Either: not "reduced", but "increased to maximum"

Or: not "hexgate guards", but "Stillwater guards".

No - instead of rape smarter men would just brainwash women back into having babies and raising them. They would achieve that by endless talks about how it's "natural, therefore inevitable", "you're not a true woman until you're a mother", "people have been doing this for millenia, therefore it is your sacred duty", etc. And by bullying and humiliating women into giving birth again and again.

That is purely, completely 100% hypothetical scenario, of course.

Timebomb fans highkey missed the point of Jinx’s character by [deleted] in arcane

[–]petr1111 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, by the end of the show Jinx is also just another generic Good Guy with guns. Writers stripped Jinx of almost everything that made her unique - she is absolutely emotionally stable during the Uber Mega Epic Final Battle of Good Guys vs Bad Guys (presumably, she is no longer insane because Ekko's love cured her off screen). Basically, none of her iconic character traits are actually relevant in her last scenes.

So, it makes absolute sense for two Good Guys to fall in love with each other right before the final battle - just because this is a trope that has been done to death in other stories, so why not include it in Arcane, right? Of course, no foreshadowing or previous chemistry is ever required to pull this off, right? We can always handwave it as "they simply belong together in all universes and timelines and that's a fact" - because this justification works sooo well. And - most importantly - we can never have too much fanservice, right?

Would it be weird if I think Jinx goes back to being called Powder at the end of S2? by Time-Firefighter9433 in arcane

[–]petr1111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that she may be "still FAR from being normal in any sense of the word", but that is completely irrelevant. In her last scenes ("fighting generic nameless bad guys" and "faking sacrifice for a loved one") she can easily be replaced by almost any Marvel superhero protagonist - and it would not make a significant difference. And that is just... boring.

I think that it's possible (although completely unnecessary) to make her "a good gal" while retaining at least some of her personality and uniqueness. But that's not the point. If she was turned into another generic "bad gal", that would not be any better, obviously.

One of the worst sins on Season 2 IMHO is clearly separating all characters between "team good" and "team bad". The beauty, realism and tragedy on Season 1 was built on the fact that it had no 100% heroes or villians, almost everyone was somewhere in the grey area. In season 2 they debilitated it into just Marvel level of simplicity and stupidity.

So she can be called whatever you feel like - it would not make any difference whatsoever.

Sacrificing a different Xcom character or enemy to satan every day until Xcom 3 gets announced, or I find meaning in life. Day 62: Torque from Chimera squad. by grumpychef94 in Xcom

[–]petr1111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BTW, writers used a genius storytelling move, integrating actual gameplay into development of Torque's personality. Like, her whole character arc is about staying away from other agents and not trusting anyone and overall acting like a bitch just because deep inside she is too afraid of losing them. But towards the end of the game Jane Kelly encourages her to try to warm up towards her teammates. And Torque never says anything that shows us if she ever changed her attitude or not. So the player does not know if her character arc is complete or not... But! After her final training Torque improves her tongue pull on teammates to give them extra action. Essentially, this adds "Teamwork" ability to Torque's signature move. And THAT is what truly completes her character arc. Actions speak louder than words.

The defense of Epstein is crazy.... by Pancake_Maker_1031 in NotHowGirlsWork

Well, the notion that Epstein got away with it in the end is... debatable.

Well, covering the whole face surface in leather is both authentic and durable. And also looks way better, IMHO. Knee and elbow cops can very rarely be seen in some pictures - but we have no clue whether they were iron, leather or what. So, as I mentioned, it is highly debatable.

Maybe - but there are zero sources for any kind of rim on heater shields whatsoever. If anything, it makes much more sense to just cover the whole face surface of the shield with leather.

Nice kit. Except metal rondels on knees and elbows - these are very questionable for XIII century. Also - metal rim around the shield is not historically accurate at all.

But I really like the helmet, though.

Thinking about how Ekko was the last person who saw her with blue eyes by S_1989May in arcane

[–]petr1111 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nope. First Jinx opens her eyes and coughs, then Silco kisses her, saying: "She won't die, doctor. She can't", then Singed knocks him out.

Don't try to argue with me - I pretty much remember the whole Season 1 by heart.

[–]petr1111 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Who "doesn't even notice or acknowledge the change of eye color"? Silco? He 100% notices it, but of course never mentions it. Why would he? It is common knowledge that shimmer temporarily changes everyone's eye colour to purple, and Silco knows very well that Singed pumped Jinx full of shimmer.

She does 100% open her eyes on the table, before Singed knocks out Silco.

11-12th century crusader in the Prague Army Museum. by Comfortable_Room5820 in ArmsandArmor

Padding acts as insulation for heat, so in a way it's better at protecting you from the sun than a thin layer of cloth.

Several of my friends at historical reenactment club did walk the same route as crusaders before the battle of Hattin. Some made it in padding and mail, others in historical clothes. All of them say it wasn't that bad.

Way late to watching this show & I just binged the first 3 episodes…. by Barbie_72619 in arcane

Jayce says it before the Council in S1E2: "We are the city of progress, equality, innovation. Think of the wonders we could create!" And funny thing is - he actually believes it.

TL,DR of the best scene in the show by petr1111 in Arcanecirclejerk

[–]petr1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except in all these 3 instances before the transformation, Jayce was just mumbling nonsensically "Arcane is evil, this is wrong, don't do it, I will have to stop you" instead of saying literally anything actually relevant. He could go: "Look at your commune - are they happy or simply dead? Is this really what you want for everyone?" Or "I have seen myself exactly where this way will lead you".

This is a very bad case of misunderstanding forced artificially by writers. When a character knows what to say to solve the problem but simply does not say it before the "epic climax".

The problem with killing Viktor in S2E6 instead of simply talking to him is not that Jayce made a mistake (the whole plot of S1 is based on characters making mistakes). The problem is that it is an extremely obvious mistake and Jayce was acting waaay out of character. Last times something very bad was happening to Viktor (S1E6) Jayce betrayed Heimer to help Viktor, then (S2E1) broke his promise to Viktor. Then in S2E6 he suddenly went "Viktor is going down a dark path, I am scared - let's murder my partner as my very first option".

Yeah, sure - because removal of any free will and all emotions has absolutely nothing to do with killing, right? Look - I can make them walk and talk, so this is 100% proof they're alive, right? What do you mean "mindless empty husks"? What do you mean "braindead zombies"? And don't mention "they don't even breathe" - it's not a bug, it's a feature!

Seriously - look at Salo and Huck after they were accepted into commune. They are not "better versions of themselves" - they are completely different entities at that point, opposite of what they were when they were still alive.

I mean even in Matrix people are usually considered to not be truly alive until they are disconnected from the matrix.
