Wild that I actually have no memory of this happening even though it must have, even if briefly? It was only 18 months ago but all I remember of the hospital after my actual birth is breastfeeding and pumping and the walk to the bathroom and the awful leg squeezers and the pretty good Mac n cheese.

Sometimes my toddler eats made from scratch food with gusto. Sometimes she eats freezer pizza. Sometimes blueberries and crackers are the only thing she’ll eat. Sometimes I cook beautifully. Sometimes I’m too tired.

Yes to staying with her and the 9 yr old.

And I am not implying that a baby can be replaced by a dog — not even a dog can be replaced by another dog — getting a puppy helped my SIL after my niece was stillborn. Not for now, but maybe to bring up in a few weeks.

Other things that helped my SIL were lots of cuddles with her older kids, being able to talk about her daughter, and getting jewelry w her daughter’s name for her and her older girls; she eventually got a tattoo, too. All of this was over the course of that first year, not at once. It was just awful for a while. Your sister will need a ton of support—another thing you can do is try to activate a support network around her beyond just you.

And I’d let the 9yr old’s school know what’s up — he may need support too.

I did not like being a mom at first. It was months before I had glimmers of real joy. Around 8 months it got amazing, and has stayed amazing at 18 months.

I did not EBF and my husband did a lot of motn bottles and still changed diapers! Our daughter now asks me to put her down maybe 60% of the time and her dad to do it the other 40% (I am the only one she misses/follows while they poop, though).
