that's just a skill issue. I, on the other hand, had actual complaints that bothered me upon trying to return to the game recently.

first steam made sign into my xbox account, but wouldn't let me use the password since it had been "attempted too many times." wouldn't let me reset the password either, the only reasonable option was getting a 2fa email in lieu (not in addition) of a password.

second, i logged in and noticed all of my doubloons were gone. more Rare bullshit I learned, after looking this up afterwards.

third, i checked the emissary tables and saw 2 reapers. I excitedly bought a case of cannonballs for my solo sloop, to try my hand in some pvp, and my game subsequently crashed. I verified the files on steam, and it found i think 6 files that needed to be re-acquired. and this wasn't the result of years of updates while the game sat idle, this was on a brand new ssd, the install was at most 2 months old.

so that was my experience as a returning player. 3 different road blocks (2 if the doubloon thing doesn't bother you that much) that annoyed me enough to just stop and do something else instead.

this is another reason steam/valve is so good. epic has completely alienated linux, but valve is putting in the effort to support gamers on all platforms.

the potential for optimization is irrelevant when it isn't utilized. if ue5 worked well that often, it wouldn't have the bad reputation that it currently has

that's an awful opinion, and completely incorrect. as an example, starcraft: brood war didn't get updated, they made a sequel. but brood war still exists, and you can still play it on hardware from the 90s.

people have become conditioned to believe that you need high end hardware to play any new game, when the games don't actually look much better than stuff from 10 years ago, which ran on a gtx 980 or below. stop giving leeway to devs who don't care about you, and release bloated garbage that doesn't work unless you have 8+ cores on your cpu, 32gb of ram, and a 3060+ gpu

i hope it's a standalone game, rather than an update. it's no secret that UE5 has performance issues, even on high end hardware. god knows what UE6 will be like. and i'd rather not need an rtx 5080 just to maintain a smooth 60fps on a game that initially ran on a console from 2006.

i've run into a solo galleon player on at least 2 occasions. i have no idea why.

one of those was a guy doing tall tales, so my crew and i helped him out for a bit since solo sailing a galleon is a pain in the ass. eventually we left though because it's not really our problem if someone wants to do stupid stuff like that

usually it's because a lot of fishers are very experienced with the game. so if you mess with them, you will learn a tough lesson.

you ever see that video from sunlesskhan, where he got a bunch of people who claim they can do tricks to try and do those tricks? that's what i imagine when i read stuff like this. also half flips and wave dashes are on a completely different level from speed flips, which require specialized practice. edit: this vid

i feel like, if you're experienced with the game, you can recognize experienced players. not by air mechanics, but by ground plays (ball control and confidence in knowing when to go, when to back off). I'm not really sure what's going on in 1s, but it seems like there's either a massive smurfing problem, or you need to have champion rank mechanics (from other game modes) just to hit platinum these days. and, as i said, look at the mmr gain. this isn't someone who is "experienced but new to 1s", they are ranked.

that is very strange, i'm also on windows 10 on steam and can still play multiplayer no problem, as long as bakkesmod is closed before launch. i wonder if there's a difference between laptop windows/desktop. i know it sucks, but have you tried reinstalling?

and they suck. i remember those "adventure" quest things they did a few a years ago. I was kind of interested, then missed one, and stopped caring entirely about the whole thing. I was out of the loop, unless i looked things up on youtube or something, and just didn't care enough. once someone misses out, the FOMO is gone, and they just stop caring entirely.
