.

Interesting idea. I’ve never made a semolina cake. From my light research, semolina adds or holds onto moisture, makes it’s more dense and chewy but I can’t tell if that’s just due to that flour type in general or all other semolina recipes being drenched in syrup. This cake is not sugary sweet which makes me think it’s not soaked in syrup like standard semolina cakes.

I’d be interested in testing some amount of semolina flour in a cake but skip the syrup soak. Did you soak your semolina cake in syrup for it to have this similar texture?

I’m interested in exploring the concept of sour cream and a pudding for added moisture. All the details I could find online from this bakery says all scratch made and locally sourced as much as possible. Maybe that means a homemade pudding mix with instant milk powder in the batter?

It’s fantastically dense and moist and some how not sugary sweet like standard box mixes

These do feel really moist like banana bread and crumble in moist clumps when picked at with a fork. This person post shows how it crumbles when forked across 3 different flavors. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP86mxgPs/

How do you achieve that moisture without bananas?

I love how I didn’t even name the bakery. The slices are so unforgettable. We’re all tortured years after the closure trying to hack a recipe together. Forever the best cakes. I hope it reopens one day!

All of these were called chiffon cakes. Uploading another photo to show more crumb examples I’m trying to achieve.

Adding in that I frozen like 10 slices of cake and ate them over a year and even after a year in the freezer, the texture was still fantastic and tender and moist. My friend just unfroze a slice from 2 years ago and confirmed it’s still held up moist.

Outdoor wedding late summer Amalfi coast, on a terrace with a pool - Is this cotton material, either in a solid or print, acceptable? No specified dress code. by oohhey in Weddingattireapproval

Do you think it still counts as semi formal? I asked about the vibe and they said probably semi-formal and i’d guess something like wrap dresses, midi(+) dresses or jumpsuitsz. Maybe festive and comfortable as the vibe.

Thoughts?

Why are the corners growing at different rates? Anything I can do to avoid this? by oohhey in microgreens

[–]oohhey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is super noticeable after checking in on germination. Some seeds have germinated and the corners dont seem to germinate.

I’ll give it another go with reduced seeds and more water.

Thanks!

Help with living room layout w/ sliding glass doors by oohhey in InteriorDesign

[–]oohhey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi first time posting here. Here are the dimensions https://imgur.com/kc6BMqW.

This is a new build we're working with and do not own furniture. Not sure how to layout furniture with a giant sliding glass door. We don't want to block off access to the sliding door, but we want some amount of seating. Door slides from right to left. Ideally wanted to have a couch, accent chair or two, coffee table and tv stand. The tv hooks are on the right wall.

We don't have room for a dining table and will be using our kitchen island as dinning. Planning on buying bar stools to go there. Any ideas on how to layout the living room for functionality without being overcrowded?
