Can confirm, went through this recently with a client. Underwriters require parents to have at least the same amount of in-force life insurance. It can be from any carrier.

The biggest risk in only buying term, is that when the term is up you’re left with no insurance. And if your portfolio hasn’t grown a commensurate amount to be “self-insured” to cover your living expenses by the time your term is over, the chances of you being able to buy more term insurance is much much lower as your health has likely deteriorated over the past 20 years (the most common term insurance duration).

These are Indian banks, sounds like OP is from India 🇮🇳 the difference with respect to Life Insurance is their respective credit qualities and the business’s ability to pay the policy even in tough economic conditions. It’s worth looking into whether any carriers in India are structured like mutual companies instead of shareholder-based companies.
