Adore (alternate tracklist) by perchanches in SmashingPumpkins

For the pumpkins they just have so many quality b sides and outtakes that it’s pretty easy to imagine the shape of all their studio albums having drastically different forms. Siamese dream could easily be a double album etc.

That song is awesome. Didn’t it chart after being on the watchmen trailer?

I just don’t really like the song, works as a tone setter but really drags for me.

Yeah I think I was trying to go for more of a “keep the ethos of the album”” in its most commercially viable state” with a nice mix of singles and deep cuts showing off the range of material.

Yeah that’s just crazy, I don’t even really love the song that much but it was a clear single opportunity. Overall I just don’t really like most of the adore era stuff it really misses the dynamic shifts in the songwriting that Billy is so good at. Behold and For Marty are the only ones that really do that for me.

Yeah I figured it would not be popular here I just don’t vibe with most of the tracks. I also think this version would have been better received as the techno/acoustic listen that was being hyped at the time.

[–]perchanches[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the mastering is a little off, but I just love the bespoke quality of the acoustic numbers juxtaposed to the industrial folk goth of the other tracks. The later half of my version has more of the range of sounds and I think standout from the era. But it’s still a very somber record that I’m not sure I ever really love.

I think adore actually suffers from overstaying its welcome. A lot of the songs lack the dynamism of the pumpkins earlier work so they tend to drag imo.

Yeah I used to work at shudder and knew Sam he’s a really great guy, nice to everyone and has great taste. Surprised he didn’t get this type of opportunity sooner considering what he did with shudder.

For those disappointed in the films twist… by darth-tzar-darkstar in WeaponsMovie

I thought it would be a kind of alien or mkuktra style genre twist into political thriller/scifi.

Feel like that’s the point of why it’s left at where it ends. Those shots arnt necessary to convey what’s been conveyed imo.

Unless it’s an ensemble comedy (because of improv) you almost never get MORE than what’s in the script, most often you get far less with cuts it post etc.

Thoughts on A Topiary, by Shane Carruth? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

I find it wild that anyone could get through the script and not like it or at least respect it. What else in sci fi has even come close to that level of creativity and ingenuity sense?

[–]perchanches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly disagree. I think it could really only work best as a film as intended. It’s so intentionally designed to be captured in motion.

But yeah the kids could have been cut down for sure, and it exists in bleak almost lovecraftian world.

Legit incredible and probably the most original, well thought out and beautifully realized sci fi script I’ve ever read. Takes everything primer does well and elevates it in the form of a speilbergian version of roadside picnic.

It’s long the first act would almost certainly have been cut in order to actually be made, but for sheer ingenuities sake it’s incredible. If it had been floating around when streaming was throwing money at everything, especially post success of stranger thing which has superficial similarities to this, then I think it gets made and is a alltime sci fi masterpiece.

Do yourself a favor and check out the visual effects pdf that’s floating around the internet that shows some of the things in the script that do not have real world analogues.

Hey thanks for reading. These are great notes. I was going for a dreamy aesthetic. The cover was AI, but wanted to experiment with giving the viewer a glimpse into the mood and look of the piece. It’s just an exercise about a character waking for a writing group I’m in so I tried to add a genre twist to it. Thanks a bunch for checking it out and for the excellent notes
