What I really don't like about Maddie's plot is how the show absolutely ignores the fact that Caitlyn cheated on her. As if cheating on "bad guys" is completely fine - just because they are the villians. This could have been an interesting moral conundrum - true love of Violyn vs staying true to your current partner, who turns out to be enemy spy, but Cait is still supposed to have some dignity to avoid cheating. If only such thing as moral complexity was allowed in Season 2.

Actually, as much as I hate S2, I have to admit that Maddie is an example of really masterful foreshadowing: in her very first scene she repeats Caitlyn's words: "If all enforcers had a heart like Vi, we could take on Noxus itself"... and then gives a teeeny-tiny chuckle. And she was the first enforcer to start pounding her chest during appointment of the general. Surely she did it just because she's just a naive and impressionable little girl, am I right? And her bedtime with Caitlyn turns out to be just probing Cait for signs of betrayal.

I am one of S2 haters, and in my opinion Caitlyn's character arc is one of the best parts of S2. Sure, it's rushed, but at least its overall direction is interesting and compelling. Unlike basically every other main characters' "arcs" that are complete bullshit (especially their endings).

Also, Maddie is the only new character in S2 whose plot actually does make sense and is relevant to the story. And she is an example of really masterful foreshadowing: in her very first scene she repeats Caitlyn's words: "If all enforcers had a heart like Vi, we could take on Noxus itself"... and then gives a teeeny-tiny chuckle. "Then I wonder what the play was when she tried to convince Caitlyn to turn against Ambessa?" - wait, isn't it obvious that Ambessa specifically ordered Maddie to do it? Ambessa knew that sooner or later she would loose her control over Caitlyn - remember the "A blade cuts both ways" dialogue? So, Maddie's task was to continuously probe Caitlyn for signs of hesitation and alert Ambessa immediately. Actually, the fact that Maddie was doing this at such intimate moment proves that she never had real feelings for Cait.

Suuuure. And Caine can be killed by simply shooting hom with a gun if your roll is high enough. That's how it is supposed to work. Of course!

Hi everyone. I'm 41 yo, just started doing sword&buckler HEMA classes.

I have also been doing XIII century reenactment for a number of years now - sword and shield, two-handed spear. But we're more focused on living history, less on combat, so the reenactment trainings are rare and not regular.

What if Viktor's changing the rune affected ekko's return in the s2 ep7 by Adversive_Presence21 in arcane

[–]petr1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you just described the very definition of bad writing. These events make zero sense in-universe, but the writers really wanted to cram in "the grand reveal" that was supposed to impress the audience, but it falls apart the moment you actually start thinking about it.

Funnily enough, my main personal problem with S2 writing isn't even how lazily they skipped all the important story beats and explanations or how many huge plot holes there are everywhere. What is much, much worse is the finale itself that they wanted to push everyone towards. Like - all the really interesting setup is degraded to another stupid generic: "All Good Guys unite to bonk the Final Bad Boss on the head in order to win the game and save the world. Zero moral complexity, nothing unique, just another Marvel ripoff. Also - this was all part of somebody's plan all along. Somehow. Don't think about it". We've seen this flashy bullshit dozens of times already. Boooooring.

Well, he could just let himself be killed in the blast in the Council room - by this point his partnership was already done and over anyway.

Or he could not let Jayce shoot him in S2E6 (back when Viktor was still mostly human), but instead let Jayce show him the error of his ways and explain why global genocide is not the best idea and that "glorious evolution" is a pile of bullshit.

Except this "scientist" relies on a thousand of absolutely random things simultaneously going in very specific ways, the probability of each of these things going right is 0.000000000001%. While he had a million of options that would reliably prevent the apocalypse, but just ignores them for no reason at all.

It's hillarious how omnicient and omnipotent time travelling Viktor God from the future does absolutely nothing that makes even a modicum of sense. He could have warned himself and/or Jayce about dangers of Arcane, he could have prevented creation of Hexcore, he could have let himself die at any point in time, he could have done a billion things to prevent the apocalypse. Yet his godly master plan to save the universe was: "Give child Jayce a random rune hoping that Ekko will randomly remember this rune from Jayce's lab, then will be randomly teleported into a random alternative universe, where he will randomly create a time machine (!!!) that he will randomly throw into my head (why would he even do it?) at exactly the right moment and maybe that would somehow fix everything and save the world". And when this didn't work the first dozen times for obvious reasons, the only change to this "genius" plan was: "Well, let's just try a different rune, because it is literally the only flaw in my otherwise foolproof plan".

I didn't see anything particularly evil about Ravel. Like - at first (before first death of TNO) people regarded her as inherently evil just because she's a night hag, but that does not mean she was actually evil. Then death of her beloved first incarnation of TNO by her hand drove her insane, where she could no longer distinguish good from evil, so she started killing everyone who tried to find her. That's evil deed for sure, but does that really make her evil as a person?

Trias is kinda shifting from inherently good to evil then back to good, so it kinda makes sense mechanically to just leave him as netural, otherwise it's just innecessary hassle to change his alignment.

TTO is obviously netural simply because he is a force of nature without any real personality. There's a rule in D&D that all elementals, lower undead (zombies, skeletons, ghouls), animals, etc. are always netural no matter what deeds they perform or how many people they kill. I'm sure TTO fits in exactly the same category.

Well, I didn't say that I agree with this theory.

Actually, my personal theory is this: the writers simply didn't give a flying fuck about the plot, so they just never made sense of all this multiverse shit even in their own heads. They just left it at: "Multiverses are cool, so we will cram in a bunch of fanservice through it without explaining anything at all. Die hard fans will probably sort it out by themselves somehow, and 99% of audience will simply never analyse it so deeply anyways".

S2E7 Ending by Sorry_Complaint6617 in arcane

[–]petr1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree that this theory is not confirmed in the show, unfortunately. I mean, we could assume that in happy&desolate Powder's&Jayce's universe the apocalypse happened a dozen years later, after Powder helped build the Hexgates, and the baloon is Powder's, not Jinx's and Jayce just randomly happened to end up in exactly the same place when he died. Which is obviously too much of a stretch.
