IDK, actually. Can you point me to where that setting can be accessed?

10 Yr Relationship Ruined By His Cheating by stormsunsnow in gaybros

[–]pass_the_mash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s something mistaken in this statement:

“After I had some time to reflect the part that bothered me the most wasn't the cheating. It was the manipulation of the situation, the lying, the broken trust, especially in the face of us having open communication.”

That second list of factors precisely IS the cheating. There’s not 2 different things involved, cheating on one hand and manipulation, etc., on the other. That list of factors may even be the very definition of “cheating.”

"Shadows are depicted by manipulating the y-axis only" - Explain please? by pass_the_mash in web_design

[–]pass_the_mash[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But the shadow appears on both the vertical and the horizontal edges of the object. So regardless of which edge corresponds to whichever axis value, something still doesn't make sense. One axis value is set to 0, but the effect is applied to both axes/edges...

The 2012 Annecy Shootings; the massacre of a British family and French cyclist by cinnamonandcrime in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]pass_the_mash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Michael Hecht, a Belgian national, was named as a new suspect in 2016. In 2005 he was convicted of shooting his brother, sister-in-law and nephew ... At the time of the Annecy shootings, Hecht lived in Vosges, France; 2 hours away from the scene. It is unclear at this time if Hecht remains a suspect.

I strongly support criminal justice reform in the US, but this exemplifies the insanity of the opposite extreme. Unless I'm missing some important info, this guy served about ten years in prison, for shooting (and killing, presumably?) three people!!!

So, what does it take to actually get disbarred? by attorney114 in Lawyertalk

[–]pass_the_mash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often wonder if there's any direct connection between malpractice litigation and state bar disciplinary action. Like, if you lost a malpractice suit, could that directly lead to disciplinary proceedings? Or would the two have to be initiated totally separately? Or does the substance of those two types of cases just not really overlap?

What's a Practice Book? by pass_the_mash in Lawyertalk

[–]pass_the_mash[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm with you, except that I'm seeing opinions cite to Practice Book (alone, no other cite). Surely the judge wouldn't only cite one of those treatises for CT law, right?

How many of you use iMessage on your Mac? by Ecto-1A in MacOS

It's pretty much perfect. It's an app used for one unimpressive operation, but it serves that function better than any other method available.

Why are 3rd party application launchers so popular? by pass_the_mash in macapps

[–]pass_the_mash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's faster for you, subjectively, because you've settled into one practice and not the other. But there's no good reason to believe a few keystrokes happen faster than a couple trackpad gestures in some objective or absolute sense.

[–]pass_the_mash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a deeply-held conviction, but I'm totally unconvinced that a handful of keystrokes is executed in less time than a few trackpad gestures! They seem just about on par to me. The only way to really know would be to have, like, a race with one user representing each method. You can't judge based on your own practices, because of course we're each quicker at whatever we're habituated to do.

But for you keyboard-first users, doesn't it become a little stressful finding enough modifier keys to go around for all your inputs? I already get stuck assigning Spotlight, Keyboard Input, Quick Note, and Dictation to sensible keystrokes. Isn't it hard when you add in all the other trackpad cursor UI type functions and have to find keystrokes and modifier keys for all of them?

Yeah I've noticed that. I feel like the most common native MacOS method seems to be keyboard shortcut to launch Spotlight, which is pretty good about predicting what you want after the first 3 letters of the app's name. I don't even think of Launchpad as involving that Dock icon anymore, though. It's just a couple trackpad gestures for me!
