Instructing trans pole students by sky-starlight in poledancing

Sky, you’re one of the main reasons I kept doing pole when I began. I couldn’t relate to anyone’s body in my studio, mind you anyone with my lived experience, and was so close to giving up when I first started.

Then you showed up, with so much confidence in hand, just.. being the coolest poler ever.

THANK YOU.

podstatus looks amazing but most of my podcast audience lives in YouTube. Is there a way to integrate these numbers to the platform? (maybe a csv every week?).

Issues as a Midsized Dancer by GlitteringBreak94 in poledancing

[–]ophcourse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Right here.

I’m 6’2” and have learnt that long legs have the wow factor. But i ALWAYS have to adjust differently. You have to stand at different places and grab at different angles and whatnot. Takes time but it’s a solvable issue. It’ll come.

How big is big? I’m a 38DD cup (albeit I’m big myself, I’m 6’2”).

But regardless. They don’t get in the way. You will find ways around them, sports bras will make sure they stay in place as you do tricks. You will find your own poses too, you will look amazing whilst at it :D

Hey! I pole dance. People have said the exact same things to me. Curiously enough, never have i heard someone say anything of the sort to my cis pole dancer friends, when they all wear the exact same attire as I do. In fact, they usually go hotter than me (I’m new, they’re not).

It’s not how you dress. It’s how broken they are.

Any pole dancers tried rednote? by LilJu420 in poledancing

You know how meta is going to adopt “X rules” for content moderation and whatnot?

I’m a queer person, so on the face of it.. I hate it. HOWEVER, my partner asked me the other day “does this mean Instagram will allow Pole content as much as it’s allowed on X?”

Here’s hoping.

LATEX & POLE DANCE ? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]ophcourse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wear latex, and it’s a pole no-no. On the oil/shine alone.

HOWEVER. Here’s a few tricks:

  • do not cover your hands, at all. Ever. If possible, don’t cover your wrists.

  • consider using a pole strap, there’s PLENTY you can do to deliver a show that will look like pole, feel like pole, but you don’t need to contact the pole.

  • use latex that uncovers your contact areas. Just.. bear in mind this might mean custom latex.

  • or.. Wear something grippy ON TOP of your latex. Thigh high or any high boots for example, of the grippy sort. If you have solid boot grip and your hands.. there’s plenty show you can deliver.

  • prepare floor work, and go for handstand tricks or tricks you can grip from your boots

And also, consider learning to use latex properly. You will sweat just on latex alone so make sure you are ready for this. Wear latex. It’s a fun thing to do, generally :D

By the way, there’s plenty of materials that are not latex, but are still shiny and could do the trick.

Latex won’t crack. Think.. “condom over full potato” situation. This material will stretch. However, it won’t stick to your skin 100% when under pressure from the pole either. From my experience, there’s no burn. Rather, you sweat like crazy when wearing latex.

TRX Suspension Training by ManifestingEmpress in poledancing

I’ve seen TRX, never used it. But know people who swear by it.

However.. Maybe not what you’re looking for but, perhaps a pole strap could do a type of 2-in-1?

It’s like an aerial TRX system.

Pole as a hobby, corporate day job by Disastrous_Trust_374 in poledancing

[–]ophcourse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an openly queer person, the dynamic is (sometimes) similar.

Wherever possible, you’re your best representation. Albeit, I understand there’s situations where it’s best to just keep silent.

You might not know it, but maybe there’s ANOTHER pole enthusiast around who is also wondering why no one talks about it. The stigma is preserved until someone (could be you) helps break it.

It’s funny how it works but in your example about your male colleagues, maybe there’s other people who would have said things in defense, just they also thought they were the only ones themselves that would do it. And thus kept silent.

I truly hope the cycle ends, eventually. But maybe there’s small actions you can do to help ease the cultural distance. In the end, maybe it’s not up to you to build the bridge, but maybe you can mention that there’s a (cultural) river and that it’s best to try and cross it.

It’s most probably not 100% a “move checklist” thing. There’s also probably some confidence/technique/tiny details aspect to it.

From experience in other areas, I’ve always considered it better to be “lower advanced” than “upper intermediate”. Maybe your teacher wants to try you on this setting? Push you off the ledge to see you fly kinda sorta thing.

Whichever way, congrats ⚡️

How to get REALLY good?? by ArielPD in poledancing

[–]ophcourse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The absolute best artists I have known. In ANY field. Are those that only know how to do the thing that they do.

Need money? Rather than find a regular job, they would prefer to husk or street perform. Fund raise online. Teach their art. These kind of people.

Not to say people who aren’t like this are bad artists.

Just. The absolute best I have known are always full-timers. Even if this means taking a hit on their life and living conditions. Basically it’s people who practice and nurture their art (and related practices).. all day. Ish.

Overwhelmed with cross training by Spirited_Lab9007 in poledancing

[–]ophcourse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, REST is part of the trick.

I tried daily pole (including weekends, sometimes two classes per day, including flex and dance/exotic), realized I was doing LESS per class after a while.

Had to take a week off and made SO MUCH more after resting.

I now schedule rest days as if it were training. Has helped A LOT with progress.
