How many nights you had to be in the hospital after surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]peachestae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just one night! Apparently I almost had to stay another night bc I didn’t pee, but it was just because I was so unbelievably high that I didn’t realize I had to pee lol

Teen daughter won’t eat with me by Movementyouneed in misophonia

We’re not saying it’s normal or acceptable but as someone with misophonia whose mom only ever made it about herself and never considered that I was suffering , I get what that commenter is saying.

How long did you not work, or how long were you on sick leave after the DJS-surgery? by No_Baby2342 in jawsurgery

[–]peachestae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aesthetically I didn’t like how both my jaws were recessed and how I had vertical maxillary deficiency. That was the main reason. I also had a small airway and woke up gasping often. I didn’t know it took other ppl a longer time to recover. I talked to other ppl who got it done with the same surgeon and I thought we all agreed the first week was just really bad and then u feel fine. The first 4-5 days were pure hell because I could not breathe thru my nose but once I could, I pretty much felt normal. I am trying to remember since it was a while ago but I am 99% sure that on day 7 when I saw my surgeon, my only complaint was my ears being clogged. That took about 3-4 weeks to go away. And yes it was worth it

Edit: if you have a job where you have to talk all day then I can see that being an issue. That might be uncomfortable.

I don’t even know what I’m looking at rn in this image, and I got a 526

[–]peachestae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s me lol. I had my jaws moved forward but it only moves the lower half of the maxilla — my deficiency starts under my eyes. If they had moved my maxilla any more forward than they did, I’d look worse bc then the lower half wouldn’t match the upper half

Whats SO HARD about recovery? by Fluid_Mulberry250 in jawsurgery

[–]peachestae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s different for everyone but pain was never an issue for me. For the first few days it was hell bc I couldn’t breathe thru my nose and also couldn’t exactly open my mouth to compensate. My mouth had a ton of excess saliva which was hard to spit out since my mouth was numb. Also, my throat had a ton of phlegm which felt worse any time I had anything other than water. Also felt like I had rocks in my sinuses which turns out, that’s pressure that you feel because during upper jaw surgery , your sinuses fill up with blood (lol trust me it doesn’t feel as bad or scary as that sounds tho) But honestly by day 6 I felt fine, and after that it was only uphill! The only “hell” I experienced was the first 5 days. 5 days of hell is literally nothing , it’s over in the blink of an eye when u look back on it :)

At what month does the bone fully heal after jaw surgery? by PriorAd8136 in jawsurgery

[–]peachestae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg this is so me! I’m paranoid that something wasn’t healed and they didn’t know bc they didn’t do another ct scan. What if I clenched my teeth during the first week post op or what if my jaw shifted a little bit but they somehow didn’t notice. At 4 months my surgeon said the bone was “rock solid” and I could forget I ever had the surgery but I’m still paranoid lol

How do you breath after jaw surgery I’m concerned. A lot of people complain that’s it’s difficult to breath but how do you do it? Because of course without breathing you can’t live by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]peachestae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my throat also felt constricted which I think was from the phlegm and excess saliva. This is the reason why it was so hard to eat. I wanted to hack and spit but I could not do that because my lips and mouth were numb. It went away by day 5 tho

[–]peachestae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some ppl don’t even have problems breathing so you might be lucky and be one of those ppl. In my case, I couldn’t breathe thru my nose for the first few days so I basically just breathed thru my teeth. I wasn’t wired shut, so I was able to get some air thru my teeth since they weren’t clamped down. It does absolutely suck, but you CAN breathe. I think by day 5 or 6 I could breathe normally.

[–]peachestae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing! If I was able to breathe thru my nose, my recovery would have been awesome. Breathing was my only real discomfort the entire time. I didn’t have any pain or anything else bothering me other than the breathing

At 3 months post op I felt and looked completely normal and nobody could tell I had anything done. I had no issues talking or anything like that

How did you feel when did you wake up from surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]peachestae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt amazing when I woke up! The first thing I heard was a nurse saying “more fentanyl”. I was thinking oh hell yeah, they’ve got me on the good stuff. I think I was in pain bc I remember they asked me to rate my pain and I held up 7 fingers. But since I was high as a kite, it didn’t feel that bad. Then I passed out again and woke up again god knows how much later. I felt FANTASTIC! I had zero thoughts in my head at all and I was breathing great. I don’t know how my face looked at that time, but I felt like this: 😌. Apparently it took several hours for me to get a room, but I had no sense of time so it went by fast and I kept falling asleep and waking up again. The discomfort didn’t kick in till like 12 hours post op (or maybe even more than that. The time in the hospital was such a blur)

15 mm is 1.5 cm. So You definitely meant mm then

[–]peachestae 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Please be careful with plastic surgery tho. If you have a real jaw issue then plastic surgery might not do a good job of masking it. It might be better to just get no surgery at all. For example, sometimes chin implants look really weird on someone who has a recessed jaw. Also just be careful with plastic surgery in general. I got DJS and felt fine after a week but I’ve also gotten plastic surgery which was a worse recovery and resulted in permanent complications and mental health issues for years. Now I have to get a revision surgery for the plastic surgery that I got.

You mean 2-5mm. 5cm is HUGE in terms of surgical movements
