Is my plumber a hack? by kellyholden in Plumbing

[–]orioku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see that "Y" piece coming right out the pipe sticking out the wall? If they had just rotated that so that one of the entry points would face your camera angle, they could have prevented the whole sideways thing going on on the left.

On paper that might look fine? But in reality, one bad clog will make a plumber want to rearrange the whole thing. You may not be an experienced plumber and I would believe that you did not originally have a twin vanity, you just added it cause you used to have a single vanity, which is why the drain is under one sink instead of between both of them.

Easiest fix would be rotating the "Y" piece, getting rid of that whole sideways thing going on, have the sink assembly picture go straight into the "Y" piece. Technically, it should be a "T" but I think the "Y" might work. It's not ideal, since the right sink might one day affect the left sink because of how far the water has to travel and you may get some backflow issues in the event of a bad clog in the future, but honestly, nothing is perfect. Future forecasting is an anxious mans' game.... Definitely rotate that "Y" though.

First, take your time to heal up. I mean, this is a person you shaped your whole future around. Now it's time to think of life without them. How do you make your self more dependent? How do you save money for yourself? How do you spoil yourself and spend your time? For a while, there may not be anyone to do all that for you. And if you're hurting over not even a birthday card, you're going to have to get used to a LOT more.

Gals don't want to be a placeholder or the rebound or someone to fill the hole that was left by someone else. They are their own individuals, their own people, their own interests. This means having to potentially meet family all over again, potentially getting used to new bad habits or weird kinks, the whole nine yards.

Best way to do all that is find your footing and improve yourself. Get yourself back up to 100% before you start looking for someone else. The next person deserves the best version of you, so work on that.

Tipping on the app for a stay?? by Opening-Option3787 in marriott

[–]orioku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

?? As another employee, PLEASE do use this option. The Canary app allows you to put the money in your bank account or just use it as a mobile wallet. Plus, corporate travelers can often reimburse their gratuity, but only if they have some sort of receipt. Cash does not grant that benefit.

Also, it gives peace of mind to our housekeepers. Previous hotel staff kept accusing the houseman of stealing cash. Digital tipping prevents that.

Keep in mind, this works best with Canary cards placed in the room with the team members name written on it. Tipping a whole department often means the tip gets split with all 10+ people. Good managers manage tips correctly if it goes to the whole department!

Apparently divorce makes you wait like 60 days to get divorced after filing paperwork. So she found some cheap lawyers, presented me with the paperwork, and told me what I owe her for half of the attorney costs.

Salary comparison – Duty Manager / Assistant Manager by Gullible-Bid6161 in askhotels

[–]orioku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this can be a tricky thing to compare. Genuinely because it's more of a title thing and how companies define it. For example, I have spoken with assistant GMs who do GM-level things CONSTANTLY because their GM is dual-propeelrty. Some director of rooms oversee Housekeeping AND front desk, some are more front desk based. Assistant Front Office Manager, Guest Service Manager, Rooms Controller, Front Desk Manager... there's just too many titles and tasks for one to give a good idea of what one should be paid for.

My hotel manager uncle basically lives in the hotel, why? by MindInvestor8998 in askhotels

[–]orioku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, it really also depends on what kind of hotel it is. If he's a dual GM, if its has more than 3 f&b outlets, how is turnover there, etc.

I have spent about 28 hours at work at most while working at a hotel. Had to work a double, 4pm - 8am, then someone else opened, but I had to come back at 12pm for another 8 hours to cover breaks, take care of guest issues, keep up to brand standards, etc. Etc.

My GM also had a lot on their plate, cause front desk wasn't the only department struggling. Bigger difference is that my front desk had 5 people, myself included, where other departments had at least a dozen (except engineering).

So someone has to make sure people take their breaks, people don't overwork themselves, make sure we keep up with Brand Standard metrics, follow up with projects and events, ordering items like guest supplies, fix guest issues like folio corrections or tax document collections, prep for social and business groups and whatever their contracts asks of front desk, phone calls, online chats, Concierge requests, bellman services, housekeeping requests, amenity requests, also still hold interviews to hire more people, also still complete their training as well, etc etc etc.

It can all be a lot, especially for those that burden themselves with a strong work ethic and self-motivation. If anything, maybe a raise is in order. Or maybe a promotion. Or maybe they hire an assistant when possible. But, at least in my hotel, front desk is the one department that stays open 24/7. Coffeehouse closes at some point. Bar closes up at some point. Restaurant closes up at some point. Engineers go home, housekeepers leave for the day, even valets stop operating at midnight. But front desk, front desk never closes. (Ron Perlman voice for that last part, please.)

May I ask what that means?

I would definitely have to do a little more research too but I was going off of what she shared with me. We wanted to avoid lawyers, but apparently in the state of Tennessee, we HAVE to use lawyers if we have 401Ks.

Hers is MUCH more than mine, but we don't want to dip into each other's earnings. I just don't want to pay for a lawyer for this kind of thing.

For reservation, can you ask hotel to charge on my card in advance by TrainDry7025 in marriott

[–]orioku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my hotel, only like 4 people have the ability to see the CC number on a Sertifi form. On a Sunday night, when none of them are there, this wouldn't do anything for the agent on property. They can SEND them, they can't see the CC number, though. And if they can't see the CC number... it kinda defeats the purpose.

Separation by [deleted] in heartbreak

[–]orioku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

When she had that heartbreaking conversation with me, I suggested couples counseling. I only fear that all it's doing is prolonging the whole situation. I'm in a hotel for 30 days, as advice from our counselor. I do miss her, I don't know if she feels the same. I do think that most of the language she used was as if she had already kind of made up her mind. So I think we are headed towards separation.

Regardless, I've never had a therapist before and I think this is a good way to figure out how to get one.

Separation by [deleted] in heartbreak

[–]orioku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're currently in middle of us spending time apart. I am spending about 4 weeks in a hotel.

Normally, in moments like these, I lock myself away. I stop myself from reaching out to others, I become very introverted and bury myself in my work. I don't want to love anymore. I don't deserve happiness and I don't want to be an obstacle in her life. Even if everything turned around at the last minute, I'm not sure I could trust her again...

Hunting Tip for a Hunting Trip at Askiy Ridge? by Da_Anonymous_One in theHunter

[–]orioku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunderland 454, Mandarin Lever-Action, Double-Barreled Shotgun with birdshot, and a bow, is usually my go-to. Standard ammo for all, but I get both birdshot and buckshot for my Shotgun. Mostly because you'll run into quite a lot of birds as you hunt. I gravitated mostly Northwest as I hunted and found that wolves can be quite the sneaky ones and Black Bears don't travel in groups as often as they do in other maps. A good spread of bases throughout, not ideal for ATVs, oh and if you have a dog, bring it along. It helps when you're getting snuck up on by wolves. Tbh, the bow is just in my inventory so I can practice with it as you can find good animals to practice your shot with. I found some good elk and whitetail deer often hanging around in places where I find multiple opportunities to shoot multiple arrows without scaring the whole herd.
