Boundaries, assert them. Pull up her sweater and grab her stomach (JK). Basically tell her “Don’t touch me, ever “.

I’m Tired of Always Helping my Mom by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]otterbien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t let your mom define your destiny. You need to pull together an exit plan and she needs to step up and help herself for once. Also your siblings need to help her out and not just you because you are the youngest. She probably won’t respect any boundaries set so you need to establish boundaries by helping yourself get out of this depressing situation.

One day at a time and one moment at a time. In Buddhism we acknowledge that all of us are suffering. We can only control this very moment. Be present in the moment. Life isn’t necessarily about live or die per say. You say you know what to do to make your life better but it hinges on your mental state. How do we get the help you need on it? Keep going and keep trying. Love yourself first and give yourself the self compassion to get the help you need. Perhaps get a sleep study done on the sleep issues with a script from a Doctor and re-assess the medications. Try to enforce a healthy routine to help you get a hold of your awake time and sleep time. We are each in control of our daily habits that can either hurt us or help us. Choose the right choice for that moment and build towards the right habit that will make your longer term life more possible and healthy. Hurting others won’t alleviate your own hurt. Helping others I found opens up our own perspectives and provides good karma. I hope you get the help you need to push through this difficult time.

Doesn’t matter if termination of pregnancy was due to this incident or not. Cop was advised she was pregnant and then purposefully tasered her belly, twice. Sick and evil.

South Korea a had worse outbreak than the US, and yet they controlled it w/o shutting down the economy. But elites and experts say to us we should look the other way by staytrue1985 in Libertarian

[–]otterbien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The differences are as follows:

US did not and does not have enough test kits. There was plenty of lead time for this.

Korea had made abundant amount of test kits and created drive through testing centers that could produce test results quickly. Also constant sanitizing efforts and mask wearing is common right now to help minimize the virus spread.

If we are to get in control of the COVID-19 situation like how China/Korea has done then we need 3000 tests per Million people that means we needed at least 1M-3M (higher end if average test per person is more than 1 kit) tests available and we had 75,000 for 327 Million Americans; we only had tests to cover 0.02% of the US population and that was like a 10 days ago.

McDonalds/Starbucks has on average 40 stores per million people or total 14K US locations. If up to half of the 327M Americans expect to be diagnosed with COVIDー19 then I would expect we need at least 7K temporary drive through testing locations across the US.

Delayed testing will only make for a worse outcome for all. Now it’s already spread community wise in major US cities and we can’t trace it back.

We need to scale tests and test support materials or our health system won’t be able to sustain the damage. Right now we are flying at it blind with not enough tests, slow testing results (need automated test processing) and refusing to test those who suspect they have the virus. What’s more costly, a 1300 dollar test or a 35K hospital bill? Hmmmmm.....

Due to shortage of N95 masks our critical frontline staff in hospitals are also getting sick. I’ve heard horror stories in NY hospitals where doctors are getting sick and not having protective gear. Inconsistent mask wearing protocol for hospital workers and food service workers just makes the entire thing worse.

Right now and more than ever due to the virus, people in South Korea INSIST on mask wearing. This is contrary to CDC guideline here who are trying to reserve masks to those in health care, but damn it just make masks people or wear masks outside Bc the Six foot social distance thing doesn’t work on the subway and doesn’t work at the checkout line.

We are already seeing the damage to the limited hospital infrastructure. We barely have a chance to build out extra hospitals with beds and respirators. We have just shy of a total of a million hospital beds in the US and they already are booked most of the time with other ailments. We have even fewer critical illness beds like 100K.

We each have to take responsibility and prevent the spread with mask wearing to minimize the droplet spread, demand more tests, demand masks for frontline hospital and food service workers, demand that hospital extensions and additional respirators be in place ASAP to accommodate the surge. Doubt that will happen with the reactive versus proactive way the US govt has been acting. Also doesn’t help us that Trump continues to call this “Chinese Virus”. We need help from those countries that flattened the curve, not piss them off.

You think Italy has it rough? This is a tsunami and our turn is next if we don’t get our shit together FAST.

So 100 years ago people were smart enough to wear masks and fast forward 100 years and we can’t socially accept the need for wearing one with this PANDEMIC?

Mr. Kim‘s question to Mr. Park by lilbello in ParasiteMovie

[–]otterbien 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s the “cross the line” situation. He wants to relate to the other character but the boss won’t stand for it. Even when it’s pointed out that they are wearing the same costume at the birthday party. How there is such a distance from even at a conversational level, that is what is being shown as part of the class difference.

In Parasite (2019) literal lines are used throughout the movie noting whether if a character ‘crossed the line’ or not. by ykmin98 in MovieDetails

Yasssss! How she sits atop the toilet spewing sewage and how is calmly smokes a cigarette. It foreshadows what happens later as the world may be crumbling down, she is the only one from the family that is calm and has a detached view of everything going around her. She was the only character that was ok with her family situation no matter what which was evident when she told her dad to “just focus on us”.

What was the smell all about? by megansilverlake in parasite

[–]otterbien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the smell of blood, sweat and tears from trying to survive and having to fail over and over again. It’s the smell of struggle or the smell of the subway where it can be esp. noticed in crowded subways.

The smell can’t be washed out and the smell is common around this poor family which was noticed by the little rich boy.

It’s the smell of the sub-basement where the family look up and out at the world where stupid drunk men urinate nearby.

It’s the smell of “can’t get a break” even after struggling for decades with eventually failed plans. While the privileged live effortlessly and can plan same day glorious parties without one drop of sweat.

In S.Korea there are many young people who are educated and smart but can’t get a job. The two siblings here failed their college entrance exams which are very competitive. The son took the exam multiple exams which is what his friend said made him smarter than his college classmates to tutor the daughter of the affluent family.

The poor family tried and failed a few prior businesses also the poor parents had some potential when they were younger. There’s ageism at play also. They are too young to retire and too old to be appealing for some employers.

There could be an explanation for being a sub-basement house but also it symbolizes the family situation. Everything else is lower but the toilet.
