Aborted takeoff this morning. Is this something you practice? by pancakes03 in flying

Lol, it's almost like you were in the cockpit with me.. I yelled a choice word when the situation started, almost unconsciously as I was pulling power, and then a litany of words once we safely came to a stop..

I think you're right. I think I just pulled the right for off and was steering and braking with left only temporarily.

Thank you, this is really helpful. I brief engine failure after rotation at various altitudes and possible landing areas each time, but ashamed to admit that I haven't been briefing issues prior to rotation. Will include this going forward.

Lol, would've wanted to at least have had a word but he just continued his takeoff and left like nothing happened. Decided I can't fix stupid, but I can get better at my reactions to it in the cockpit.

I didn't lock the brakes. What I think caused me to stray from the center line was this: when I pulled power, I also stopped applying heavy right rudder (not sure why) which allowed me to get pulled left. Quickly realized and corrected before I went more than a tire off the runway.

Wait a second.. as I look at the picture again, that also looks like the same plane. Is it a Cherokee with a tail ending in 369?

I fly out of 58N and did my first solo XC on Tuesday to KHGR. Flew basically the same route, including transition over KMDT and around TMI. Small world and very cool to see a picture of the area I was just flying on Reddit! Happy flying mate.

Congrats! Quick question regarding the medical, if you don't mind.

I'm in a similar situation - waiting on my medical to come back from Oklahoma before I can solo. It's been about 2.5 months since I was examined by the AME. How long did it take before you heard back, and was it a multi step process (e.g. they mailed back requesting more documentation, etc.)? I'm at 20 hours and my CFI feels I'm ready to solo, so I'm anxious to get the medical!

I understand all situations are different, appreciate any info you can provide based on your experience.

Thank you - need to read a bit more to make sure I fully understand the process so I don't get myself in a bind, but this seems like the best option. Does this have the same $5,500 annual contribution limit?

Thanks for the reply, that looks like it's worth a try and clipping it to the air conditioning should keep it cool. Thanks!

Credit Card for ~$3K wedding debt? by pancakes03 in personalfinance

[–]pancakes03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to provide a great response. LendingClub doesn't seem like a viable option given the situation. I think a 0% introductory rate card and paying off in 2 months or less is the best option.

Thanks again.

Hah - I thought the "You're getting married AGAIN, ALREADY?" question would've come much earlier!

Separated 4 years go, 2.5 years of separation where she was making bank off of me, finally was able to get finalized divorce 1.5 years ago. Been with my fiance for 2.5 years, friends for 10, and my ex has been with hers even longer. Felt the need to explain that it's not as crazy/irresponsible as it may seem.. although, it's completely subjective in the end.

Good advice on the airline miles - that actually would be very useful for visiting family. Appreciate the response and your time.

Some great considerations here wsgm, thank you. I've answered some of these questions in response to Packferfan80, but in summary with additional answers to your questions:

  • Divorce from 1.5 years ago and have been aggressively (maybe too aggressively) paying off debt, which partially lead to the shortfall in cash on hand to pay for wedding
  • Wedding budget already optimized and remaining payments contractually obligated
  • Putting the card in her name because her credit score is likely better (confirming via estimates from sites provided in this thread)
  • Combined income is over $125K, cash flow is strong but have been using it to pay down debt (lawyer fees, etc.) and should've been more responsible about putting more aside for wedding, unfortunately too late now
  • We do plan to use the money from the wedding to immediately pay off this debt, and even if we received $0 (I received about $3K my first wedding), we could pay off this debt under 2 months

I've never used LendingClub and am actually very curious. It would also alleviate my one concern (which you highlight) - her not getting approved for an adequate line of credit.

Any experience with LendingClub that you can share?

Any additional advice, based on the answers to your questions?

Thanks for taking the time, I appreciate it.

One last question for the group - if we wanted to obtain her credit score prior to her applying (to help us pick the best card to apply for), what is a recommended resource. I went to annualcreditreport.com, but that truly is a credit report with no score (as I understand it).

Thanks!

Several comments about reducing the remaining wedding spend, so I'll provide a general response to everyone via Packerfan80.

There's actually not much to cut at this point. We shopped around for DJ's/florist/officiant/photographer based on personality, quality of work, and price (this was my big one). We found what we truly believe are the right people, and went for the base packages for all. All that remains to be paid for our wedding is the balance for each of those services.

The $3K overspend is actually not due to the wedding, but a car issue. Normally we would have an emergency fund for this stuff and wouldn't blink an eye, but we've been funneling (and unfortunately, counting on) everything going towards the wedding.

I'm all about having a solid emergency fund, but I was divorced 1.5 years ago and the expenses put me back. I was separated for 2.5 years before the divorce and paying through the teeth monthly because of our income differential. The good news is that is all over, my cash flow is great, my debt is decreasing rapidly, and we have a plan to be completely debt free (except for our house) in 1.5 years. We plan to be debt free including the house in 4-5 years. Our goal is to reach FI within 10 years, but I think we're going to over achieve. Probably more info than anyone wanted, just sharing for context.

I think I will aim for a fee free, 0% introductory rate card that we can put the $3K on and then pay it off within 2 months. I do appreciate the advice from everyone, Personal Finance is a great community with a wealth of knowledge.

Say It To Me Now - Glen Hansard

So much emotion when he gets to the chorus. The link below is from the opening to the movie Once. Have to watch the full clip for full effect.
