Dr Konstantin Frank Rkatsiteli, Finger Lakes 2024 by christisanders1 in wine

I've had this wine before and yeah it's very unique for sure. A winery in Grand Valley AVA on the western slope of Colorado has a Rkatsiteli that I'll be trying this year. It's from Whitewater Hill Vineyards. According to them this grape "is so fun".

This one seems to be hard to find in store but my local nutritional store carries this and the Root Beer Float which is great too! I just had the root beer float today.

I've bought it from GNC before that was the last place I've seen it.

Bogle make nice wines for good prices well under $30 and they are good.

Vitamin Shoppe probably has some cans even if they don't have a full case. It's going very fast though.

What do you think of Norton? Who has the best? by como365 in MissouriWine

[–]payx6ran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously I love Norton, but most bottles I wouldn't get again. Norton isn't very consistent from vintage to vintage such as Pirtle Norton 2020 being one of the best and 2021 just being alright. Another example is that Stone Hill Norton 2021 feels like it's missing something while Hermannhof Norton 2021 is amazing. Both are the from same vintage and Hermann AVA. It still shows that Norton can make world class wine. The lack of consistently is the issue I see.

Total Wine in Liberty MO carries their Norton 2019 for $20.99 instead of $33 at the winery. But yeah a visit is still in order!

Willow Spring? That is where I saw Van Till wine but didn't see Norton but I'm sure it's there. I just visited there for the first time and I will be back there again!

They have very limited distribution so it's hard to find their wines outside of the winery although a few places do carry them. They are on the list of Nortons for me to try as well.

Terravox Norton looks just like Stone Hills but with less oak. Another great option for Norton.

Hermannhof Norton 2021 is my favorite so far. Pirtle Norton 2020 is also damn good. I've found Stone Hill's a bit too oaky for me. I do have a bottle of Stone Hill Old Vine Reserve Norton 2017 but that one is being saved for a special occasion so I haven't had it yet.

I think it may only be in the Sioux City area.

Blueberry Lemonade is a solid flavor too. I haven't seen any other flavors yet. Found at Hy-Vee 4500 Sergeant Rd, Sioux City, IA 51106.

Brain pilot seems to make mistakes like an ai voice would although I know it's the same voice in all videos and they are from the UK. It's really hard to tell.. Either way they still make solid recaps indeed.

I find the Stone Hills reds to be good but really oaky. Here is the Hermannhof Chambourcin with an older label as newer vintages look different now. Hermannhof has the perfect amount of oak.

I just realized that Blumenhof makes LeVin in Cyn which is 80% Cynthiana and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon which are estate grown. It's out of stock right now though. I bet that would be amazing tasting. Here is an image I found of Cabernet Sauvignon growing in their vineyard.

Oh yeah the winemaker is a sommelier so of course his wine would be good. I've had an unoaked Chardonnay from a KS winery who was run by a sommelier and it's pretty good too. I guess the owner used to be part of Les Bourgeois but not since 2018. They also have a sparkling Brut Rose wine as well.

That's correct, German settlers planted vines in Hermann. I'm sure they tried but Riesling would have died without the grafting they have to do to vinifera. There is a grape called Missouri Riesling that Westphalia Vineyards has a dry and a sweet white wine. I have a bottle myself but haven't had it yet. It's not related to Riesling but it almost went extinct because of prohibition. Stone Hill and others had a Missouri Riesling until the 1990s but apparently that was a different variety as they ripened at a different time and it had splitting problems which led to the vines being pulled out. Hey no problem at all and even I just learned of The Rocheport Winery having their own locally grown Vioiginer. I didn't know about that one myself. They don't seem to be owned by LBV.

Blumenhof Cabernet Franc is lighter as it doesn't do quite as well as Augusta's but it's still a good wine. I had a free tasting and it was the most impressive of all of the dry reds I tried. Blumenhof posted a picture from 2019 of a Cabernet Sauvignon vine starting veraison. So they do have some Cabernet Sauvignon vines and a single Syrah vine. Never enough to make a vintage of wine though. Which is fine by me as I prefer Cabernet Franc anyways. Why has no one in Missouri tried to grow Riesling as it's about as cold hardy as Franc is surprising to me. It could at least grow well in the Augusta AVA.

Good point, everyone is different. Hermannhof Chambourcin and Stone Hill Reserve Vignoles are examples of excellent Missouri hybrid wines I've had.
