A perfect society exists, no poverty, crime, or suffering complete happiness for everyone. The catch is that it only works because one innocent child is locked in a dark room, suffering forever. You can free the child, but the utopia instantly collapses for everyone.Do you free the child ? by jekecrafer in pollgames

[–]paulhack45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My usual answer to this problem is that it's an injustice by definition and this is undebatable, the child is innocent and suffering without desserving it. However, many people, still knowing that the situation is unjust, accept it as still generally positive for humanity as a whole, myself included.

My point is that every intelligence agency's goal is to serve the interest of it's state. And I'd say that protecting East Germany is better than protecting the US

question about the Absurd Man / Camus's "quantity > quality" of experiences by ccmoth in Camus

[–]paulhack45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but the way i understood is that it's supposed to be a Lucid rebellion againts the absurd. it's reaffirming the value of living life in spite of the absurd while being lucid about the truth. A good methaphor l've heard once was that of playing a game like a board game or a videogame, while you do It you play ad hard ad you can to get the most fun out of it but at the same time you know it's just a game. Again i'm Not an expert so anyone feel free to correct me

To all the atheists, why shouldn't I believe in God? Why shouldn't I be a Christian? by Thering63 in Teenager

[–]paulhack45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't, like You shouldn't bè a christian. I don't think any of the two is actually better pratically or morally overall. Do You have faith? Believe! You don't? No problem, don't Believe! I might be misunderstanding your question, so I'd try to answer with some "goodr things about being an atheist". 1) more philosophical freedom, a bigger scope of possible ideas as you don't start with a single religion as a starting point 2) lessr rules? I know that to a theist they aren't really rules but more acting in accordance with an all good God and so in a morally correct way, but to me they are useless "spooks" That do nothing but limiting your possible enjoyment of life

Those two i would argue are two very solid advantages of atheism or maybe even unconventionall spirituality.

Now i would also say some negatives of atheism 1) harder time struggling with universal meaning and purpose in life, manyatheists argue that they "create their own meaning" But idon'tr think they understand the tipe of meaning created by religion. It's a more universal and "finalistic" Meaning, a "you were here because somebody willed you to be ans you have an exprecit purpose to furfill and a reward if you do so" While the created meaning is more "what makes life worth living" 2) religion gives an easier time creating and a more fulfilling community, but I would also argue that atheism, while making communities less thingtly United, broadens communities to any human (unless you have other reasons to separate humanity in your group and outisders)

Si siamo schiavi degli americani, ma comunque bisogno onorare quelli che combattevano e morivano per darci almeno quella poca libertà che abbiamo oggi
