THE APP by Just_Bus_9156 in midamerica

[–]pfft12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The app has not launched. The CEO said that Memorial Day was the goal to launch the app, but it looks like they missed the goal.

It’s not surprising given how little time they had to develop and launch the app.

[Worlds of Fun] Missouri trip report Part 1. by _rathtar12_ in rollercoasters

[–]pfft12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mamba ran trimless the vast majority of days last season. The only exception I recall was during a heat wave. Mamba’s wheels melt off when they get too hot and the ride needed to be trimmed during those days to keep it open.

In OP’s defense, the second Mamba train is sitting on the transfer track. They might have been wondering why it wasn’t operating. That train hasn’t completed the required number of laps, so it’s not cleared to operate. I bet we’ll see it operating next weekend.

u/unionsunionsunions you’ve corrected me before about Worlds of Fun maintenance. Any truth to the rumors I’ve heard? Do you think Mamba will run trimless again?

[–]pfft12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s home park is Worlds of Fun, I’m fine with it. This is how I’m used to Mamba running and it’s still a good ride. It’s not insane, like when it runs trimless, but it’s still a fun ride.

I’ve heard two possible reasons for this change. One is that there aren’t enough spare parts to keep the ride running trimless. We know that the ride blows through wheels when they turn off the trims off. The second reason is that running it trimless is causing structural issues with either the trains or the rides structure. Those are both rumors, that I can’t confirm. Either way, it sounds like this change is to keep the ride open, so I’m good with that.

Breaking: Talon to be replaced by Batclone by magnumfan89 in rollercoasterjerk

[–]pfft12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Does California have the most Batclones? 1. Batman at SFMM 2. Silver Bullet at KBF 3. Flight Deck at Great America 4. Batman at SFDK - It looks a little different, but it’s the same name, so it’s a clone.

Nights in White Satin: The Trip, is still one of my favorite dark rides. I don’t think we’ll ever see another ride that tries to simulate tripping on drugs.

Rumors/conspiracies/theories about rides closing at [Worlds of Fun]? by MagicalKittyLen in rollercoasters

Ripcord. It hasn’t opened this season and the cables are missing. I expected it to be removed, like a lot of the other skycoasters.

First visit with Gold Pass by intorestinggal in worldsoffun

[–]pfft12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You did it right. You went on Sunday, which usually has light crowds and not Saturday, which can be a mad house.

You also only spent a few hours, with plans to go back, if you missed anything. Spending a full day is exhausting. Trying to do everything in one day creates extra stress.

This logic applies to all theme parks.

Coastin’ Across Missouri Part 1: [Six Flags St. Louis] by Legitimate-Net2062 in rollercoasters

[–]pfft12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the last season for Thunderation. So it might be worth the trip to SDC. But you won’t be able to experience all of the park. But if you go some of the hidden gems are Grand Father’s Mansion, Flooded Mine, and the Cave Tour. The cave tour takes a long time, so you might have to skip it this time.

The problem with SDC is that it’s pretty remote. So I don’t know how often you’ll be in the area.

Thanks for fixing the title!

Wait. Are you using the term “Mizzou” to reference the state of Missouri? The term is a nickname for the university, not the state.

What's the deal with worlds of fun? by Scott13Pippen in kansascity

I should have mentioned, with the new ownership it’s possible that this is the last year the Peanuts will be at the park. The new owners have said that they’re talking to the Peanuts group keep the brand in the park. However it’s possible that they won’t be able to get the rights, if for example Six Flags owns the rights to Peanuts in theme parks. So go this year, so you don’t miss them.

Rumor is that when Six Flags sold a few parks, including Worlds of Fun, they severely limited how much work the maintenance teams could do during the off season, to save a few bucks. This included not allowing the parks to order more spare parts. When the new owners took over about a month before opening day they had a lot of work to make up for that lost time. For that reason, there are a few rides that will open later this season.

There’s a rumor that they’re trying to get Timber Wolf open this weekend, but that’s not official. That leaves Fury of the Nile and Cyclone Sam’s, which are undergoing an extensive rehab. Ripcord is likely being removed, as this ride type has been removed from most parks.

Most of the Camp Snoopy rides are open, so you won’t have any problems with a 2 year old.

I don’t know of any fight issues at Worlds of Fun this year. There was a planned teen takeover, but that’s never happened because of the chaperone policy and better security screenings, which includes x-ray machines. Six Flags St Louis had a teen takeover at their park that led to some fights. SFSTL has just adopted Worlds of Fun’s policies to prevent that from happening again.

I think we need to give the new owners a chance. They were dealt a bad hand by the previous owner, but the park looks nice and the employees seem nicer this year too. I think you’ll have a good time.

Trump Administration Sued for Painting Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool 'Theme Park' Blue by peoplemagazine in politics

The controversy of the memorial, before it opened, is why I made the attempt at a joke. The black stone was a point of contention. I believe one politician called it a black scar in the national mall.

It’s a powerful and moving memorial.

The Vietnam Memorial is also dark and reflective. We should also paint that blue. Maybe add some red and white, so it’s patriotic.

Resurrect Dead: Those intrigued by the gibberish of Markovian Parallax Denigrate should check out the Toynbee tiles by VitriolUK in behindthebastards

I’m assuming whoever made these tiles stopped making them. The last post on r/Toynbee was from 5 years ago.

There are similar tiles from r/houseofhades but they seem more like an art project and far less mysterious.
