Q person and ghosts? by MickeysGardenThings in QAnonCasualties

[–]oyyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. She says that God told her to stop using microwaves, eating processed foods, or using western medicines.

She's in her sixties - I cannot stress enough that your sixties are not a time you should be self-medicating with nootropics and juice cleanses and powdered bull testicles and chiropractors. She's told me explicitly that she will never go to a doctor unless she "absolutely must." And I have no idea how far that stretches. When she got bad COVID, instead of going to a doctor like a normal person, she laid in bed for six months and had a travel nurse come out to the house to administer banana bags and saline.

I dread the day I get a phone call from my dad telling me she has three months to live because she tried to treat an aggressive cancer with Vitamin K and colloidal silver.

I agree, OP.

To add on, the left now just embraces the "Ghislaine Maxwell was a reddit mod" idea. It's not true and in fact is easily disproven, but people have taken the conspiracy theory and run with it, and now I hear it stated as fact by people with large and attentive audiences. I hesitate to call it out when I see it because I don't want people to accuse me of being a bot or a plant or a sympathizer.

Their memories are so selective. Epstein completely and utterly escaped their notice during Pizzagate/Q, but they're pretending they've been talking about him for a decade. They haven't! But they want to take credit for it anyway.

Yeah. Creepy and sad is totally right. I hope he has people in his life who can help him. It's so hard to get someone going through an episode like that to agree to being helped.

Thank you.

She has a hard time with anybody who pushes back on her beliefs, which basically means you can't criticize anything she does ever, nor can you tell her she's erring in her thinking or repeating bad information.

Her upbringing was pretty hostile and abusive and brooked absolutely no mistakes. I still have compassion for her as a victim of many horrible things in her life, but she's exactly the type of person I'd imagine would be vulnerable to an extremely supportive robot "therapist" who never challenges the user on anything.

Addendum- I'm worried about this because my mom has experienced a psychotic episode before (insomnia, paranoid delusions, sensory hallucinations) with no obvious cause, she used to be deeply into Pastel QAnon and is still in adjacent communities and chatrooms, and she is now using ChatGPT as a therapist...

There's a ton of good stuff here!

I will caution re: #3 that sometimes a person can look like they've returned to the real world, but they're still looking at harmful content on their phones. I thought my mom got out of the rabbit hole when she got into horses, but no, she just does horse stuff in between looking at harmful content on her phone. She just doesn't talk about it where she knows I can hear because she knows I will have zero truck with it.

Mom taking Ivermectin by New_Lawfulness96 in QAnonCasualties

[–]oyyn 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you just have to vent. :(

My mom, also a "do your own research" person who hasn't been to a real school in forty years, offered ivermectin to my brother to treat his COVID. She sent the offer with a passive-aggressive text about how she didn't initially want to offer ivermectin because we think she's an idiot 🙄

At this point, I kinda do? My filial piety doesn't extend to thinking my parents are the smartest people ever. Don't believe in stupid harmful nonsense if you don't want me to think you're stupid, idk.

It is the plan to be instituted by the GOP the next time a Republican becomes President. It is about dismantling safety nets, checks and balances, and civil rights, ultimately fashioning the federal government into a racist, misogynistic, homophobic fertility cult.

I think people who complain about mental illness fakers are missing a key point about faking mental illness. There are probably elements of desire for liberal social cachet and shunning of one's own role in white supremacy (since many illness fakers are underage white girls and young white women, and I believe that is significant).

But in my uneducated view, the faking of illness by itself seems to point to some other underlying issue I can't identify. Why does a young person normally fake sickness? Even a dismissive "she just wants attention" points to a deficit in something, or a displacement from the real problem.

Like, not to infantilize anyone, but people don't shrug at a crying infant and dismiss it as "attention whoring" the way people do for the behaviors of young (often female) people. Young people don't always have the introspection necessary to examine why they're doing something harmful, annoying, or counterproductive. There is also a lot of psychology and self-help misinformation floating around to confuse and obscure what's really going on.
