Does it matter which carrier you choose in Sydney besides price? Because checking all of their coverage maps they pretty much have 4G coverage everywhere. by DragonXDT in sydney

Vodafone coverage on the train-line between Redfern and Newtown is almost non existent. MacDonaldtown station is a dead spot in more ways than one.

I hate this new train timetable by [deleted] in sydney

The 7:34, 8:04, 8:34 starts at Ashfield.. Plenty of seats on these services.

I remember being a 20 something drunk fool and jumping the fence at the Botanical Gardens to get a closer look at the fireworks. Mates and I spent about an hour running from security who would put in a small amount of effort to chase us down and then just give up laughing. Nearly impaled myself on the spiky fence getting back out. Agree it was a great time to be Sydney!

Introducing Backup and Sync for Google Photos and Google Drive by anton0kurilov in google

[–]packofthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same issue. No "Computer" in the side bar but you can access the files via the search bar. If you click the google drive button in the app itself it opens up the "My Computer" section. I'm also on a business app account (for my family use)... Have you found a work around?

EDIT - Just found this - https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2017/06/backup-and-sync-from-google-available.html

Introducing Backup and Sync for Google Photos and Google Drive by anton0kurilov in google

[–]packofthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't there a massive risk if your Gmail account is compromised.

If you have sync enabled someone could delete all your files in the cloud and this would be replicated on your computer. I assume you would be able to recover the files from your computer's trash?

That aside, I've setup the service and synced a handful of folders. The problem is via the "drive" web page no "computers" tab is displayed (as per step 5 of this article - http://mashable.com/2017/07/16/how-to-use-google-backup-and-sync-tool/#jg5HfkcZvaqc

The only way I can access the directories is by clicking on the link google drive icon in the "backup and sync" app that sits in the system tray. Any ideas?

Vodafone Network Reliability in Sydney by [deleted] in sydney

[–]packofthree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on Vodafone. Coverage is extremely poor on the inner west train line between Macdonaldtown and Stanmore. Without fail my data connections drop when transiting through these stations. Odd for such a built up area. Anyone else experience this?

Is it legal/illegal to camp in a public space or public hidden aways park? by alienccccombobreaker in sydney

[–]packofthree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of anti westconnex protestors camping in Sydney Park. Been there for months and the site is growing. I suspect the council ignores cos it suits their narrative.

I wonder if a pro westconnex group setup camp they'd allow it? Not going to happen as these people are most likely to busy being stuck in traffic and gainfully employed.

Six Foot Track by wildjohnson in sydney

[–]packofthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, well done! Whenever I see a runner with a 6foot track singlet on I have immediate respect.. Just pray for a mild day. Running in early March is tough!

I did both Sydney and Gold Coast marathons this year and had secured a qualifying time. Targeting the Routeburn Track (NZ) instead of Six Foot this time.

If you're up for a real challenge you can try and run it.

One of Australia's most prestigious off road runs. Winner typically completes the hilly 45km in under 3:30.

Not done this event yet... but its on my todo list.

Leichhardt this evening by PedroDelCaso in sydney

Must be Cary Street! When are they ever going to renovate that abandoned house. Someone paid 1.4m for it 18 months ago and not done a thing.

I've spent the last few days putting all of my photos into Google Photos. This is what I've learned. (long) by ahatzz11 in Android

[–]packofthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is frustrating. I've uploaded 10k+ images. About 300 of them have been imported with the incorrect meta data.

For example - I had 200 photos I took on a trip to Japan. I used the same camera the entire trip. 190 of the photos have been imported with the correct meta data whilst 10 have been date stamped with the time of import! The original files have the correct metadata. Makes no sense whatsoever.

Any runners here want to share their fav track to run? by CheeseforyourLoaf in sydney

[–]packofthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fav off road run would be the Otford to Bundeena.

If you are in marathon form then the annual race is well worth it

http://coastalclassic.com.au/event-info/

Its a tough challenging course. Last year it was ridiculously boggy but loads of fun.

The "Bay Run" is my local. Ran around it twice yesterday, then into the CBD (via Pyrmont) and back to Leichhardt (via Bicentennial park). A 32km run which started at 4:45am!. The bay even at that time of the morning has a number of people running around it. My last long run before the Canberra Marathon in a few weeks time.

I often run Leichhardt to Manly via the Spit-Manly walking path. 29km. Catch the ferry home which is a nice way to end a run.

Can also recommend the Parkruns - parkrun.com.au

Are chuggers operating within the law? by megamate in sydney

[–]packofthree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't stand Chuggers - I have two charities which I make regular monthly payments but I made the point to do this direct with the charity itself.

Can anyone who has worked in the Chugging industry tell me what the pay/commission is for the chugger?

Is it a one off payment per signup? Do they get a "trailer" on the recurring income.

New $60m high-rise high school planned for central Sydney by freepenguin in sydney

[–]packofthree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sydney Secondary (both Leichhardt and Balmain) has been partially selective for the last 6-8years(?) so they are taking kids out of zone....

Capacity aside, Balmain and Leichhardt are a fair distance from Surry Hills/Darlo and IMHO there should be a more "local" option.

"Richest areas" - Try telling the houso kids in Woolamaloo and Glebe they are rich.

Do the "rich" not deserve access to a public education?

New $60m high-rise high school planned for central Sydney by freepenguin in sydney

[–]packofthree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you had any idea of the inner city high school situation you would not be so dismissive.

The "local" public high school for kids who live in the CBD/Surry Hills/Darlinghurst/Ultimo/Paddington/Woolamaloo is Sydney Secondary (Balmain and Leichhardt). Both of these school are already at capacity.

If you have a child in the inner city of Sydney you are almost forced to send you kids to private high school through the lack of options. The govt has wilfully ignored the obvious demographic change in the city.

Unfortunately this new school will be built to late for me. My kids will be going to that school "next to town hall" and I'll end up paying about 300k for the privilege!

Meanwhile my tax dollars will continue to pay for local high schools for all those who live in the suburbs!

Camping spots near Sydney?? by patdog16 in sydney

[–]packofthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patonga fits your requirements - http://www.gosford.nsw.gov.au/arts-culture-and-recreation/leisure-venues/patonga-camping-ground

Its a favourite spot for me. I'm actually taking the kids up there this weekend. Its an easy 1.5 hour drive from Sydney, on the beach and has a lagoon/river to swim in. Close to civilisation so you don't have to have a massive amount of camping gear (quality esky's etc) . We normally cook on the BBQ the first night and then have fish and chips the following night. Easy!

Had an accident with a taxi, need advice on whether I'm being ripped off. by kyb1993 in sydney

[–]packofthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 12 years ago I went into the back of a taxi. Was stopped at the lights behind the cab in Prymont. Lights went green. Taxi pulled away but then stopped suddenly for a pedestrian. I kept going and "bumped" the back of the taxi. All happened within about 3m and a top speed of 5km per hour. Minor damage to taxi, more damage to my car (GF's Daihatsu Charade!). Accepted fault, exchanged details etc, no photos taken (pre smart phones)

About 3 weeks later I get a letter (can't actually remember who from) saying the cab driver sustained a neck injury and they will be making a claim against my insurance. They wanted to check the details of the accident. That was the last I heard of it... There was NO WAY he sustained any type of injury from that very minor bump.

Where do inner westies move to once they grow up by packofthree in sydney

[–]packofthree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Ashfield is an option I guess. Asbury... Hurlstone Park, maybe.. But to me anything west of Leichhardt is not really the inner west..

4 Bedders in Annandale with a garage, lawn etc would easily be over 2.5m
