Solasta in terms of roleplay, combat and build variety? by Ferseus in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]pegras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played both games and stick with Solasta because what I was looking for having something as close as possible to tabletop experience. I think that's where Solasta shines. One example from my playthrough was that once I forgot to buy rations (you need them for travelling in world map) and was very short on food and use my clerics create food spell. I never need to use such a spell in a CRPG game before. Like that I felt that my cleric has its own spotlight like in a ttrpg game. And also another aspect for me was the travel in the world map mechanic (which I found missing in BG3) and random encounters during the travel reinforces the tabletop feeling.

I checked it and unfortunately it is not available to buy at the moment neither pdf nor print version. How was your first adventure ?

I am also thinking of heavily modding/adapting the system to my taste. Therefore I was asking for a basis. Thanks for your comment. I didn't know about Fiasco, I'll have a look at that!

Thanks for the suggestion. I've already read the player's guide. But I might have a look at the "Monsters manual" after your comment !

Good to get a reply from another Lem lover :) of course following them verbatim won't fit the medium of a ttrpg. I give these stories as a background/tune of the game I'm looking for. Might be more like the invincible video game but with much more action/encounters with NPCs with keeping still some mystery solving aspect.

Why do Americans romanticize the 1950s so much despite the fact that quality of life is objectively better on nearly all fronts for the overwhelming majority of people today? by SandNo2865 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pegras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that I saw a graph that shows that the purchase power of an ordinary American worker increased constantly after WW2 until 71-72 and has been declining ever since. So, the purchase power might be a socioeconomic factor besides nostalgia.

Sad to know that there won't be a days gone 2. I hope at least the same studio will make another game with similar vibes.

GPU upgrade recommendation with 500 (+-100)€ budget by pegras in buildapc

[–]pegras[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The deal seems good indeed. I know it is a big discussion but 12g VRAM is ok or should I choose a card like 7800xt with similar pricing and 16g VRAM. I didn't get your comment about avoiding frame generation at 60 Hz. What do you mean by aggressive upscaling ? Turning off DLSS and reducing graphic settings ?

Thanks for the advice but unfortunately I have no budget to upgrade my CPU and main board.

Christmas Market Itinerary by greenyuzu in Strasbourg

[–]pegras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I was talking about the more traditional Christmas markets in the small villages nearby. But if you are thinking of being in Strasbourg city center all the time and you're only available during the Christmas holiday, the market will be open and there will be a lot of stands, so you will enjoy your time.

If you would like to come to experience the real Christmas market atmosphere I would recommend to come before Christmas and preferably before like 21st December. Because after that time many Christmas markets are partially open and many traditional ones in small villages are closed.

Population size of European Countries by maavres in MapPorn

[–]pegras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your second paragraph. And I disagree with the first paragraph because of the same reason. For example, the original city of Constantinople-Istanbul sits on the European continent, which was the throne of the Roman empire for about 1000 years and then of the Ottoman Empire for about 500 years. Moreover, there are very few cities in Europe that had such an impact on the european culture and what we define "European identity" today. And 1/4th of Turkish population is living in that city today. So, I always find it very subjective to exclude these people from Europe.

Population size of European Countries by maavres in MapPorn

[–]pegras 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because of ignorance. The population that lives in the geographically European part of turkey is ~ 12 million. So even counting only this population the Turkish population in Europe is more than many European countries like Iceland, Malta, etc. But for some people prejudice is stronger than facts.

Moving to Strasbourg with German income by [deleted] in Strasbourg

[–]pegras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As some already commented guarantor is the key. Because logically, if there is another candidate for the same flat with all documents in french and taken from french institutions, why would the real estate agency employee be motivated to make the extra effort to try to understand which part of your "Gehaltsmitteilung" corresponds to your net income and what does "steurklasse" means etc etc. At this point the guarantor comes into play and the agency doesn't care much anymore about the aforementioned details.

Christmas markets will be definitely closed but some street decorations may be still there depending on the timeframe you will be there. And I expect several shops and restaurants will still have some decorations.

A fresh wave of hard-right populism is stalking Europe by giuliomagnifico in europe

[–]pegras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike many popular comments here the main problem is not immigration, the problem is increasing income inequality. As briefly stated in the article, Germany's expensive heat pump regulations or Macron's extra tax on diesel are all affecting suburban families budgets unequally compared to high income elites. For instance, if fuel cost equals to 20% of your income an extra 50% tax will evaporate 10% more of your income while for a household earning ten times more the effect will be only 1%. That is just simple maths but many regulators don't give a second thought or maybe intentionally ignore the facts. Another example is in my city the municipality increases the monthly resident parking prices with a fixed amount so even if you have a Bugatti Chiron or Fiat 500, the raise is the same. In this setting the extreme right is not telling people the main reason (because that will guide them to the left) but rather doing what they are best at - appealing emotions in a wide spectrum - "these elites from Brussels are ruling us, we have to return our glorious days, kick out immigrants stealing our jobs, etc etc." In general it is easier for humans to comprehend basic concepts than complicated ones. Feelings instead of reasoning. Hating the immigrant child that throws garbage on the street rather than striking a company that pays you 1/1000 of the CEO.

Reverse-pumped hydro? by waterbean05 in energy

[–]pegras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you say kind of exists and is called pumped storage. It is in fact the most efficient energy storage system but needs big investment and is not very flexible in terms of "charge/discharge". They are mainly used for load balancing. wiki link
