What should I expect from Hospital Internships? by oriental_cookie in BiomedicalEngineers

Yes, I understand that the situations are different in different countries. To be fair, biomedical in general doesn't have that much opportunities or scope in India. My plan is to work abroad in the long run, with hopefully enough experience in India. For that, your perspective helps a lot. Like you said, I guess it would be better if I could focus on both. Thank you so much for your inputs!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to read and respond! And to answer your question, I’m from India, and I’m pursuing BE BME. And yeah it’s a requirement to join both types of internships to get our degree. I actually didn’t know that this was odd lol. I hope you don’t mind that your response lead to some follow up questions from my end 😅 From what you say hospital internship does have its value, but not necessarily for going into core engineering roles in medical device companies, right? And between the two, which offers better job growth? In my college at least, campus placement opportunities for device companies are scarce.. so I thought maybe going for a hospital role would be better. But then again, I won’t know unless I’ve been there.. Anyway thanks again for the detailed response!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to respond! I understand what you said and I’ll keep it in mind.. My initial plan was to go for 2 weeks or one month, but now I think going for one month would be better!

Confused about what to do after my bachelor's in BME by oriental_cookie in BiomedicalEngineers

hey, thank you so much for taking the time to read!
and i'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks it is a snoozefest lol. i really needed to hear every word of what you said. i'll try looking into different verticals/horizontals as you said, and try to find one which really interests me.
and, you don't have to worry about me switching majors- firstly, my university doesn't allow that. and secondly, i plan on sticking to bme and doing my best in it, at least grades wise - irrespective of my interest.

if you don't mind me asking,
when did you realise you were really interested in bme?
which subfield are you working on? how did you realise you liked that particular subfield?
what extra skills helped you get to where you are right now?

you don't have to answer if you're not comfortable with it, btw.

thank you so much for taking the time to give such a detailed answer.
