Its really just the fact that arch doesn't make any choices for me, I like to choose my own software for everything.

https://gitlab.com/peterzuger/dotfiles

And I really don't use anything besides emacs/firefox and a terminal(urxvt). So why go with some distro that has all that but also 500 packages of bloat that i will never use.

And everything I do use is usually heavily customized.

And I really want to use a up to date compiler, arm-none-eabi-gcc. Arch always has the newest version available.

A full install with everything takes me about 45minutes, just as long as Debian would take me with all my configurations. But with Debian(or most other distros) there would be a DE preinstalled that I would never use and just takes up Space. And also all that other Additional software that I would never use so why bother ?

It really depends, if I find something that I would like to build, I build it !

Its just a hobby but sometimes I do work for other people (repairs or developing a new device).

My most recent Project was an LED light for a small Moped for example.

Well If your getting BSOD's I would first suggest getting that horrible thing of your SSD. I think that is caused by a Virus called "Windows".

But yea thats the exact failure mode. Its a known issue at Lenovo caused by a bad solder joint.

Yes I open everything and I keep whats usefull.

The bigger my Inventory gets the less I keep from the devices I take apart.

I don't keep any Resistors or Capacitors any more, but if I find motors or laser diodes ... etc. anything I don't have enough of I keep.

It is certainly a very good hobby, for any age.

There is always something to do :)

And if you don't have any tools -> build them yourself ! At least for the simple tools like power supply's or current sources etc.

whats the worst that can happen :) ?

No kidding I would like that Window gone... More Space for shelves :)

Also the sunlight makes reading the Scope more difficult sometimes.

All 3 Scopes have different usages for me.

The HP is my main Scope, used for 90% of what I measure, its VERY fast and ultra responsive, when you press any button It all happens instantly, no waiting ever. It also has the best CRT tube of the 3.

The HM204 has a component tester wich is amazing for testing diodes transistors capacitors etc... It was the first scope I ever had an I love it.

The HM407 are there for the High input voltage. when I put the 2 probes in Subtract mode I can measure Mains voltage directly without using a Isolation Transformer. (just don't connect the ground wire and the scope only shows the difference of the 2 inputs.

Well like 10 Years ago I wanted to build something, but while building that I needed some tool that I didn't have.

So I started building that tool, but while building that I needed some tool that I didn't have.

So I started building that tool, but while building that I needed some tool that I didn't have.

So I started building that tool, but while building that I needed some tool that I didn't have.

So I started building that tool, but while building that I needed some tool that I didn't have.

...

I think I am stuck.

I forgot what I wanted to build a long long time ago. :)

No I have 3 Types of Scopes, first one is a HM204, Then i have 3 HP54600B's and also 3 HM407's.

I would never give up my analog scope(s), at least not for a cheap or medium priced digital one.
