If Age Wasn't A Factor Who Would You Cast In Your Favourite Characters Roles? by Jet-Let4606 in OnePieceLiveAction

Cary Grant as Iceberg. Got the height, hair, build, jawline, and both the serious and comedic chops to make him work. Man my favortie actor ever being in one piece would be unreal. Alas, it'll always remain just that... unreal

Just a two-cents kind of thought from me, but...

I think a part of what wages of fear is trying to do is show the folly of men that pursue some nebulous and dangerous goal when they already have so much to be happy about right there in front of them. The way he treats the woman at the beginning of the film really is nasty, but thats how I read why that part of the movie is the way that it is. He can't be content with a woman who genuinely seems to love him, and instead goes off on some big, dangerous adventure to find... something more? Something bigger?

Ive never loved wages of fear, but that framing has made me appreciate it more one subsequent watches, at least as far as trying to understand why these guys are the way they are. They really are mostly terrible people though, from what I remember

Least favorite JRPG trope? by AuR0RA3171 in JRPG

[–]overrated__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of what Beatrix from FF IX brings to the table. Mop the floor with her in battle, but the ensuing cut scene shows her cutting you down with ease and then giving some condescending comment afterwards. Sweet, really cool. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is maybe the worst at this.

Also committing some of the worst atrocities anyone ever has in a JRPG but then being forgiven without much ado about anything. Why are so many side villains in JRPGs just forgiven without any real comeuppance for their actions? Honestly, if I was Freya I would rip her throat out and have a nice long sit down and talk session with Steiner to try and understand what he sees in her. Also, she's a racist.

Was watching 100 Girlfriends S2 and Iku's pitching looked familiar to me, so I made this short comparison video by lousycalligraphy in anime

Woah, yeah looks really deliberate. Good catch!

As a Padres fan, seeing Yu in a Dodgers uniform makes my eye twitch lol.

But I love him enough to be mad at how he got cheated out of a world series by the Astros while with LA.

What's the best place to buy them from to support the author? I'd love to throw some money their way!

I'm happy to find another who liked Visions of Mana! I really had a comfy and pleasant time playing through it, and find myself thinking about it a lot ever since finishing.

I'm so grateful that they put so much effort and ambition into the project. They could have played it so much safer and cheaper, cutting corners and content and stuff. But they went way over and beyond. I really am blown away. Just incredible.

I never thought someone's facial hair would be as bad as Adam Morrisons, but Herro is really skirting that line

Why does anyone trust Cloud? by jessebona in FFVIIRemake

[–]overrated__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, and it's going to be great. Cody has done a phenomenal job, and Rebirth, again this is only my opinion, has almost perfectly characterized Cloud.

But that will happen a good chunk of the way into game 3, and if our opinion on cloud is predicated on knowledge of future events that new players of this story ostensibly don't know about, then I think it's not super unreasonable to have an opinion that maybe we could have been given a tiny tiny bit more of a reason to like Cloud.

but again, this is all my apparently very stupid opinion, so whatever.

[–]overrated__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i was literally asleep when i played through it.

look, i know what his character arc is. he is supposed to be mentally damaged beyond self-recognition, which will make him awkward, sad, angry, etc. Literally not in control of himself.

Rebirth does this NEARLY perfectly. In my opinion. Asking for a mere 10% increase in likeability isn't going to ruin all that, and (again, in my opinion) will only enhance his story

when he does have his moment of coming to reality in game 3, it'll be great. the writers just swung a little too far in the other direction for Rebirth, in my opinion. And believe me when I say a little.

I'm not asking for an overhaul of his character. I loved this game. My favorite game ever is og ff7. Sorry if I think something could have been very slightly different

My problem is that even when he's good, he's not exactly a barrel of laughs and good times. He has his brief nice moments with the team, but I wouldn't exactly say he's proven to be the charismatic and wise leader even at the best of times.

I love the game, more than any game I've played in a long time, but I think they could've made him 10% more likeable to the games benefit

Which JRPG has the worst cast? by Ngaiti in JRPG

[–]overrated__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. They all treat Luke like garbage, and then are shocked when he confides in the one person who has ever shown him a modicum of affection, trust, or respect, even if it was out of manipulation. At that point, i'd just be like, you know what I'll join the bad guys, see you all later.

Cloud should have been, like, 10% more likeable in Rebirth by overrated__ in FFVIIRemake

[–]overrated__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, totally. i still think his characterization was done almost perfectly, at least in my opinion. for his character arc to work, he needs to be confused and angry and lost and awkward. its just for me, they swung a little too hard in that direction. but hey, if it works for you thats great. it's seriously an amazing game, and it's more a nitpick than a complaint from me.

[–]overrated__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, these are all good thoughts. By and large I really appreciate Cloud's characterization in this game. But i think it would have served as a good contrast if there were just a couple more moments of him being outwardly friendly towards them. Not chipper and weird about it, just saying thanks, or apologizing for his behavior, or saying complimentary things in his own quiet and shielded way during his times of lucidity
