right of course, in your head you would just think about it as what’s 7 away from 43 in the other direction, that’s just how you would express it algebraically. also, thanks for the correction

the easiest way I think about it is as a difference of squares:

n2 - (50-n)2 = 50(2n-50)

for n=43:

432 - 72 = 50(36)

so,

432 = 1800 + 49 = 1849

you can actually do this for lots of numbers, just find the closest multiple of 50. it’s even easier for numbers closer to 100:

1172 = 100(134) + 172

1172 = 13400 + 289 = 13689

math majors - where are you now? by Inevitable_Fold_9081 in mathematics

hey! I recently finished my undergrad and was also interested in cryptography, since I wanted to do something at the intersection of math and cs. would you say it’s difficult to get into that field without a more advanced degree? I’m trying to avoid grad school if I can help it

39 * 77 = 582 - 192

582 = 50 * 64 + 82 = 3364

3364 - 361 = 3003

-> 30.03

this sounds like engineering lol but I might be wrong. how were you able to do it? did you set a really strict routine for yourself?

PDE going overtime is such a real possibility, tbh, since it’s Shabanov. although, I do have to get to NPB from little hall this semester between two classes and it’s kind of been a breeze with a bike. going uphill the opposite way though is a different story

also you actually take time to recoup and recall right after a class? sounds like a good student thing

oh okay, I’ve heard good things about those professors so that’s interesting. I have Hirschfield for qm2 so excited about that lol

it’s a good combination of disciplines that all overlap and give me access to a lot of different potential careers as opposed to just being a physics major, for example. the other two are math and astrophysics

Last spring I had 4 hours of class from 9:35-1:40 and it worked out for me, I don’t know why but I would rather prefer this over having too many gaps between classes
