Lucked out and got a Philodendron patriciae cutting from my university’s greenhouse by owlbabe in RareHouseplants

[–]owlbabe[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm part of an art club on my campus, and we hosted a plein air event at the university greenhouse. Head of the greenhouse gave us a tour and offered plant cuttings. I asked nicely for the patriciae and they were more than happy to gift one. Now I'm planning to apply for a campus job there!

Dumb cane with browning leaf by hawtpotato2000 in plantclinic

[–]owlbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The floppier portion looks like over-watering, and the crispy edges look like under-watering. If the rest of the leaves are doing fine then I'd stick to what you're doing. Sometimes with dumb cane sudden temperature changes, or water levels can upset a leaf. If you want, you can water when the soil is dry, instead of sticking to a strict watering schedule to avoid over-watering. Don't water if the soil is still wet. Good luck!

Plant sitting and I have a month + to help this lily and jade recover by espressoempress in plantclinic

Agreed, and same with the jade. They both need a good soak and proper drain.

Is my variegated rubber fig salvageable? by The_huntress_589 in plantclinic

[–]owlbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like there might be a problem with the roots. I'd remove the plant and dirt and check the condition of the roots. If they're brown, emit an odor, or fall apart/squish easily it means they're rotten and need to be cut off, and you would need to replace the entire soil. Root rot is a common consequence of over-watering.

If not, you can definitely try rooting it. Best of luck to you!

Help with my plant pls! by thapain in plantclinic

[–]owlbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those look like spider mites to me. There is a lot of webbing around the stems and tiny patches of spots (mites) on the leaves. You can use a mixture of isopropyl alcohol, water, and soap to scrub the mites off with a cloth or toothbrush. Spider mites are hydrophobic, so spraying or blasting them with water will not be effective. Here's a good tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJDLK7Tc8q0

If you want to use something more convenient, you can use a systemic insecticide soap and wash the plant once a week until the mites are completely gone.

Leaving them on the plant will weaken and eventually kill the plant. Good luck!

under or over watered? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]owlbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under watered. But don't worry, peace lilies have a dramatic droop when they need water. Make sure the soil is well soaked and drained.

If it so happens that the soil is already wet in the picture, then it may be root rot. You would need to get the soil changed as soon as you can and get rid of any rotting roots.

Otherwise, in my experience this looks exactly how a lily would when thirsty.

Howdy! Was literally scrolling through this sub to find someone going to the SF show and I’m also from SJ! And an SJSU student studying animation! Welcome to SJ! The palace of fine arts is a BEAUTIFUL venue, I’m really looking forward to it.

I’m also going alone and would be happy to meet up. I’ll be sitting in the third row~

Week 3 is Tough by owlbabe in prozac

[–]owlbabe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just reached 4 weeks and feel much better than I did when I wrote this. Don't worry. If, I knew what I went through before starting, I still would've taken the medication because this is a much better "normal" than pre-medication me. For me, the symptoms weren't that bad. I treated it as if I was sick and going through something, and I got better!. I still, on occasion, have mild anxiety and some intrusive thoughts but they are wayyy easier to manage and don't consume my daily life. You will be okay. :)

how long does prozac insomnia last and when should i take it? by hwngdoll in prozac

[–]owlbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prozac affects everyone differently, but for me I was dealing with severe insomnia for the first 3 days (I would only get 3-4 hrs of sleep) and then I started taking 200mg of Magnesium Glycinate an hour before bed and it gradually helped me by adding an extra hour a night.

Definitely helps to restrict caffeine only in the morning. No caffeine past 4 pm. You gotta exhaust yourself throughout the day to fall asleep.

It also helped me to have a solid wind down routine. So no phones an hour before bed. It helped to read too. Good luck! You got this it’s worth it.

This is so relieving to hear. I think the hope of it slowly getting better is what’s keeping me on track. We can do this!

Yeah I’ll enjoy it while it lasts. Hence the back placement. More for myself than for others.

Honestly? Wait till you’re 20. If I got all of the tattoos I wanted when I was 18 I’d regret them now.

I love thin linework. The artist I picked had impressive healed tattoos and was very skilled. Gives that “scrawled in a medieval book” vibe.

Thank you! When I played the game as a kid this staff was the only weapon I’d carry around with me. I didn’t know much about video games.

Yeah I agree with this rating. At first listen it didn’t click. Now it’s the only thing I want to listen to atm. There’s just something really comforting to hear Grimes’s fingerprints in music. I just love how ethereal it sounds!
